We were thrust into getting this service because a tree fell and ripped the power lines off of our house and damaged the original wooden mast. Neither Ameren or myself felt comfortable hooking the power up the way it was previously (this was the original construction from 60 years ago). The situation was so uniquely problematic, we were forced to get permits and essentially treat this project as if it were a new construction. We were without power for over a month due to the difficulty of getting companies to bid the project and the changes Ameren had to make to the surrounding power poles to accommodate our situation. Additionally during this time period, several severe storms hit the area, causing many people to be without power at various times and further delaying progress to be made on our home. Since in our neighborhood we were the only house affected, we were not as high on Ameren's priority list. The experience with Albrecht was a mixed bag. We decided to go with Brandon because he was local, priced competitively, and seemed like a really likable guy. (I still think he is a nice guy, by the way). From the initial visit, he seemed to really know his stuff and was confident that he would be able to rectify our problem. Scheduling was a bit more troublesome than I had thought it would be, but when the appointment was finally ironed out, Brandon and his assistant were there on time to start the work. Unfortunately, they did not have the right tools for all aspects of the job and had to go home to charge batteries frequently to drill all the holes necessary to run my new service wire. (A generator or vehicle power adapter for locations without any electricity on would have been advisable). The work progressed quickly and efficiently once the necessary holes were drilled. My main concern with the work came after the fact. Several problems existed once the project was completed. Parts were missing from the power panel and several of the wires were not connected cleanly, resulting in an unsafe situation within the electrical box. After consulting with a family friend who is a union electrician (and was going to help me update some other wiring in the house not connected to this issue), I decided to raise several of my more intense concerns with Brandon. He came back and inspected the work, and on most counts agreed that it was finished improperly. After waiting an additional week and a few phone calls, he returned to fix most of the concerns that I had raised, but, for several issues, defended the work, and dismissed my concerns out of hand. Admittedly, I am not an experienced electrician, but when other electricians refuse to help me with another project because they are scared of how something has been connected by the contractor before them, I tend to worry. My family friend rectified the remaining issues for me, but this was something that I shouldn't have had to do to begin with. (And before you ask, my family friend's work does not allow their electricians to do "side work" or pull permits, otherwise he would have been doing this work from the beginning). In fairness, his assistant was the one who hooked up much of what later became an issue, however I was (and still am) concerned that Brandon did not verify the work his assistant completed before wrapping up the project. I also later discovered that the way in which the new steel mast and guy wire was secured to the roof was pulling up on the roofing itself and that the flashing was not secured properly (I never contacted Albrecht about this particular issue because the way it was originally installed was so bad, I decided to fix it myself). I understand that this project was a challenge and Albrecht likely underbid the work that was to be done, causing frustration and a desire to just be done. Still, none of that is an excuse to cut corners and/or fail to double or triple check ones work, particularly when dealing with something that could burn down my house. Brandon appreciated that I contacted him and allowed him to fix the issues left after the work was completed, rather than blasting Albrecht online or calling the BBB. I'm sure Brandon and Albrecht Electric are perfectly competent and capable when it comes to minor electrical work, but this project seemed to be a bit more complicated for them. I will be looking elsewhere for any electrical work requiring a permit that is to be done in the future.
