The first impression you will have of the gym is that it feels a bit grungy. It is older, the equipment is older, the walls are scuffed etc. You aren't going to feel like you are at a day spa at this gym.
However, it is a great place to work out. They have a good variety and quantity of cardio and weight equipment as well as several stretching areas and a pool. They have two rooms for classes - one for spinning and one for other classes. I have attended several different classes regularly and have found that the instructors are generally knowledgeable and enthusiastic and I enjoy the classes. I also used a personal trainer there for a while and thought he did a good job.
I also use the child care and have found it to be pretty good. It isn't fancy but they have plenty of toys including a climbing structure. They usually play a video. The staff who work in the Kids Club are almost all very friendly and seem to be nurturing toward their charges. I really appreciate the security procedures they have in place at the Kids Club - you sign your child in and out using your fingerprint which means no one can ever take your child; they only allow one family in the lobby area at a time to reduce confusion, they do not change diapers, which eliminates a whole category of potential abuses; and I've been told there is a video camera in the room as an extra precaution.
There are fancier gyms around but I haven't found anything that offers the same services for a comparable price.
The facility is generally well-equipped with a large quantity of cardio and weight machines. I find that it is sometimes lacking in the smaller types of equipment that the personal trainers often use (things like kettlebells or medicine balls or very small weights). The equipment is not new but it is functional and items that break are repaired quickly. The gym also has two group fitness rooms, a pool and a basketball court.
I've been very happy with my experiences with personal training and group exercise, finding all the instructors competent and good at motivating me to try new things and push myself. They offer a wide variety of class types.
My 1 year old son goes to the Kids Club often. While the personalities in there can fluctuate, I feel he is always looked after and is safe. The club has a number of policies to ensure safety such as no diaper changes by staff, must show ID to sign a child in and out, same person must sign child in and out and the interior of the room is filmed by security cameras. It is also visible from the workout floor so you can peek in and see your kid.
The staff is friendly and the manager has been receptive to my suggestions when i have them.
The facility seems a bit grimy to me, the water in the fountains isn't very cold and all but one of the overhead speakers seem to be broken, but these downsides don't matter to me. I figure that I would rather pay $25 for a grimy gym that provides all I need than $80 for a fancy gym that provides the same thing.
They are located 15 minutes from where I live. I have a membership through another provider. The staff is pleasant, but they are routinely busy. Their parking isn't the best, and they don't always have all of their equipment in service. I have never had a trainer there and haven't had much interaction with the trainers there. My wife's sister was a former trainer at this fitness center. She left because she had some issues with the management. The frequency of their e-mail process of informing me of the points is not that great. I still have more than a year left on my membership.
