"In my 20+ years in this business, this was the first time I have ever left a customer hanging, ever! He has berated my crew, and my son on multiple occasions, included in this review. I also have never replied to less than great review, but I will not hold my tongue on this one. I have had a few difficult customers in the past, and have always completed, but unfortunately Mr. [Member Name Removed] is an individual that himself cannot be pleased. We made multiple trips due to weather & the complicated area he wanted constructed, little room to work in a tight back yard with fencing. We offered in the estimate to lay yard mats to protect the grass, but he said it was not needed, although he had a nice yard. Upon our arrival, he said the back yard was not important, but that he wanted the front yard protected. We thought ahead, and brought yard mats & laid in the front & back yard to the pool, day after day. He approved the footings & walls, and made changes, in which he approved again before pouring. Two sprinkler heads and 1 line were damaged during demo, and we repaired all at our cost , no charge to the owner. Also, there was never an advance of $10,000, not one penny when we arrived. After the deck had been torn out, removed from site, block wall demod, footings poured, walls poured, steps poured, equipment pad poured, and the remaining deck & patio set up 100% for the final pour, did Mr. [Member Name Removed] give us (he offered, we did not ask) a partial check for some of the work completed. His liner was also ripped before we started any coping work (in which we have pictures with dates). I could also go on & on, but I will not. We have performed thousands of projects from residential to commercial, and continue to do so with no advertising due to referrals from our past customers. You may not know me, or Mr. [Member Name Removed], but this review is less than truthful or representative of the business we run."
to have a concrete patio poured and selected Lew's as one
of their selling points was they would be able to complete
job before a certain time period. Well due to the rain
they were unable to make that appointment which is
understandable. They rescheduled for a week later as long
as weather was okay. Well, the weather held up very well
and ground was dry. Even contacted one of the employees on
a social media website to ask for something additional when
they came out 3 days later. He indicated that they would
be able to accommodate and were still planning on coming
out as long as there was no rain. Well, that day comes and
they do not show. After finally getting a hold of someone
several hours after they were to come, I find out they
decided to take another job that day and I would not get
the patio poured that day. In fact, I would have to wait a
couple more days, when rain was again in the forecast.
Their explanation was they had a contract and would get a
penalty if they didn't do that other job that day. No
call, no show. I had to track them down myself to get this
information. This was red flag #1. Since they were still
able to get the patio in that week we decided to let them
still do it as opposed to selecting out backup contractor
which was 30 days out. The next scheduled day it was of
course raining so they pushed it out one more day. When
that day comes they started the digging and setting the
form. This is where the real problems began. Part of what
we asked for when doing this is to have all of the old dirt
and topsoil removed and hauled away. This was something
they said they did in the bidding process as they had to
level the ground and put down gravel to support the
concrete. They ended up just pushing the dirt and sod
along the edges of the form which made it look like a mound
with an aggressive slope. As I did not want this, I asked
them to remove that dirt as that was what I originally
asked for. My yard was still in good shape at this point,
except the 3-4 feet around the concrete form. During this
dirt removal, they proceeded to decimate the rest of the
backyard with their heavy equipment. They shrugged at the
damage and said they would bring out some dirt to backfill.
This was 100% unnecessary for them to have to bring in the
heavy equipment to do this if they would have removed the
dirt as they were digging instead of push to another
section of my yard. Additionally, when they were finished
destroying the yard to remove the dirt that should have
been removed in the first place, they threw plywood boards
on the side of our brand new house which required touch up
painting. It surely did not seem they were interested in
respecting our property. So all of this was on a Thursday
before 4th of July. They were not able to get the form
placed in time before it started raining again so they
couldn't pour. The catch was that the concrete mix wasn't
able to be delivered on Friday since they were closing that
day. So basically, I had a tore up yard for the entire
holiday weekend. My guests got to see all of the damage.
They came out the following Monday to pour. However, they
did not do what they quoted us. In our quote we were
supposed to have a darker color stamped border that would
have needed to be poured first. They actually poured it
all at once and then stained the top of the border. Since
I was landscaping up to the edge of the concrete i also
needed the sides to be the same color as the top of the
border. When bringing this up to Terry one of the owners,
he said no one ever pours the border first and they do not
do a separate integral color. This is interesting because
our quote specifically says that they were going to pour
the border first and it would be a different integral
color. He was not able to understand so he started
threatening us with a lien on the property if we didn't
pay. At this point, we decided to cut our losses and just
pay them so they would leave. After looking at the
concrete, there is already a crack forming (8 days after
pouring), several pits, the colors are not even throughout,
there are scuff marks, dimples, etc. Terry states that
that is normal, that you would never have the same color
throughout when using colored concrete and there are always
going to be imperfections. I've seen many patios using
different types of colored or stamped concrete and have
never seen the types of imperfections of color discrepancy
as what they have done. This was a very expensive lesson
for us. In the future we will create contracts that
specify exactly what is to be done with finished product
expectations. In short because i know this is TL;DR, if
you ask Lew's to get a bid to you and you select them for
your work. Be sure to have them go over the quote with you
so there is no chance they will get away with shortcuts
once the job begins. Get everything from prep to finished
product expectations in writing. This is the worst
contractor we have ever had in terms of customer service,
accuracy, and quality of work. We have has many
contractors from landscapers to deck builders out at our
new home and all of them except for Lew's actually did the
job they were paid to do, correctly.
When we start constructing the decks, we had to dig, rebar and pour additional concrete to account for the error in the location of the concrete footings. According to Code, the center of the Deck 6x6 post should be very close to the center of the concrete footing (within the inner 1/2 center of the concrete footing. In some cases, the center of the post was on the edge of the concrete footing.
Lews concrete were provided with drawings of the project but that meant nothing. As a result of this mess up, the projects was delayed significantly because they were the subcontractor not the main contractor.
They removed the old sidewalk that was tilting toward the house and replaced with a new front sidewalk from the front door to the the driveway. It looks amazing. I love it.
I would recommend them to all my friends and neighbors.
I was really happy with the finished product.
