Honestly, the guy that came to our home seemed timid and didn't really know how to answer my questions about radon and where we would need to put a mitigation system, etc. The bottom line is he was just there to give us the test box. After we mailed off our test box we didn't get our test results for 10 days. I was told the processing should only take 3 business days. After almost 2 weeks with no results I had to call the company myself to get the information. The results were positive for radon (from the lab) however no one from the company ever called me after that to explain the results or discuss installation of a system so I'm cutting my losses now and calling someone else who is more knowledgeable and RESPONSIVE!

I contacted Mr Clemons at EBI after learning of the dangerous health risks of living with Radon. He got me in contact with a measuring company (Marty Karl from All Pro home inspections). In IL you cannot have the same person mitigate and test. That would be a conflict of interest. After the initial reading came back 7.7, I re-contacted Mr. Clemons at EBI for a mitigation system. My interaction with Richard was wonderful. He sent over the contracts/warranties/guarantees via email, which I could sign via another website, which I very much appreciated. When installation day came, he came on time, worked tirelessly all day, and showed me how the system worked. As of this morning my post mitigation test shows a 1.5. Overall a pretty good experience.

I selected Extraordinaire Building Inspectors from the selections on Angie's List, called and left a message. The service representative returned my call within 45 minutes, took my information, and passed to their technician. The technician, Mr. Richard Clemons, called within 2 hours and accomplished an estimate over the phone based upon my description of the property and radon test results. We scheduled the mitigation appointment for the following Saturday, 8 AM - 5 PM. Richard showed up on time, surveyed the property with me, described how he would install the system, listen carefully to my desires, answered all my questions, and then got to work. He completed the task on time. The workmanship was excellent making the system look like it was installed as the home was built! Richard cleaned up the work site when done so well, you couldn't tell he had even been there. I delayed getting the propery retested due to the holidays. The retest showed that the radon mitigation system dropped by radon levels from 13.4 pCi/L to only 0.7, well below the recommended maximum of 4.0.

I initially heard about the bad health risks associated with Radon over the last year. It came as a public service announcement in which the announcer suggests having your basement tested for Radon exposure. This naturally occurring odorless gas is the second leading cause of lung cancer. Well, my son, who is 19, has spent a considerable amount of time in our basement where we keep our entertainment center and desktop computer for homework. I never thought about Radon exposure in the past,...but when you're bombarded with PSA's about the dangers of Radon and the possibility of all homes required to be tested if on the market I started taking notice. I purchased testing containers ordered online from reputable Radon testing companies to find out the level of exposure in the basement and the main level. I ran two tests...a three day test and a ninety day test. A combination of the two tests showed significant levels of Radon....at 6.4 in the basement...and 3.8 upstairs...EPA recommends mitigation if over 4.0 and the WHO (world health organization) recommends mitigation at 2.7 or above. Time to take action....this Radon stuff is to be taken seriously folks. Long story short I found Extraordinaire Building Inspectors in a Angie's List search. Extraordinaire had a fine background with other Angie's list members who have used their service. I called and talked to Richard Clemons, the manager and inspector for EBI. He came out at the scheduled time slot for consultation, did a thorough inspection of my basement and quoted me a price which I thought was too high...but when shopping around and finding the amount of work to be performed in reducing the Radon, not to just acceptable levels, but to reduce it as much as 90-percent was a tall order. Some companies thought the job too big with the crawlspace added into it. Richard's price was very fair for the work required for full mitigation, and after three days of 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. the work was completed (and this man worked tirelessly). This was no ordinary mitigation, but a finished basement and crawlspace mitigation...sort of like two basement mitigations. There was crawlspace sealing, running pipes with fans, and a gauge for pressure. Richard was professional, courteous and completely thorough in his work. And ON TIME...one of my pet peeves. He told me what to expect in the beginning...and at the end of the process showed me the completed job and explained everything. His professionalism was outstanding. I completed a new Radon test after Richard's work and Radon levels were reduced by 90-percent plus...from 6.5 to 0.7. FANTASTIC. Mitigation was a very big job but Richard was up to the task and I highly recommend testing your basement and if you decide to mitigate the Radon from you're home, please call EBI and talk to Richard...very fair, professional and on time.

I was very pleased with the work that Richard did. The buyers of a house I was selling had a radon test done that showed a high level of radon in the house. Mister Clemons was able to come to install a mitigation system quickly. He worked all day on a Saturday to install the system in the basement and a vent outside. He returned on October 17 to do a two day retest of the radon level. He sent me a copy of the report. The radon level had gone down considerably due to his work. One of the things I particularly liked about Mister Clemons, is that he emailed me the pertinent documents and I was able to sign them electronically. He was easy to reach throughout the process and answered all my questions.

It went very well. He was able to give me a price quote based on information provided over the phone and kept to that cost. He arrived at exactly the time agreed upon. It took the entire day to install since he had to drill into the floor and foundation to set up the system. He cleaned up so that you wouldn't have know he was there. Richard was very professionl both on the phone and in person. I am very satisfied with his services and would hire him again without reservation and I would recommend him to anyone who asked me about mitigation services.

After much research for a qualified and licensed contractor, we found Extraordinaire Building Inspectors. After corresponding by email, Mr. Clemons arrived punctually to look at our property. He described exactly how he would install a mitigation system and answered all of our questions. Before the day was over he had emailed an estimate of the cost. On the designated day for the work to be performed, Mr. Clemons arrived right on time, provided ear plugs to reduce the noise that would be generated by drilling through concrete, and laid down plastic so that he would not track anything on our carpets from outside since he had to go back and forth in order to complete the project. Mr. Clemons was courteous and professional at all times and insured that we knew how the system worked and what to do in the unlikely case that a problem develops. We have since retested our two floors and both are well under the recommended EPA limit. We couldn't be more satisfied with our experience with the company we chose and would not hesitate to recommend it to others for a radon mitigation system installation.
