JS Construction Consultants (JSCC) came to my home in late May of 2014 to do a roof inspection due to hail damage. The consultant provided detailed information about the hail damages on the roof and about the claim process with the insurance company. The consultant even provided a ?Catastrophic Loss Process? document that included questions to ask the insurance companies regarding the claim, repair which listed the repair/production process as well as the process in dealing with the insurance company. Up to that point, everything was going in the right direction. A few weeks after the initial inspection by JSCC, the insurance company approved the claim and cut the initial check for the work to begin. I then met with the consultant in early July-2014 and signed the contract.
The week before the installation, JSCC called me to have the driveway clear on Friday to place the materials. The materials never came on Friday, so I called the company on Saturday and the company said they were running behind but materials would arrive on Saturday, which they did. However, I had to call them to find out rather than them call me. The installation was scheduled for Monday at around 8-9AM, it was well after 11AM so I called and the consultant said his crew had to finish another house and the crew was heading to my home to start installation. Again, I had to call to find out ? poor and miserably communication by the consultant. There were several items in the contract that the company didn?t live up to. For example, ?protect siding, bushes, decks, AC units, cover pool, and roller magnet the yard, walk, and drives.? The company used very few tarps around the home, there was a ton of debris and nails all over the yard after the 1st day of installation, several bushes were damaged. I pointed out to the consultant the lack of use of tarps and he said his crew would start using more next day, but they didn?t. The company didn?t use a tarp on the attic either.
There was a lack of supervision overseeing the installation crew. The consultant would come home a couple times a day for short periods of time to oversee the crew. On the 3rd and final day of installation, I got home at around 5:15PM and the consultant was in his truck taking a nap, I approached him and asked how are things going, his reply was ?let?s take a walk around the home.? After taking a brief walk around the home, the consultant went right back inside the truck and stayed there for another hour and half. In fact, he was just waiting for installation to be completed in order to take the final check. About 90 minutes later, the consultant told me that installation had been completed and asked for the final check. I said, before I give you the check let?s take a final walk around the home and make sure everything has completed. There were a few things incomplete: shingles not nailed correctly, shingles hanging, etc. The crew corrected a few items before living, but had I not said anything it would not been done. So much for the ?will conduct a triple, redundant inspection of your project during the construction phase? listed in the company?s website. I had to call the company the day after, because there were still tons of nail on the yard and I don?t mean 5-10, but literally dozens if not hundreds of them.
JSCC promised me that they would take care of all the paperwork for the insurance company. They fell miserably in this aspect. My insurance company was frustrated with JSCC of their lack of responsiveness to turn in paperwork/invoices in order to issue final payment. So much for the ?JSCC will provide all necessary documentation to the homeowner, the insurance co. and mortgage co.? listed on the Catastrophic Loss Process.
After installation was completed, I never heard from the company. The company never called me to see if I was happy with the installation or to say thank you for your business.
The roofing replacement was an expensive replacement for my insurance company. The initial estimate by the insurance was $15,000 (actual cash value + depreciation). JSCC filed a supplemental schedule for another $3,000. When the final invoice came, they added $5,800 more in ?General contractor?s overhead & profit?. Should the initial estimate by JSCC have included overhead and profit? The grand total came at $23,800, that?s a heck of an expensive roof replacement for a 1550 sf. split-level home.
I don?t recommend using this company at all.
"In response to the Angie's List review of JS Construction Consultants on 10/25/2015 I would like to begin by saying that an F rating is extremely unfair and unwarranted. The first issue involving the material being delivered 1 day late was completely out of JS Construction Consultant's control. The second issue of the installation beginning a couple of hours behind schedule is well in the range of normal as far as the construction industry goes. As far as the oversight of the installation crew, There was an on-sight manager who was there as necessary to oversee the installation. The were some minor issues at the time of installation but they were addressed and subsequently fixed. As for the communication and paperwork with the insurance company, all aspects of the supplement process and invoicing to the insurance company was handled in a proper and timely manor. In fact, JS Construction Consultants went above and beyond to facilitate the insurance company approving additional items for the homeowner. We had a third party, Pella Windows, meet us at the property with the insurance adjuster to help the homeowner get several windows approved for replacement. These additional items were supposed to be installed by Pella, with JSCC as the General Contractor, however, the homeowner decided to not have us do the work as previously agreed. In closing I will say that even though there were some minor issues during the project (which happen in the construction industry)all issues were addressed and fixed. The homeowner received quality workmanship and a quality warranty. In my opinion, an F grade on the review of this project is completely out of line considering how the project went and everything the homeowner received."
Fantastic!! Job site was completely taped off. Tarp placed around exterior of home. When old roofing was taken off it went either into a truck immediately or on the tarp placed around the home. Once new roof was put they came with blowers to pick up all debris. Clean up was as if they had never even been there. Only indication was the new roof!! Also, they completed job in one day. Highly recommend. I have seen their other work such as old siding taken off and new siding put on. Same applies.
I am also going to have them paint my home as I was so happy with the experience and the professional job they did.
Would recommend to everyone to call them for a estimate!!!
