Lawn Service
$340
The owner is very nice and professional. His employees are not very good at what they do, unfortunately. There was also a significant language barrier, making it virtually impossible for us to communicate with the worker(s). Due to travel and illness, we needed someone to help out with the yard. They came once a week to mow and edge the front and back lawn. Their edging around our bushes and sidewalks took the grass down to the bare ground! It looked awful. They said that's the way they do it. One week they didn't show up on their designated day. We called the owner two days after their normal mowing day, and left a message. We started mowing our back lawn since it wasn't clear that anyone was going to come out. While mowing the back, a worker showed up and mowed the front. Apparently he misunderstood our intentions, since after that, he never mowed the back yard again. We tried to communicate with him, but it was clear he didn't speak English, and we don't speak his language (Spanish maybe?). Another time they mowed when the yard was very wet after recent rains. The riding mower they use apparently slid on a steeper part of our lawn, causing a big mud slick area void of any grass. A similar incident happened another time on another part of our lawn creating a bare spot for a week or so. During one of their first mowings in June, I heard a loud bang up against the side of our house. I looked outside to see what had happened, but at that time, I didn't see anything wrong. The mower was still mowing the lawn as usual. Later, however, when we went to turn on our sprinklers, we noticed the main supply pipe (which is right next to the house and sticks up about 6 inches from the ground) was cracked, and leaking water all over the place. It was situated where I thought I had heard the loud noise earlier. Since I didn't see it happen, I couldn't really prove it was the mower's fault, but I have strong suspicions that the mower ran into the pipe, hard, causing it to crack. We repaired it ourselves. After using them for a couple months, our lawn looked pretty beat up. There were still bare spots where they continued to use a weed wacker to edge the grass down to the dirt. There were still a couple damaged areas from where their mower slid and damaged the lawn. We decided we had had enough of their service. It's taken us a couple months to get the lawn looking good again, but at least it came back.
