About us

Expression Theory teaches music using a new standard for education. Covering phonetics, physics, color, anatomy, history, and various other categories in the arts and sciences. The color coded labels are applied to your instrument and away you go. Instead of spending hours trying to figure out what to play, you spend 30 minutes training your body to hear and experience the feeling of music. This process dramatically reduces the learning time needed to compose and practice complicated pieces of music.

I have no idea.  I gave this as a gift to my daughter years ago at Christmas.  If I remember correctly she was pleased with the quick follow-up by the gentleman who owns this company.
The fact is, Angie's List flashes this reminder at me every time I have signed on to my account for the last couple years  or so. I have asked them numerous times to remove it and they say they will but obviously it does not get done.  I apologize to you-- you deserve a better review than this I am sure!

The service was okay. I think I bought the deal too early. They did not have the program set up right just yet.  A lot of the program was not up online. I believe the site was just being formed and a lot of the videos were ready to watch. The site nicely put together from what I could see. I think if I were to take lessons now I believe the service would be much more helpful.

It didn’t work out. I gave it to my niece who was in British Columbia. My understanding when they sold it to me was that the Big Deal would be sent through the computer. But when they tried to initiate it, they couldn’t get it to function and the software didn’t work. My sister-in-law and niece called me several times to say they’re having problems. We call them and they would tell us everything is fine. On the last conversation I had with them, they said there’s nothing they can do. My opinion is they didn’t follow through. On a moment or two, it was fine. I gave them money and nothing happened. They couldn't seem to resolve the problem.

I wish that I could give a better explanation of the lessons, but my sister n law (14 yr old) took them. She likes the lessons. She was a little confused at first, but she finally understood.

Expression theory is an atypical online guitar instruction series.  Instead of learning rote musical theory: notes, scales, etc., ET uses a system of color codes.  You are provided with stickers to attach to your guitar's neck to assist with locating where to place your fingers in order to play music.
Unfortunately, the online instructional videos were haphazardly presented and not in depth enough to teach a new theory of music.  The reason and use of the color coded stickers was almost non existent.  After a brief video on how the ear processes music, the video goes on to where to place the stickers.  What the former had to do with the latter was never explained.
The videos were in HD, but did not zoom in to demonstrate where the instructor was placing his fingers, did not explain which color was chosen, what the sequence was, or why.  "Then move on to the next note color..."  Which "next note color"?  Why? What is the progression, how does one color build or relate musically to each other?  After six or so "lessons," I gave up.

It didn't work out very well. The big deal was for a system to learn guitar. I purchased it and tried it out and found that it doesn't work very well for me. It's pretty clearly intended for people who don't have musical background and that wasn't made clear when I purchased it. So when I bought it he was using lots of terminology that was actually stepping on my musical training. When I contacted him about it he said he had a very specific reason that would explain the use of this terminology. He kept using this really confusing terminology and I actually had to stop using it because I was getting too mixed up. I didn't spend anything more than the big deal amount. I did like his approach in a very general sense, it's very novel and I think if it was made to align better with other musical training that it would work out nicely.

They are easy to schedule with and gave me a quality instructor without my having to pay extra or ask for someone in particular. The hour tutorial is filled and there is little or no wasted time during the session.
