Despite cancelling our service a year ago, Archway started charging us erroneously in April of this year for a property we no longer own or reside in. While the quality of the lawn service may be okay, their business practices and account management is abysmal.

My first call was never returned to set up an appointment. Should have been my first clue. A second call was made and they put me on the schedule two weeks later. When they aerated the lawn they tore up my lawn and my neighbors lawn as well. Large ruts were left in several locations and nothing was said or done about it. I had to call them about the damage to the lawn. The worst part was I had to explain to my neighbor that I uses a lousy company who damaged their lawn and I would take care of the repair. I called Archway and they didn't return my call for a week. Finally I got in touch with Bob who is the owner and he explained his son works for him doing core aeration. I sent pictures of the damage and he said he would have his son come by and fix the damage next week. One 2 weeks goes by... No Son. Called back and asked for a date and time I can expect. We arranged for a Friday afternoon. Friday goes by and nobody called or came by. NOT professional. I had to call them back and got a ******** excuse and now they are back peddling about even fixing the damage done to my neighbors or my lawn. I asked for a refund of money and Bob agreed to refund my money on a Friday October 26th and he said a check would be sent on Monday. Saturday November 3rd no check has been received, I had to fix my neighbors yard and am out additional $50. Horrible customer service. DO NOT use this company they do not stand behind their work.

These people are the worst in the industry. They never answer their phones or return emails then they show up and do work that was never asked for or canceled and then they try to bill you for it anyway. I am taking them to small claims court and will never use them again. They bait-and-switch with Promises of low aeration prices then jack up the prices on everything else.

I scheduled an aeration for 10/17/17. I would not be home at the time and was told I could leave a check under the doormat. I called on 10/16/17 and left a message hoping to be able to put it on my credit card and I also had a few other questions. I never received a call back. I ended up leaving a check taped to the door. The aeration was done on the 17th but was of very poor quality. Many areas looked like they weren't even touched and the areas that were had very small plugs. It had rained a decent amount recently and I also water often so there was no reason for the plugs to be so small. I called that evening to voice my disappointment but only received voicemail. Due to getting no response from the previous message I left I was a bit concerned. I did call again later that evening and once again received voicemail. I explained that I would be putting a stop payment on the check. I also emailed the owner to have something in writing. I did get a response via email from the owner the next day. I didn't feel like I was threatening in any way but the owner thought differently. It was probably somewhat my fault for not giving the company more time to fix the problem before stopping payment and posting a bad review. However when there is a lack of communication previously you lose the benefit of the doubt. Having someone to answer the phone or at least returning calls in a timely manner would go a long way towards good customer service.

I have used Archway for aeration for several years now. They have done a good job each year. I have no complaints with their services, each time they aerated properly. The only variation from year to year was the size of the cores and that really depends on how moist the soil is. If it has rained you get good plugs. If it has been dry you must water before they aerate, simple.

Originally scheduled for Wednesday but it rained all day so they came the following day. I had to leave a check since I could not be home during the service. They did aerate the yard seed and fertilize although there were parts of the yard where no seed or fertilizer could be seen and they also broke a ceramic hose holder we had under a hose bib. I wasn't really upset that the hose holder was broken because it wasn't expensive and I figured we could work it out but what made me mad was that I called and left a message and they never called me back.

My appointment was made on the telephone with BJ Brownlee and scheduled for the morning of September 19, 2015, and they showed up the morning they were supposed to.  I first knew they were there from the aerator equipment noise.  The two individuals who performed the work were in and gone in approximately one hour.

Subsequent to their visit, I personally over-seeded a relatively small patch of grass with my grass seed because it is a troublesome spot and it didn't appear to have much seed from Archway.  Per the company's instruction, I watered the seed every day for the first two weeks and every third day thereafter (virtually tripling the cost of my water bill - expected).

Since then, my front yard (particularly) looks worse than it has in three years; the backyard is, thankfully, unchanged.  The only area on my property that has any new grass growing is the small patch in the back yard that I over-seeded.  Additionally, the front yard has brown / has dead spots, only two or three small green areas and not one new blade of grass on any of the bare spots.

In summary, Archway did aerate my lawn as evidenced by visible plugs.  However, I do not believe they applied any grass seed or fertilizer!  Since I have performed these tasks in the past, I know what results to expect from this type of work.

I left voice mail messages for Mr. Brownlee on October 12 and October 13, receiving a return call on October 14.  I explained the situation to him at that time, requesting that he come by my home and look at the yard to address my concerns.  He immediately responded that when his company "performs the $139.00 service, we only apply 20 lbs. of seed, enough to build-up some bare spots".  When I agreed to purchase the service from his company, this grass-seed amount was never  mentioned, as I stated to him.  Further, his advertisement in Valpak (from which I contacted his company and which I have it in front of me at this time) states no such limits.  My lawn is approximately 6,800 square feet according to online sources.  Mr. Brownlee agreed to look at my yard the next day, 10/16/2015 and either speak to me in person or by telephone. As of this date (10/22/2015), I have heard nothing from him.  I expect Archway to refund to me the $139.00 which I paid on the day the work was performed.

My neighbors used Archway last year to aerate their lawn, and I noticed the good soil plugs on one of my regular walks around the neighborhood.  So this year I decided to use them too.  Easy to schedule; the 2 guys were on time and very polite when I asked them to be sure not to overlook a smaller patch of grass by the driveway (that other lawn services often overlook).  They had 2 aerators and it took 10 minutes to do the front and back.  They did a great job (many plugs throughout lawn, all 1-2 inches in length).   I will definitely use them again the next time I need to aerate.

My neighbor used them and was pleased with their work and I was pleased after seeing the quality of work they did at the neighbors. I contacted them especially because their price for co-aeration is about half of what my lawn care company would have charged, in fact it is less than half of another company I used previously. The didn’t come at the scheduled time only because it was raining cats and dogs, so they rescheduled. With the exception of that, weather related problem, they showed up at the time they said and did what they said they were going to do and I am happy with it. The men that were working for them seemed all purpose driven, they didn’t seem to dribble around and they did a thorough job.

Last year I hired Archway and they did a decent job. This year I thought it was sloppy. You call and make an appt. They want their money up front. If a check isn't under the mat they won't do the job. I had to step out for an hour and didn't think, because of the rain, that they would be by during that day. They showed up but because I didn't have a check under the mat I had to reschedule. My complaint is -- you get what you pay for. They have two workers and make one pass in one direction and withing 20 minutes they're done. I used to have an individual who spent over two hours doing my yard with a criss-cross pattern. I was disappointed with the results this year. My property lines weren't done and it's hard to see any cores in other parts of the lawn. I didn't appreciate them leaving a sign in the middle of my front lawn to promote their business. They could've asked me if it was ok to put their sign up on my lawn.
