In the fifty plus years since, Suburban has grown into a multi-faceted retail, wholesale and service organization dedicated to the principles of growing superior products, providing excellent service and always delivering great value. SL&G now operates three garden centers/nurseries: 105th & Roe, Overland Park, KS 135th & Wornall, Kansas City, MO (Martin City) K-7 & Prairie Star Pkwy, Lenexa, KS, (open Spring 2011). Suburban has two growing facilities that supply nearly 75% of the trees, shrubs and bedding plants sold at the nurseries. Suburban also maintains a yard-waste recycling center which accepts yard-waste for recycling into mulch and soil products. The Lawn Care Department operates out of a facility adjacent to the Yard Waste Recycling Center and provides full service grounds maintenance to many customers both commercial and residential. Services include mowing, turf and tree fertilization, shrub pruning and lawn renovation.

"We are very happy that you were pleased with our work, [member name removed]! Have a great summer!"
We bought a 3" maple and a 3" linden tree, and had them plant it. Both trees have done very poorly, and I even called for a warranty on the linden tree as it was losing leaves and not settling in, even towards the end of the warranty period. This was a $450 purchase for the Linden tree, so I wasn't about to call it a wash. One of Suburban's tree guys came out, said the mulch was a little high, and pulled back about 1-2" mulch from the base of the tree. The tree continued to suffer, despite my watering and fertilizing. Now half the tree is dead. I called Suburban, and they said it was out of warranty. I argued that when it was under warranty, you more or less denied my claim and the tree is dying in spite of you "expertly" pulling back the mulch. They then forwarded me to the owner, Matt, who is extremely difficult to get into.
I had to call him 3-4 times before he called me back. He seemed amenable to replacing the tree with a 2" tree, and said he would send me a picture to make sure that was ok. Seemed ok, until he never sent the picture, and then now I haven't been able to get him to return my calls for the last two months.
I suppose the moral of the story is, if you have something you need warrantied, push for it. Disappointed at the outcome here, and I will be taking my money elsewhere.
When we went to select a new tree for our backyard, the kids were thrilled at riding in a golf cart to go see all the available trees. Our goal was to get the largest maple we could find within our budget. Luckily, they were having a sale and we were able to get the size tree I was hoping to buy. While it is somewhat pricey to get this size tree and have it delivered and installed - it was well worth it. I like the fact that the tree is already a nice size and we had a bird family build a nest in it within a week of its arrival.
The crew arrived on the scheduled day and did a great job with putting in the tree. The kids liked watching the new tree going in - we watched from the window. Overall, looks great and is a good addition to our yard. It is very easy to do business with Suburban and we'll probably add in another tree next year!
