Tony Lee Construction Inc
About us
Tony Lee Construction opened it's doors for business, January 1, 1990 as a carpenter/subcontractor, employing 3 carpenters. Since then our growth has enabled us to employ up to 80 carpenters as well as an administrative staff. In the beginning, our main business was carpentry work on residential homes. We are proud to say we have become one of the most respected residential & commercial contractors in the St. Louis Area. While we still do carpentry work for some of the leading builders & developers in the area, over the years our operation & services have grown to include general contracting, site development & construction management. We are able to handle any job large or small. From minor carpentry work such as adjusting a door in your home, to adding a room addition, building your custom home or the development & building of a commercial project. Our company & employees are fully insured, which includes general liability & workman's compensation insurance. Tony Lee Construction's carpenters are proud members of the Carpenter's District Council of St. Louis. We pride ourselves with a standard of excellence in completing our projects on time and within budget. Our main goal is the satisfaction of our clients.

Tony was absolutely wonderful about communicating with us and supervising the work at our house. He came by almost every day (maybe every day?) to see how things were going. He answered phone and email questions promptly. He had great communication with his men, so things were done exactly as they were supposed to be done and exactly when he said they would get done.
Tony was a little more expensive than our other bid, but it is honest pricing. My understanding is that extra expense arises because he hires union carpenters, but (based on our experience with our other contractor), it is worth every penny. Tony's men really knew what they were doing. With some other companies we have dealt with, I have found that the higher up people seem knowledgeable, but then the people who actually do the work are disappointingly ignorant. Tony's company is not like that. Tony's guys worked efficiently and got the job done, with high-quality results and according to schedule.
Tony was always up front, organized, honest, and doing what he could to make sure the job was done right. At one point, he even took care of several little details himself (laying down some plastic we had asked for to protect our basement, taking care of a gap in the wall, and a hole in the wall that the electrician left).
As mentioned above, our project involved obtaining City of Kirkwood building permit (which is very tricky these days!), but Tony was organized enough and detail-oriented enough to get this done with hardly a hitch.
Tony and his guys also helped us deal with many difficult surprise issues, a few of which I list here:
1) The electrician that our kitchen installer hired knocked huge holes in one of our masonry walls and compromised its structural integrity. Tony met with the engineer with me to find out how the masonry should be repaired and implemented repairs in a timely fashion so the project could proceed.
2) We needed part of the drywall completed early so we could celebrate the holidays. (It's a long story, but we had to have that part of the wall done so we could accommodate holiday guests ). Tony had the drywaller come in early to do that part. It cost extra, but it was Tony that made it happen, when some other contractors we've dealt with might not have been organized enough to do so.
3) When we removed soffits from the old kitchen, there huge gaping holes in the wall. Tony suggested a solution: putting sheets of drywall over the whole wall. Again, it cost extra, but it is worth it having an intact wall behind our cabinets and knowing that we won't be having mice coming in that way. The especially nice part is how he consulted with us about how we wished to proceed. He suggested the drywalling option and explained its benefit, but left it up to us whether to go the nicer way or the cheaper way.
4) The architect's plans ended up having the tops of the new windows too low. Tony's guy named Dwayne recognized this and did the framing in such a way that he could ask me if I wanted the new windows to match the old windows or the architects drawing without losing time in construction. He paid similar attention to detail with the new doorways. (Like I said above, it was totally worth the extra money hiring Tony instead of the less expensive contractor for this job.)
Tony really knows his stuff. He is professional, polite, and honest. The guys that work for him that we met were great too. We will definitely be asking him to help us with future projects, and we recommend him highly.
