The crew worked under extreme heat conditions. The new roofing material has a good fit and finish. The work area was neat and clean.
During the inspection piece of the home purchasing process, a new roof was strongly recommended for the house we were purchasing. After receiving proposals from a few different companies, I was a bit surprised by the unprofessionalism as well as the lack of detail in their scope of work. Preferred was by far the most thorough in their inspection, proposal, and recommendations for repairs. There were a couple of additional recommendations as they started the process which were communicated clearly and effectively in order to make sure we were comfortable with what they were doing. I truly appreciate the additional steps they took to enhance the cosmetic appearance of our roof. In addition, we were in a bit of a time crunch in order to have the work done before closing and Kevin and his team made it happen! The overall service during the entire process was outstanding and the crew was courteous and professional. I constantly recommended Preferred Roofing to friends and family for any roofing or guttering needs and will be a repeat customer myself!
"Thank you for the opportunity to respond to the allegations of [member name removed]. During the installation of the roof (July 2013) there was a thunderstorm that came in quickly and did cause some damage to an area of the ceiling. [member name removed] wanted to have a contractor of his choice fix the ceiling and Preferred Roofing agreed to this. [member name removed] contractor performed the ceiling repair and Preferred Roofing did pay for the repair work. He hadn’t had any leaks since the roof was installed until the February 2014 snowstorm which created large ice dams on homes throughout the Kansas City area. I have pictures showing that ice dams were up to 8” think and full length of [member name removed] valleys seven days after the storm. The ice dams were not caused by any work we did or did not do. Ice dams are common in the snow-belt areas. Snow melts when heat is lost from the roof. This can being a freeze thaw pattern with the layers of snow and ice which is what we call the ice dam or freezeback. Water will ultimately end up backing up under shingles and down through the roof sheathing. From there damage can be caused to ceilings or walls depending on the location of the ice dam. Many houses in the Kansas City area experienced ice dam damage as a result of the February weather and many of them for the first time in the duration of their time in their home. This was not caused by any defect in the roof. We met during the time of the ice damming and agreed that I would come back and bring the GAF territory manager (Shingle Manufacturer) with me to inspect the roof for proper installation. That meeting occurred on February 28, 2014 and the roof was inspected by the GAF territory manager as well as myself. The GAF territory manager and I both found that the roof was installed properly. I would like to address a few of the other issues that [member name removed] has mentioned. First, the work was completed in a timely manner. The roofing materials were shipped on 7-16-13. Work began on 7-17-13 and work was completed within one week. The crew was paid for the work on 7-24-13 which indicates the work was finished at this time. Second, the gutter issue was fully resolved. A price of guttering was damaged where the crew had to access the roof in order to carry all materials up onto the roof. The roof was a 2500 square foot re-deck. After the work was completed, we scheduled our gutter crew to repair the gutter. Gutter repair was done on 8-13-13. As for the clean up concerns, we tell all customers we will be over after the job is completed to pick up any extra materials, inspect the job and do a second clean up. [member name removed] says he cleaned up some debris however, this was prior to us getting there to do our final clean up and inspection. As for the leak in the bathroom, we attempted to gain access into the attic on February 28th to see what may be the issue after finding nothing wrong on top of the roof and we were denied access to the attic by [member name removed]. At the time the job was completed, [member name removed] was satisfied with the work we had done and paid us in full on 8-14-13. We do not collect any money from customers prior to work being completed and them being satisfied. The roof is properly installed. [member name removed] ice dam damage to his ceiling is an issue that should be taken up with his insurance company."
The gutters were done the next day and I love my new gutters with the covers. We have a lot of helicopter seeds from maple trees every spring. They used to clog everything up, but now I don't have to clean my gutters anymore. This is a great product.
When roof was done I found out later (DUE to the work not being done I wouldn't pay and the company filling suite.) I had to hire expert to look at inside work for court, Expert looked at roof and found installation of the flashing was not done correctly and that no moisture barrier was used. With out moisture barrier roof is not up to city code.
I was given a bid that said that they would install ice and moisture barrier. It was not installed.
Foreman of the job was not present for roof work which was a problem due to roofing crew not speaking english well or not at all.
Foreman did not have all the materials to do job, I had to supply many things. Primer for living room ceiling, tape, and all painting supplys were/are mine.
Many times foreman text me about personal issues and sometimes late at night.
11/24/2010 was the last day that anyone from that company was at my home, even though foreman said he was going to return to do the priming and painting in master bath to hopefully get the job to a place that I could finish with out hiring others to do same job.
When I asked for a detailed invoice of the job, I got I view as a rewritten bid sheet with many items on there not being completed.
My insurance company received a bill that did not mach the work the company did (poorly or not at all).
I have rough cut ceder beams in my home that now have to either be painted or boxed in due to drywall dust and primer because beams where not protected for the job (even though I provided tape to do so).
I ended up paying $12,200.00 for a roof that needs to be replaced and all work inside my house that needs to be finished and or fixed is out of pocket.
