I was not at the house as it is empty and he spent 2 hours total tearing out the carpet and tacks. He did not remove two areas that was supposed to have also been done. He did not haul off the old carpet nor did he remove the trim on the floor. He was going to glue the edges in. He came by and gave my the bill before I even saw the finished job. He did no prep work at all and called to say that there were depressions under the air vents, but he did not fix them. His excuse was that he is not a carpenter. Yet he cut a square piece of board to "fix" the under cabinet depression. The "fix" was not level and still too deep. He used a junk piece of board that he has on hand to put in the depression. The board was 1/4" thick or less and the depression was at least 1/2" deep. He left a lot of nails poking up through the floor yet charged for their removal. When he came to give me the bill, I asked a friend to get it from him as he made me uncomfortable. He was rather shady from the start. My friend asked him some questions about the job and Kirby Holt would not answer anything and started walking off while my friend was talking to him. Kirby told him to have me call if I wasn't happy with the bill. The bill was $174.00 for 2 hours of work. The carpet that was pulled could have been done in an hour with 2 people. He left all the carpet, padding and tack and nail boards sitting on the drive under the carport. The next day after I got the bill, he started calling over and over. He would either hang up without leaving a message or jest say "Hello?" and then hang up. in 2 out of 15 plus calls, he did say "This is Kirby." I just wasn't there to pick up. He would also come to my house without asking, at least twice a day. He was here at 8am this morning. I was alone and his actions make me feel really uncomfortable. The creep factor has been really high and I did not want to talk to him at all. I have asked my friend to talk to him for me and he will. It has only been 4 days since he did this job and has not given me the opportunity to check the job out, think about what I want to say, and then call him without him harrassing me for 3 days for payment. I am thinking about calling the police and filing harassment and trespassing charges. I could have torn out the carpet myself. He did non of the prep work needed to lay the linoleum which he knew when we first talked was the other part of the job I wanted him to do. Needless to say, he will never do that part of the job nor any other for me. I could pay him just to make him go away, but it is the principle of the matter and I feel he is ripping me off. I have no problem taking this to court if it comes to that. I just want the job done as discussed with prepping the floor for linoleum. This work was being done on a house I just bought in Mansfield, MO for flip or rental purposes.
Description of Work: I found Holt's floor covering in the Mansfield shopper. I called him and right off the bat he acted like he didn't want to drive the 20 miles to the house to see what I wanted done. He decided to come after all and we talked about replacing the current carpet with linoleum. I needed to paint inbetween tearing up and laying down so he was supposed to prep for the linoleum first and then do the lay down after I painted. He pulled up the carpet and carpet tack strips and put a piece of plywood in a depression from a removed cabinet in order to get the floor level.
