Born Electric Inc.

I used Born Electric for a relatively small job. The work by Mr. Born’s associate seems to be fine. My problem with Mr. Born stems from overcharging. When Mr. Born came to do an estimate (which was free as were the other estimates I received), I believed Mr. Born to be honest and upfront. We were told that he charged 80 - 82 dollars per hour and that the work would entail at least one day, possibly running into a second day. When I received Mr. Born’s proposal. it was for the total job, not broken down into the specific detail (per job). The main part of the job would be to run a dedicated line from the basement to our living room. When I asked Mr. Born on the phone why he was not charging me by the hour (and additionally for parts) he told me he charges what’s most advantageous to the customer. When the associate came he did all the work excluding two jobs. He did not run a dedicated line (just changed the outlet to GFCI) as I did not need a dedicated line. All the work was done in a span of 4 hours (actually less as Mr. Born’s associate was outside for a bit). The parts that were used were at most $110 (based on Home Depot Prices). Mr. Born credited me a $150 although he himself said that the dedicated line alone would take about 4 hours. In essence, Mr. Born gave me a credit of $150 for a job that should have cost me $320, but which wasn’t done. Mr. Born also did not do the grounding of the gas pipe which he was included in his bid. He gave me a credit me for $100. Mr. Born explained that electricians don’t do this type of work. As a licensed and experienced electrician I wonder why Mr. Born included this job in his bid that he wouldn’t do? To summarize: while the work that was done seems to be quality work, Mr. Born way overcharged according to the information he provided me (about $200 after the credits he gave me). Additionally, why did he bid on a job that he claimed afterward is not in an electrician’s purview. For these reasons I am giving my experience with Born Electric a rating of 1. Please be very careful of what Mr. Born tells you at the time of estimate as opposed to what he actually charges.

Born Electric arrived each day 15 minutes early and ready to work. Each of their crew members knew their job and went right to work. I have used Born in the past for other jobs and have always been pleased, but I was there a lot of the time on this job. I couldn't help notice that they were not just doing the job but were taking steps to make sure it was done neatly. When it comes to plumbing and electrical work, doing work neatly doesn't just gain points with me but also with the County Inspectors. Born gets my highest recommendation.

Born was a subcontractor on our basement remodel. I must say, I was thoroughly disappointed in the work done. Small details were overlooked, wrong light switches were used, lights were left unwired. It was the only problem I had throughout this entire process. I will not use or recommend them ever again. My contractor is also aware of my less than pleased review of them.(this was part of a $30,000 remodel project)

They were great! Fast, on time and straight forward. Will hire again.

We used Kemper Plumbing to install a water softener, but we needed an electrical outlet to power the control module of the water softener.   Kemper recommended Born Electric.   They showed up promptly, installed the electrical outlet within a couple of hours.   Everything was handled professionally.

Born performed their work very smoothly and professionally with no glitches or errors.

Born Electric has done multiple jobs for us since moving into our house. They are quick, efficient, courteous and priced competitively. Also, every person who has come to our house has been more than willing to indulge all of my questions. :)

I'd say they were above average. One of the fixtures, after they left, I noticed is a little crooked. It wasn't so bad that I needed to call them back. I didn't notice it actually, my neighbor noticed it. Also we found out after they were gone that a switch that they were not even involved with that used to turn our Christmas tree on and off doesn't do that anymore. They had to change around some things on a switch on the wall on the other side, we think when they did that it caused the other switch not to work. I never called them on it because the only time we ever use that switch is when we plug the Christmas tree in. If I had caught them while they were here then I would drawn their attention to it, but it wasn't big enough to call them back. The reason I went with them is because I saw them and their rating on Angie's List. Also the lighting center that I bought the fixtures from gave me a list of electricians and they were on it. They also gave me a nice discount, I told the owner I was an Angie's List member and he gave me even more of a discount than the members were supposed to get.

They're a great company. Some of their younger electricians are not as polished as they could be. But overall Kevin Born makes sure that the job gets done right. We've used them again and again for big jobs and small.

They were the subcontractors for the electrical job when we were getting our kitchen remodeling done. I really appreciated the fact that the owner didn’t pressurize us to change our electrical box since we didn’t have any problems with it. He asked us if we would in the future go from media room to downstairs. He told us that we could get away with the smaller box but he said that we could even think about upgrading to bigger ones. That’s when he asked us to Google in order to check about the old ones we had. Apparently there weren’t any problems. However, after looking at the electrical newsletters, it sounded like it could be the cause of a fire. We were really glad that he brought that up since it wasn’t his area of expertise. I feel good that our house is safe even though we had to spend a lot. He was really good about not pressurizing us. I would use their services in the future too.

They were very prompt and reliable. They had a few mistakes in their work but they came back out right away to fix them. Their prices were reasonable, as well.

It was an excellent experience. They came out on time. They did the work quickly. They did a great job of cleaning up after themselves. It was as if they hadn't even been here. The workers were polite and friendly. The quality of their work was very good.

VERY GOOD. WHEN THEY MADE AN APPOINTMENT THEY WERE HERE. THEY COMPLETED THE JOB.
