A few days later when the check did arrive they were so desperate for money that they offered to write my wife a counter check for the difference in the amount of the check including the unused portion of the settlement designated for gutters, about $2400. We were told by Jeremy, the sales guy, that we should go somewhere else to get our gutters because they (Northpoint) were backed up for weeks.
A few days after this I noticed a leak in the ceiling of my master bedroom. I called the company and after a few phone calls was contacted again by Jeremy. I explained the leak and he promised to get someone out that day. He also - quite casually - mentioned that the gutters were 'on their way'. I responded that, following his suggestion, I had already contacted other providers and wanted Northpoint to provide me with an estimate or at minimum a separate invoice. He promised to get that for me and also promised to be on site when the leak was fixed. He never showed up, neither did the estimate. However, two days later, I came home from work early to find a man putting gutters on my house. I was never contacted by the company for permission to access my property nor was I ever presented with an invoice for the work. After contacting the company (I refuse to speak with Jeremy again) I was informed by Charlie (who I was told is Jeremy's boss) that because I was once shown an estimate with pricing on it (not as part of a contract) I was somehow responsible for paying them for the unsanctioned work.
I have resigned myself to letting the small claims courts decide the outcome. To this day neither I nor the other half dozen neighbors that purchased roofs from Jeremy have received the promised warranties for our roofs. Additionally the company performed unauthorized services on my neighbors roof when they installed ice shields and then demanded my neighbor pay for the difference out of pocket. I was even told by Jeremy (via a voicemail) that if I would "just write a check" for the gutters that day then he could "get a paycheck next week".
We still have interior damage that Northpoint won't even acknowledge even though that was part of our initial insurance claim and Jeremy promised to help us out. The leak in my new roof also damaged the ceiling in my master bedroom. The day Jeremy was supposed to come to provide me an estimate for the gutters he also told me on the phone that he would get an estimate for repairing the damage to the ceiling - again, no estimate for repairs or even an acknowledgement that their shoddy workmanship damaged my home further.
I cannot recommend that anyone use this company for any service. Instead of working with me to resolve what should have been fairly easy matters to address their organization decided to accuse me of "never having any intention of paying for gutters" (Charlie) and to have the unmitigated gall to have Jeremy call me to try and resolve the issue after Charlie crudely made the situation worse. To add final insult I am now being called daily by someone named Mary who (via voicemail) told me how her lawyers think this dispute is a "slam dunk" and that I should call her before things "get really bad".
Please consider another provider when looking for a new roof, gutters or any service from Northpoint Exteriors.
