"June 1, 2009: I was shocked and dismayed to find this report on Angie’s list. At the time this report was submitted RARE Construction was not a member and did not subscribe to or use Angie’s list to solicit business. We recently joined Angie’s list and only then did we find this report. This customer signed a non-refundable contract to begin the project of $2, 500. The amount was to be applied to the cost of the total project. RARE’s designer, contractor and engineer made up a complete set of drawings, specifications and a total itemized bid which we were never able to deliver. We attempted numerous times to contact the customer within three weeks of the first meeting to deliver the proposal and the customer did not return phone calls or answer their door, or respond to notes left at the home. This project consisted of converting an existing screened-in porch to a three season room. The porch was full of furniture, boxes and etc. We asked the client to begin removing items from the space so we could properly see the floor condition and other important interior details. This was never accomplished in that three week period. Member stated his feeling that RARE Construction was not capable of performing this work because we are “certified in kitchen and bath remodeling”. We do hold that certification, but our company also builds multi-story room additions, performs light commercial work and has consistently won major design and remodeling awards. I am very concerned that he wrote this review, as the true client was a woman. She owned the house and signed the contract. I am uncertain of their actual relationship. I have driven by the house and there has been no remodeling done on this project at this time. We will be calling and then writing a certified letter to her to see if we can bring resolution, even at this late date, to the situation. RARE Construction has a great reputation in Kansas City. We are a family business, my husband Rae is the contractor and has an engineering background. I am the designer and as partners in the business I also handle marketing and administration for the company. We invite anyone who reads this response to visit our website and review our work. We are happy to provide the names of customers who have done business with us for more than ten years, calling us back time and again to do their major and minor remodeling work and repairs.
