Bob's A-1 Retaining Walls

Where do I begin with this nightmare of a project. My husband went to the home show downtown to specifically look for a concrete company. He found two that we received bids from and we decided on Bobs A1. They weren't our lowest bid as we do not always go with the lowest bid but by references and looking at previous work. During our consultation before the work began we talked with Bob and Colleen about doing curved corners on our patio and a curved step. They assured us that this would be no problem and would look great. They assured us that they would not finish until we were pleased. So we signed the contract. They tore out the old patio and pavers well. They stacked the old pavers on a pallet as they said they would and this part of the project went well. Then came the framing for the new patio. It had square corners. We called Bob and he and Colleen stopped by to look at it while their men were still working. My husband met with them to discuss the framing and how we wanted it along with some other technical issue on drainage, etc. The main guy who does the concrete work tore out the framing for the step and said they did a poor job in framing that out. The next day the concrete was poured and stamped. There were no curves that match anything that we were shown on their pictures or viewed at other projects. One curve has a corner on it. Another curve is not in the proper location and really isn't a curve as it has "waves" on the edge and is not a clean curve. The expansion joints are too wide and some of the top concrete is chipped. The vinyl siding at the patio door is damaged (less than a year old). Over pour and gravel left for us to clean up. Some of the edges of the concrete are unfinished. They chewed up the concrete at the curb of our driveway. Bob said he would pour a slab for us that our garden hose sits on the side of the patio. It took them 4 times to pour this to get it right. On the last attempt Bob said he would pour it himself but instead sent one of his flunkies to do it. I emailed Bob my concerns after looking the patio over and he said he would stop by to discuss. I stayed home from work that morning and was told Colleen would be there between 10 -10:30. They did not show up until 11:00 and I was pulling out of the driveway. No phone call or anything to tell me they were running late. I did discuss all of our issues and the only thing they would correct is the clean up of the gravel and concrete over pour. Bob did say he would fix the threshold at the patio door but no one has been by to fix it. He said the curve with the corner is because his material would not hold the shape. And the location of the other curve they said my husband approved which is not true. It's in the general location but my husband would not approve where they put it because he wanted that area for his BBQ equipment. They discussed the curves but nothing was framed out for us to approve before the pour. As far as the curve with a corner we should have gotten a phone call to tell us the material was failing so we could make another decision. There was no phone call-just came home to a curve with a corner. He would not address the poor expansion joint cuts. They would not address the curve in the wrong location-because my husband approved it-which he did not-and they would not address the quality of the curve. Even if it was in the wrong place it should look good but looks horrible. The entire patio needs to be torn out and re-poured. Bob and Colleen are very good at misrepresenting their company and quality they bring to the table. We were told they would take care of all of our concerns and make sure we were happy at the completion of the job. Also they do not know how to estimate a job properly. When presented with the final bill it was$400-$500 higher than quoted. The explanation is that they had to rent a machine to tear out the old patio. Again, we should have gotten a phone call at that point telling us of the problem they ran into....NO PHONE CALL. Also the stamping was not consistant along the side of the house and again they had a bogus excuse. Before we agreed to go with Bob we were shown all kinds of pictures of previous jobs-many with curves and looked at complete projects in the area. Now I doubt if these projects were completed by Bob. If you want to waste your good hard earned money go ahead and use Bob's A1. I personally would run as far as I can from this company.
