General Remodeling
Contractor did not finish one part of his scope. Did the demo and destroyed my house. Did not clean up after work and spend over a full month to not even complete 15% of what he told me would be done in 3 weeks. James Shafer is the owner and is a one man show. The drywall work he part did I had to have another company come in and fix and costed me more than what he quoted. The back splash work he did he attempted to rewire an electrical box that then caused the kitchen to have a grounding issue and had to have an electrician repair and costed me more again. The tile on the back splash was set but slit down the wall making no room for grout and he did not even attempt to grout. I had to hire another company to finish grouting and clean up the adhesive that James left stuck to everything including the new counter tops that I had installed just before he attempted to install tile on back splash. He did not complete hanging any part of the baseboard or painting any part of the house accept the basement 2 rooms ceilings. The 2 rooms in the basement ceiling he "hired" someone (off Craigslist) to help him paint and told us that he was a neighbor and he worked with him before. The "hired" help then informed me that he was hired on craigslist, never worked with him before, and later called to tell me that he did not get paid for the work he completed by James and glad he walked away after only two days because he had a suspicion that he would not get paid. Keep in mind I also had my stay and home wife at the house and my 4 year old and 8 month old kids when he brought this complete stranger into our house and lied to us about who he was. The kitchen cabinets also costed us more to have completed then what he quoted us and he sanded the cabinets down to far. He made a wine rack for us to go over the refrigerator that would match the kitchen cabinets that end up not fitting over the refrigerator between it and the ceiling and had to be re-modified. The remainder of the work not discussed here he did not do even do, though 40% down payment just happen to cover the breakouts he showed us accept painting the house. Also keep in mind that the price he gave us did not include materials and that I paid for all the materials separately on-top of the 40% down payment. I would never recommend using Artistic Works or James Shafer to preform work in your house. He will destroy it make promises he can not keep and mislead you through the entire process.
