Roger Powell Concrete & Excavating

Working with this man has been a total nightmare. We have been going round and round with him for over 2 years. He agreed to give us a check for $4,000 and tear out the driveway, with another contractor of my choice to replace the driveway. This was his idea. He was supposed to do this on 7/24/15, he backed out the night of 7/23/15. Said we needed to go after the concrete company, it wasn't his problem, not a structural issue. Here is a list of the problems we have had with his work: Spalling on the driveway which has gotten worse. Covers 4 sections now. And concrete is discolored in places. Crack in sidewalk that has grown larger, bottom step on stoop cracked. Crack in sidewalk was discovered several days after it was laid. Concrete around crack discolored. Several hunks knocked out of concrete and messy concrete foot prints from his crew on existing driveway addition. Front door gouged and scraped. Still have wooden forms on the front stoop which he kept promising to remove. I have talked with the lawyer that was involved in litigation against Powell in a previous case. He told me he has received numerous calls over the years from people unhappy with his "shoddy" work. This guy needs to be stopped.

The work was exceptional and they did a fantastic job. The cement they placed was thick. They gave me a diagram which I agreed on and that was their basis for their work. It turned out really well. They cleaned up after they were done with their work. It did not show any sign that they were there. They did a great job and I'm very happy with it.

They showed up right on time and the project only took about three hours. The work was top notch.

The 4 man team arrived with all of the appropriate equipment. They started work on time at 7:30am and worked until 10:00pm the first day. The second day they arrived at 8:00am and finished around 3:00pm. They were very careful to relocate the inground sprinkler heads to a safe area prior to beginning the excavation. On day one they removed all of the concrete, then prepped and poured the garage floor. On day two, they prepped and poured the driveway. After the work was completed they relocated the sprinkler heads back to their original locations - testing confirmed they were undamaged and worked. They replaced the sod and generally cleaned up the area to my satisfaction. I did some additional sweeping and cleaning up of the street to prevent my neighbors from having to drive through surface dust and dirt. On the third day one worker returned and cut the expansion joints to my satisfaction (I wanted 8 foot by 7 foot sections).

The original itemized estimate covered the project cost and specified 4,000psi concrete, but left out most of the specifics that were discussed verbally. The lack of written speciifications made me uncomfortable. I created my own contract with all of the specifics itemized, reviewed them with Roger prior to starting work, and secured his signature. All of the specifications were fully met to my satisfaction.

I am the third neighbor to use this company and we were all satisfied with the work completed. While I lack the advantage of time to see how the concrete holds up, I did have neighbors who had their driveways replaced by Roger 9 years ago and their driveways have held up well with no major cracking or settling.

Roger responded promptly with a quote and was by far the most reasonably priced contractor we spoke with. Despite rain delays he got the project completed in a very reasonable amount of time. The floor looks great!
