Essential Extras, Inc. creates unique outdoor spaces and structures such as screened porches, gazebos, pergolas, shade arbors, and custom fencing and privacy screening. Designs and projects often include landscaping, hardscaping, and low voltage lighting. We design to match the scale, look, style, and flow of the existing area. Our full portfolio has thousands of pictures of our decks, pergolas and other projects. We use many different railing and decking materials–mostly woods, plastics, composites and aluminum. We do most types of residential remodeling from small repairs to major projects like room additions and basement refinishing. Our process begins by determining the function or desired end result. Then we work back to the physical project so that our designs integrate the rationale, the physical setting, and our clients' taste. We strive to be truly custom and creative. No two people or projects are alike. Essential Extras, Inc. easily accommodates unusual projects, situations, and unique custom original designs. We make interior, exterior, added, or remodeled space blend into existing space structurally, functionally, and aesthetically–we make it look like it "belongs". Depending on your preference, we offer design and plans service, construction supervision, design/build agreements, or complete turnkey service.

Terry was very informative and provided lots of input during the initial design process to help us determine the best use of our space. He is very thorough and kept us informed during the construction process. Marty, is a great installer and was very tidy and meticulous with his work. Jeff from Monarch Concrete is great to work with as well. His team did a great job forming our new concrete patio and finishing it. We love our new deck and patio and would recommend Terry and his team at Essential Extras to anyone who needs this type of installation.

Terry and his team were great to work with. They installed a new deck onto the back of my house and it looks fabulous! The price was reasonable and the quality is excellent! Plus they did some additional repairs on my screened in porch. I would highly recommend them!!

In 2004, Terry DeFraties of Essential Extras designed and constructed a new deck and pergola for us. We were interested in using a sustainable long lasting wood product. Terry and crew had just begun installing Ipe (Brazilian hardwood). Terry was receptive to our ideas and expanded on our requests. The outcome was a well designed unique deck that is still in great shape today. When requested, Terry inspects the deck and his crew does appropriate maintenance. In 2020, we renovated our lower level that had not been updated in thirty years. Terry presented a redesigned kitchen/bar that maintained the original footprint but reorganized the space in much better way. He co-ordinated his staff and sub contractors during the entire renovation process. I used the companies he suggested for the design elements of the project- cabinetry and counter tops, flooring and plumbing fixtures. Our downstairs area is now a comfortable and very usable living space while adding 1400 square feet of value to our home.

Essential Extras had already designed and installed a beautiful deck for us. They used Ipe wood and hidden fasteners as we had asked. The professionalism was amazing and so was the craftmanship. After a wind storm blew down a fence in our yard in the middle of winter I called them again and not only did they do a stellar job, but took great care to respect our neighbors and cleaned up our side and the neigbor's side of the fence as well. The craftmanship again was better than expected. I would recommend them to anyone and definitely hire them for any projects I might have involving wood. Bonnie Pearson

I was told by Terry, the owner, that he couldn't design the actual plantings for my yard and would need to bring another company in to do that. I was put off for months before I got tired of waiting and asked Angie to refund my money. Unfortunately company policy only extends refunds in the first 30 days. Angie's List will put my money towards another service, but this is what I really need help with. What a disappointment!

Set up an appointment for Terry De Fraties to come on out a Sunday afternoon to look at the project. I gave him my cell phone number so he could call if he was going to be late as he said was coming from another small project and we had things we wanted to do, We waited all afternoon and he never called and never showed up. Haven't heard from him since. During our initial conversation he asked how I heard about them as "they spend thousands on advertising." His company would be better served if he provided good customer service to compliment the advertising.

Terry initially did the design of the backyard and steps involved to remodel/landscape the project quickly and was done well. He is very polite, but he did not complete all of the work. We were committed to also adding fencing, an electric gait and minor other issues that never were completed or ordered. For a month, when the weather was cooperating and work could have been completed I had no contact with him and then when we told him how we needed a timeline to complete the project, he provided one, but I did not hear from him again. Eventually we terminated our services with him by email and I left him a voicemail, but he has never acknowledged those. The quality of the work done on the stairs/fencing/swing set/slide were all excellent. The problem was following through with certain expectations to complete the work and when those fell through either because of weather or a month or so of no contact when the weather was not an issue, led to us feeling we couldn't continue. I liked working with Terry, the price was good but I wouldn't do so again.

The consultation was fine. He specializes in pergolas and gazebos and we were looking for landscaping to create a more private area around our pool. He brought in a landscaper for me who he works with to give me a quote. He gave us a lot of tips about the pool we plan on installing and the landscaping we want done around it.
