"We did this roof many years ago and when we were discussing what needed to be done to install the roof correctly. We told the customer that the Gutter Helmet product that was installed would have to be removed by the company that installed it and then replaced after the roof was completed. [Member Name Removed] chose not to do that but agreed to have us leave the existing drip edge on the roof as it was impossible to remove without the gutters being removed first. Then 8 years later after the 5 year warranty had expired, she called and said she was having a problem with the drip edge. She also had problems with the gutter product that I spoke about earlier and had paid someone to remove it. Even though her roof was out of the warranty period, we special ordered some bundles of shingles and did a repair to the back drip edge. I had forgotten the issue with her opting to not remove the gutter helmet product so that we could replace the drip edge during the roof installation. The salesman reminded me of that fact after we made the additional repair. [Member Name Removed] had also forgotten the issue with her gutters and why we could not replace them because of the custom gutters that she opted not to have removed."
I wouldn't give that company a top rating. They try to dodge, and get out of anything that is considered faulty work. The only thing I really got them to admit to, and paid for readily, was four flat tires because they left roofing nails everywhere. Even though they did a magnetic sweep, they didn't get half of what they had. They're contracting a company that uses the same labor as what they did on the deck. They drop off 2 or three non English speaking people, and they're not really that well trained in what they're doing. They broke stuff in our house. You just don't throw entire bundles of roofing shingles around on top of a roof. That drops expensive clocks off of walls, breaks your wine glasses, because they rattle them out of the holders, and tore up guttering. Guttering had to be replaced, because they were walking in the gutters, they bent them everywhere.
"The nature of this roof job was dictated by the insurance company of the homeowner. A tree had fallen on the house and busted two roof joists. We repaired the damaged 2 roof joists per the insurance scope. The homeowner authorized us to complete the repairs according to the insurance scope. The City of Kansas City inspected and appproved the repairs that were made to match city code. This review is for a house that was completed a year ago this is the first time that we have been notified of a exaust issue. Had we know about this issue we would have taken care of it promptly. We are disappointed with the slowness of the insurance company for taking so long to get the final check to the homeowner so that they could pay us the balance due on the job. We stand by our work and strive to complete every job to the satisfaction of the homeowner. We have completed work for over 10,000 customers and have an A+ rating with the Better Business Bureau. We want this customer and every customer that we serve to be happy with our products and service. Thank you for this review and we will use it as a trainig tool to better service our customers."

We then were asked by Mark to please delay the siding job until the fall so crews would have work extended later in the year. Since the siding job wasn't crucial to enviromental hazards, we agreed. Sept. and Oct. went by and once again we had to call to ask when the job would begin. Calls to the home office led to avoidance by the owner. He spoke with me once, and then every time I called after that, he was conveniently on "out". Calls to Mark, the sales agent and foreman, were returned, but by then he had me confused with other clients and couldn't remember our contract or what we had talked about. On several occasions, he attempted to talk down to me (being female, I suppose) and his agitated tone of voice was not professional at all. Once again, they sent out a crew to start the siding job late in the week, without notice to us. And once again, a crew came that only had one
person that could speak "some" English. I gave them permission to start, and went back into the house. This time I went out and viewed the work they were doing on several occasions and noticed they were not applying a new house wrap that had been part of the estimate. I stopped the work and asked them why they were not using a new house wrap under the siding. The poorly speaking "foreman" of the crew told me he wasn't told to do that. They took down the siding they had put up, and work stopped for the afternoon. Lowe's brand house wrap was brought to my house by a guy that said he was only a deliverer and knew nothing, and the crew began to start up again the next day. I was in my kitchen using my microwave when I lost all power to my kitchen outlets around my counters. After checking my fusebox, I went out and explained that they must have hit a wire. The "foreman" stated they did not. I had to hire an electrician to come to my house and look at the problem, in which he found a nail from the siding job had split thru wiring to my kitchen. I called Liberty Roofing (Mark) and explained to him what happened and asked him to meet the electrician at my house to show the problem. Well, that took quite awhile. Meanwhile, I paid the electrician to get 3 out of my 4 outlets back to working. We took pictures of the nail invading the wire and waited for Mark to schedule time at the house with the electrician to see the problem. He finally came, attempted to blame it on the wiring, but owned up to it and then settled on taking it off the estimate price. Electrician fixed it then, and all in kitchen was what I hope...back to normal.
Gutter guys came and did the guttering.... not much of a problem there. I did go out and watch (as I have learned to keep an eye on these guys as they do the work) and at one time, I asked why there were more dents in the seam than usual. They said that is they way it is. Best answer....that is the way it is. Even though I showed them there were not as many in the old guttering they took down. They basically went on their happy way and left it as is.
It took from June to basically January to complete the whole deal. The kitchen wiring chaos was finally completed after all the holidays. Liberty Roofing finally contacted my insurance company sometime in late February to receive their final payment. Well, first they contacted me, but I told them I couldn't get a check until they sent my insurance company an invoice of their work. On top of the invoice, they applied for the overhead and profit money and was approved. I had no clue what that meant, as once again, this was my first experience with any contractor. I rec'd two final checks from my insurance company, one for the final payoff and the other for the overhead and profit. They knew exactly when I rec'd them in the mail, because Mark started calling asking for the money. I told him I needed to get ahold of my insurance and ask them to explain why there were two checks. He told me he would explain, but I asked him to be patient until I could hear from my insurance. After getting an explanation from the insurance company about overhead and profit, which I still don't understand based on the fact that this company signed a contract to do the work for a set amount of money, and walked off with more....we finalized it all when I turned over two checks to Mark.
In conclusion: Liberty Roofing, in my experience, has not only poor communication techniques with their clients... but appeared to cut corners in the work that was being done by crews that obviously were hired that could not speak English enough to answer my questions. And when I attempted to call the office and talk to Bruce, the owner...he always seemed to be "out" after my first initial conversation with him. Now I only called that office a total of probably 4 times. Most of my calls were to Mark, and believe me, it was never that enjoyable talking to him after the contract had been signed. Before that, of course, he was very friendly, very helpful, and respectable. But after, wow, it was like talking to stick of dynamite.
I will not recommend this company to my friends, neighbors or acquaintances due to not only my issues, but also my neighbor's, who also hired this company to work on his house. But that is his issue. I am only aware because I live next to him and saw things happen that shouldn't have.
Not the best first contractor experience really, but I sure have learned alot. And I ask alot of questions so I can understand, which seemed to just annoy and irritate the owner, the crews and Mark. I always thought a company should develop a rappor with their customers to enjoy satifactory results, but I guess in contract work, that doesn't always apply. Thanks Angie's list though, for allowing me to explain my experience.
