We have moved cross country 5 times so we have a lot of experience in what to expect from a full service moving contract.  Here's
everything that went wrong and a few things that went well.  First off, our weight was estimated at 12,085 pounds. Our actual weight was 8,880. We were credited $19.00 per hundredweight for the difference, but that is a HUGE discrepancy which reflects on the inexperience of the salesperson (Steve Becher).  A $19 per hundredweight credit hardly makes a dent in a $10,600 move.  A more accurate original quote would have saved us a lot more money.
The major problem was with the packing team that showed up to do all of the boxing prior to the move date. They were unprofessional, uncooperative, argumentative, and even mislabeled many boxes with the wrong order number.  When I pointed this out to the supervisor on the next day of packing, she thought it was funny. A lot of the damage that our boxed goods sustained could have been avoided had the packing team followed Mayflower's own guidelines for packing, especially wrapping items in paper and packing them in appropriate containers.  At destination we discovered numerous items that were packed without regard for their protection.
1) Lamps packed upside down suffered bent sockets as a result. Mayflower's Moving Packing Tips states that "Mayflower has cartons
specially designed for lamp bases."  Our lamps were packed with other goods in the same box, including stemware and heavy ceramic items in the same box.
2) Artificial flower arrangements not wrapped but all smashed into one box resulted in flattened arrangements and the loss of many dried flowers that ended up destroyed at the bottom of the packing box.
3) Men's dress shoes just thrown into a box.  Mayflower's Moving Packing Tips state "Pack each pair of shoes in their own shoebox if possible and place in a storage carton or large box.  If you do not have shoeboxes handy, individually wrap each pair."  These shoes were not wrapped at all.
4) A metal sculpture thrown into a box of artificial flower arrangements upside down and unwrapped is now bent as a result.
Again, all of this damage probably could have been avoided had the packers done their jobs properly and, as Studdard claims, they were trained to do.  The Operations Manager, Douglas Cook, was unresponsive to our phone calls until we emailed numerous pictures of the damage. No effort was made on his part to compensate us for what we paid for professional packing services; he merely said he would address the issues with the packing team.
Do not believe the salesperson when he tells you that your goods will be loaded and moved on the same van.  Our goods were loaded from our house into a van on May 28, unloaded into Studdard's warehouse because no cross country driver was available and Studdard needed their van, reloaded onto a moving van on June 4, and delivered into storage at the local Florida agent's warehouse on
June 12.  "Agreed Delivery Dates" on our Order for Service were June 2 to June 6.  Considering the number of times our goods were handled, we will admit that we expected more damage to our furniture, so that is a compliment to the moving crew.  In fact, only 4 items of furniture/furnishings suffered minor damage.
We do think our moving coordinator, Wendy Wilson, did a fine job. She is very professional, honest, and reassuring.  She is the only person to date who has apologized to us for our dissatisfaction.

This was the worst moving experience of my life. Under no circumstances would I use this company again. They did not arrive on the day they were scheduled to pick-up my stuff! I had to be out of the apartment that day and there was someone scheduled to move in, and the truck did not arrive! Studdard had not properly scheduled a pick-up in Mayflower's system. They struggled over the course of the day to find a truck in the northeast to actually do the move, but at one point they were telling me that they might not be able to move me after all. They came that close to leaving me with no movers. This was after I had made arrangements with them a month in advance. By sheer luck they eventually found a truck and a crew of packers who did a terrible job of packing my stuff. There was countless small damages to my things. Overall this move was a disaster.
