Kelvin Samlalsingh sold my son a car for $5200. From the start he didnt hesitate to tell me how great his cars were & how he was a great business & he bought cars & fixed them up. Even when I said that was good we would have somewhere to bring the car for repairs he said we wouldnt have to do that b/c his cars were so good. He even took us into the garage & showed us the cars he was working on and it was here I looked him in the eye in the garage at this time asking him if I bought the car we were looking at if it was a good, solid, safe car b/c this was my son we were talking about. He assured me it was a great car & I would be very happy. We bought the car & immediately had problems. The day after bringing it home I called b/c we had a leak & worse than that when we looked under the car to see where it was coming from we realized the bottom passenger side floorboard was rotted out. This was a 2005 & I didnt expect this. He was apologetic & offered to fix the leak, but kind of skimmed over the floorboard saying he didnt know what he could do about that. After a conversation & him getting the car to repair the leak he agreed to "split" the cost if his buddy did the repair b/c he could do it for a few hundred. He told me that if I thought he was going to put a bunch of money into repairing this car I was wrong. When he fixed the leak he said it was the power steering pump & that he used used parts to fix it. After we got it back we also realized that the floor mats were only on the passenger side front & back. When we lifted them up there was no carpet & mats had been covering this. When Kelvin saw this he tried to tell my son that he thought there was carpet there it looked like a stain! The carpet had been cut out!
He was going to contact his buddy & we said we wanted to do the repair before he left the country for a month. We did not hear from him & in the meantime the car started acting up. when my daughter & son dropped it off & he told my son they could take it for a spin to see what is going on. He drove fast up the road & hit the brakes sharply which my son thought odd. When he did this the oil light came on (never had before & never has since). Then he said it looked like there was no oil. He then razzed my son like it was his fault. My son said he had not even had it long enough to drive it more than a couple of times & he didnt check it b/c Kelvin told us he changed out all the fluids etc. He quickly corrected my son & said he never said that-he only tops off fluids when he buys the cars. That IS NOT what he told us. My son said there is no oil in the car so even if he topped it off where was it? Kelvin gave him a pat on the back & said he would take care of him this time & give him a free oil change, but He charged us for the oil change!
we get the car back & have had enough dealings w/this guy to see that he is not consistent with what he says. I got a call a few days later from my son the oil is once again gone from the car & we realize the engine is likely shot. I sent Kelvin a text & got no reply. This was a few days b4 he was leaving the country & while he was gone we had the car looked at by a legitimate mechanic.
We had $1344 in repairs including replacing 2 wheel bearings 1 of which was loose & SHOULD NEVER HAVE PASSED INSPECTION, not to mention DANGEROUS!
Oil leaking into spark plug holes & valve cover replaced, gasket & seals replaced.
Suspected engine problems so we tried a flush, they removed oil, replaced filter & full gallon fluid (hmm one would think some of this would have been done when we got the FREE oil change we paid for?)
Also-they found the rack & pinion steering seeping on right boot-ANOTHER BIG FAIL ON INSPECTION THAT SHOULD NOT HAVE PASSED, power steering flush (so was the power steering pump bad the first time we took it in or was it this?) Additional $825.42 to repair
So to date we have $5200 into purchase of car, plus sales tax & licensing. We have about $1500 in repairs and FREE oil change & need to fork out another $825 for rack & pinion repair & pretty sure the engine is no good.
Kelvin gave us an inspection that said it passed. The wheel bearings were dangerous & DO NOT PASS and the rack & pinion problem DOES NOT PASS so ....
My son has a new job & an unreliable car thats worthless not to mention he is crushed by this experience. Kelvin knows this was all the money this kid had in the world yet his representation of this car was more than just a bit off. It is completely unacceptable on many levels.
I have given more than the benefit of the doubt & have been more than patient w/this man & he does not even reply which says quite a lot unfortunately. This prompted me to move forward in reporting to the proper authorities & to do some digging. It did not take long to find out that others have similar stories. If you go to Merchant Circle & look under Street Speed you will find these reviews.
