Roofing
He said that he had another job that came first but I would be next depending on the weather. I completely understand weather playing a very important roll when planning a roofing job. However, he reneged on this agreement and went on to do multiple jobs in lieu of doing mine which would have taken less time. He, like many other contractors in this area, fail miserably when it comes to answering their phone or returning calls. That falls in the category of "common courtesy" or "good customer service" in my opinion. If he was too busy to do my job he just needed to come forward and say that so I could look for another contractor. I don't appreciate being "stringed along" with a constantly changing start date. I expect to be told the truth and given a reasonable estimate of when the job can start, weather permitting. That should be an easy thing for someone with many years of experience in the trade to do based on their acquired knowledge over time. I speak from a position of authority with 30 years of construction experience which included bidding, scheduling and managing multimillion dollar projects with industrial mechanical contractors. He knew from my voice and text messages that I was growing more frustrated and sent me a text message of "Cant do roof" after I informed him that I really needed a commitment of when he could do the job because I was going to start a job in mid April that would interfere with his work. This timeline would have given him 6 weeks to complete my simple 2-3 day job. So if I was going to be "next" last November why wouldn't he be able to do mine with no problem? Communication is the key!

Roofing
Rod came to my house and gave me a price (labor only) to install the shingles. He told me exactly what to buy and how much to buy. He fit my work in to his schedule and I really appreciated that. His crew hand nails the shingles in lieu of the pneumatic nail gun and I like that method. I believe the end result is much better.
