Perkin Automotive Service

It was excellent and very good. What makes them excellent are the customer service, their promptness, good value and they don't overcharge.

I have been going to Perkins for about 5 years now. I have always had good and punctual service from them. However, in the past 6-12 months, things have really gone down hill. Most of the time, they can't get my car in even for an oil change. Today was the worst, though. This is the last time I'm taking my car to them. I made an appointment 3 days ago. I dropped off my car at 1:00 to have the windows looked at and at 6 I hadn't heard back, so I called. They said they couldn't get to my car until the morning. I, like most people I think, use my car daily, not just for fun, but for family essentials like transporting children to school, grocery shopping, etc. If they can't keep appointments they shouldn't offer them. They said my options were to come back and get the car or wait until after 9 the next day. To be fair, there is a gentleman there who is very kind and helpful, but the other staff, while not rude, are very short of helpful or kind.

Overall they did a decent job with some fairly standard work. I initially wanted the old oil change with tire rotation that they use to do, but that was not available so I picked decided to get the car winterized which included these treatments and some others. Work did not take too long. The price was okay, they did talk about work that needed to be done in the future. I looked at the prices and the work for them seemed over price. The total amount of cost for the work amount to getting the same done at the dealership. I was expecting a bit of a discount over what the dealer cost was. Oh well, I will probably continue to use them for routine care (oil change), but will shop around for any of the other work.

The sputtering continued and the techs had difficulty fixing the symptom, though they did alot of work on the car.
The electrical system was old, and probably needed some work anyway so I got some benefit. I brought the car to a different shop, and the troubleshooting was much more exact. The problem was finally fixed for about 25% of the cost for the Perkins work. In fairness, I'm not sure if the problem was in both the ignition system and the air intake sensors.

Took advantage of a couple of coupons and received a free oil change, an evac and recharge for the A/C ($79 disount, so I only paid for the refrigerant, parts and dye), and a state inspection. I made an appointment, and they were expecting me when I arrived. All work was done on schedule, the staff was professional and friendly, and they honored coupons without hesitation. I will definitely visit them again.

I have brought many vehicles here. I was very unhappy when after replacing a transmission on one of my vehicles they told me to replace my engine. They then said it wasn't worth it. Why replace the transmission and that is worth it but not the engine? When I went to another location (dealer), I was told my engine was fine but needed a spring. I wonder now if the new water pump and timing belt put in a different car the week before was even necessary or the transmission was necessary. They are nice people but will never trust them with my cars again.

I would love to give them a good rating. They were nice and helpful and they are in my neighborhood. Unfortunately, we have had to return to them to have work redone on three separate occasions. Each time they redid the work that was under warranty. However, we were in the situation of having our car in the shop, paying for service, and needing a tow truck the very next day on TWO separate occasions. On the third occasion, other work was done before a different technician came up with a diagnosis that was included under warranty. We simply don't have time to have our car repaired two or three times to get it right. I am glad others had good experiences, but our experience was not positive, and as convenient as this shop is for us, we won't be going back.

It went very well over all. The person that checked me in was very professional. Shop was busy. I thought I needed a brake job but was pleasantly surprised when they told me I did not. They recommended new tires which I knew I needed, replaced the wiper blades, changed the oil and some other minor things. I felt they were honest. They finished on time and I think I will go back there many more times.

Everything went great. They are very honest and don't try to sell us on things we don't need.

They have been very good in their job. The prices they charge match the estimates. They were very knowledgeable with their profession. Once I drive my car in, they ensure to give it back in shape. They are very honest and friendly. I liked their services and will use the same in future.

They give great advice over the phone that can save me money. They have been keeping my car going for some time.
