My initial meeting with Steve (the owner) went very well. I really felt he had a vast knowledge when it came to remodeling. He had some very good ideas on how to finish my basement. Unfortunately, every phase of the project was plagued with problems. Most of them they took care of, but some they did not even after I asked about them. Some of the issues I had were:
Framing: Some walls were not secure, they went back to secure them only after I showed them. As they framed around my fiberglass shower, they managed to damage it. It was fixed at their expense. I would have preferred they were more careful.
Electrical: They wired my basement with 12AWG, the problem was they connected the 12AWG line to an existing light fixture that was running a 14AWG line . They were not going to do anything about it until I supplied them with the correct wire so it would all run off 12AWG.
Drywall: They left numerous roller (trail) marks on the walls as they back rolled the primer. They didn’t properly roll out the primer and it left ridges in it from the edge of the roller. Some of these they fixed, others they did not even though I pointed them out.
Painting: Despite what they told me, there was not 2 coats of paint applied to the walls. I showed them where white primer was showing through and the paint was thin. I had to go back and repaint several walls myself just so they looked right. I have several places where the paint has excessive picture framing. They also tried to touch up the ceiling in one area. It appears as if they used a different type of roller than what was originally used because there is a different texture that can be seen in these touch up areas.
Plumbing: They reversed the hot/cold lines coming out of the wall for the sink (not standard). The shower head leaked out the wall. This was discovered after the project was finished. It took them 2 visits to finally get it corrected. The toilet leak where it attaches to the floor. It wasn’t properly secured to the floor and rocked. Because of this, it leaked and damaged my floor. They came back to shim the toilet so it didn’t rock, but didn’t do anything about my damaged floor.
I tried repeatedly for over a month to get them to come back and fix the floor that the leaking toilet caused from being improperly installed After about 6 weeks of trying, I finally, was able to get one of their workers (James) to come and do something about it. After waiting around all evening for him he never showed up. The next day I contacted them and all I got was a text message with an apology. I really expected them to reach out to me and try to rectify the situation, especially since I was still under a warranty with them. Instead I was left feeling like they didn’t care. This was very disappointing.
I really had high hopes that this company would exceed my expectations based on all the reviews I read, but they fell a little short. The project turned out ok, but there were too many mistakes made along the way. I think if there was more attention paid to the details and Steve had a greater presence on the jobsite overseeing construction and his workers, things would have been much better.

We did not go with Remodeling Source but they are our list for future projects. I would recommend them to anyone
First, we met the owner in Home Depot where he offered some great suggestions as I was getting ready to run our electrical. Found out he had a remodeling company, read some reviews here and decided to have them come out to do an estimate. I had done a lot of the work myself, hired another crew to help with the framing but wasn't happy with how the soffits were built. Steve came in, recognized right away what was wrong and was able to make recommendations to fix and the framing looked great. They also fixed some other framing issues from the first crew and did a great job fire blocking.
They did a good job running the electrical and getting things prepared for the rough inspection. Inspection went well, even though not all the electrical work had been done (missing fixture, old wire not pulled) and all was good heading into the home stretch for drywall. And this is where the problems started.
During the estimate process, it was made clear that there were multiple crews that specialized in drywalling as we would "not want them to do it as they are slower and not as good as the drywall crews", which makes sense, drywall is an art. However, we did not get a drywall crew, it was the same crew that did the framing, the fire blocking, the electrical, it seems the other crews were working other jobs. I really liked the team working on the house as they were always on time, very friendly and worked very hard. As they said, they don't do drywall very often as it's difficult and not as good as the crews. It took them much longer than they expected to complete the job and although they tried hard, it definitely was not the best drywall job. Additionally, it didn't seem to matter how many times my wife asked to make sure that they remembered to cut the openings for the drain clean outs and spigot valves, they didn't cut them out always saying we know where they are and we'll get them done. So now everything is sealed up and we had no idea where the openings were.
Here's where the lack of professionalism comes into play. After the drywall was completed they scheduled the prime and ceiling paint crew. I asked when they were coming out to inspect the drywall work but was told that they weren't planning on coming out for that. So in comes the paint crew and done in one day. Next day we receive the invoice for the services that were completed. All without anyone coming to look at the work, ensure that it was done to the level expected. I had to put together a list of issues for them to come look at. When Steve finally came to inspect the job, he started out with an attitude that we were an annoyance until he started looking at the work that was done. He started to realize that it wasn't done well and when he kept asking why it was done "that way", the gentleman that had done most of the work kept saying, "this isn't what we do". Steve marked up the walls and ceiling (now painted) to mark what needed to be corrected?..by the same guy that did the original work. Some of the items were fixed, others weren't and some that were, I wish they had just left alone. Again, I received an invoice and no one came by to inspect the work. At this point I was very frustrated and realized that this was as good as it was going to get.
- We paid for the ceiling to be painted, but after the large number of fixes required, we had to repaint the ceiling again, money wasted.
- We paid for an outlet that wasn't installed, so they installed it?by running the wire in the half inch gap at the bottom of the drywall, instead of cutting the drywall between the two outlets and running it thru, so I had to re-do that work.
- Had to cut the openings for puck lights in archways where bare wires had been left behind finished drywall
- Had to fix multiple places on the walls that were "finished"
Overall this company has a lot of potential and the crew works very hard, is always on time and some of the best folks we have ever had come in to work on our house, and we have had a lot of crews for different jobs. Unfortunately they have either taken on too many jobs or it wasn't enough work/money to warrant full attention. That may be the case for them, but it's my home and I had put in months of time and effort on the basement to do it right, if it hadn't been for the good reviews, I probably wouldn't have hired this company. I'm not sorry I did, they did a good job on the framing and most of the electrical and it sped up the job. It's just unfortunate that the final part of the job, that is so critical for appearance was an after thought. It would have taken very little time for Steve to have stopped by every few days to correct things he saw not being done correctly or even to do a final inspection without asking.
If you choose this company, just make sure that you get it documented about what is expected for the inspections, who is doing what work and the expectations on what is meant when the job is "done". Learn from my lessons and things will probably go very well and you will be happy to work with this company. Don't and most likely you will end up writing a review similar to this.
Overall they did a great job and the ceilings look awesome
