Marinas, Boats
After additional phone calls made by my husband he was told they had ordered the wrong fuel pump and had to reorder. He received a phone call from a mechanic who told him the boat had deteriorated gas lines that needed replaced and that would be an additional $300.00. On September 2, we received a call saying the boat was ready to be picked up. The mechanic said we needed to stop by a marina and bring a gallon of synthetic oil with us to put in the reservoir tank. We did and the mechanic put the oil in the reservoir tank and went back to the office to collect payment from my husband. I waited in the car which happened to be parked behind the boat. I noticed the oil the mechanic had just put in leaking out of the bottom of the shroud, and dripping onto the gravel. I went inside to inform the mechanic. He told me it was just overflow from pouring the oil in. I told him it was more than that and needed to be looked into. Upon closer investigation my husand and I noticed that the shroud, as well as, the oil reservoir had been cracked (something had been backed into our boat). The mechanic told us that we must have brought it in that way. Don arrived and after explaining to him what had happened he also said we must have brought it in that way. Our boat was not brought in that way. We know this for a fact because we had gone through a car wash and washed it before we took it to his business. (In addition, I'm sure had that been the case they would have told us it was cracked when they put in the fuel pump and gas lines). The owner then told us he woud replace the reservoir with one from another boat and we could go ahead and take it while he ordered another shroud. He said this would be at his cost. I told him, "No, I want the boat repaired before I take it off the lot." My husband called on Tuesday, Sept. 13, and they said a used shroud had come in that day. My husband called on Friday, Sept. 16, and they said it would be ready after 3:00 p.m. and they would call so we could pick it up. No one called. My husband called back at 4:00 p.m. and got an answering service. Don called at 5:30 p.m. and said it was ready. We picked up the boat Saturday afternoon. The bill was $1430. and Don adjusted it at my husband's request $140.00. We paid $1290.00 and our boat was in their shop for over 2 months.
Update: It rained Sunday after picking up our boat on Saturday, so we put the boat in the water on Monday. After about 5 minutes of running it, it began bogging down and stopping. (This was the same problem we had before we took it in). We docked the boat and my husband again called Don. He said he did not know what was wrong and to bring it in again and he would run a compression test on it. We took our boat back in on Wednesday, September 21, and picked it up again on Saturday, October 8. The cost was an additional $233 after he took it to a repair service in Kansas and put a smaller gas tank on it. We are now up to $1523.00. We put the boat in the water on Sunday, October 9. The motor began bogging down and on low speed would not run. (Again, same problem). My husband called Don and he said he cannot figure out what is wrong with it. He said he will come to our lake on Wednesday, October 12, and take it out in the lake himself. Don did come out and took the boat out. After checking other various things he said he could not fix it and recommended we take it to the repair service in Kansas. My husband called Don and he agreed to keep the cost at $1290.00 instead of $1523.00. So, after 3 months and $1290.00 our boat is still not fixed and we are starting over with another company. The end.
