We still needed to have repairs made to the interior of the house. Another representative from ONWAY came out to look at the damage in the bathroom and bedroom. He set up a time for a repair crew to complete the interior work.
We had received our claim payment from the insurance company and ONEWAY had accepted the check. Our insurance coverage has a cash replacement clause which would send supplemental payment after giving an itemized list of materials and labor costs. ONEWAY was aware of this requirement when the repair crew came to complete the work in our bathroom and bedroom.
When the crew came out they first worked on the bedroom. The list from our insurance company included replacing ceiling tiles and painting the ceiling and walls. The tiles were replaced that had fallen or were discolored except for one discolored tile. The crew then put on one coat of paint on the ceiling, but did not paint the walls. The discolored tile could still be seen after one coat.
Then the crew went into the bathroom. The repair estimate included taking down a section of dry wall and replacing it, plus painting the ceiling and walls. The crew did not take down the damaged dry wall, but instead put up a coat of KILZ paint and left. They did not clean up the tub where they had stood with dirty shoes and did not ask us to check their work. They just left. While they were painting in the bathroom we heard them whispering quite a bit.
After they left, I called the insurance adjuster and asked him what I should do because the repairs were not completed as per the estimate given. He said that the replacement cost check would not be given unless they gave an itemized list of what they ACTUALLY performed. He also said that he was in contact with ONEWAY and would attempt to resolve the situation.
A few days later the second representative from ONEWAY called me. He wanted to know if we had received the supplemental check for the cash replacement costs. I told him what had happened when the repair crew came out and told him the insurance company needed a list of repairs actually completed. He stated that they had completed what was on the list! Then he asked me if I had any idea when we might receive the supplemental check. I repeated that ONEWAY needed to do all the repairs and give proof of completion to the insurance agent.
Then a few days later a person from ONEWAY called and asked me if I had received a check from the insurance company. I repeated to her what I had been told by our insurance adjuster. That was the last I heard from them.
Our bathroom ceiling still shows stains from the water damage and the bedroom ceiling over the one damaged ceiling tile is still obviously discolored. No one ever came out to correctly replace the ceiling drywall or paint the rooms as stated on the repair estimate.
If we only had needed the roof done, I would have been quite happy with what ONEWAY accomplished. However, their poor repair of the interior rooms was incomplete at best and I'm very upset that a company which uses the Christian logo would treat customers the way we were.
I would not recommend this company, especially if you are using an insurance claim to complete the work.
Chris Brennnan was the sales person and project manager. He educated us on the pros and cons of different roofing material. He was highly professional, proactive in his communication of when the job would start, what his crew was doing, any unique issues that needed my input. There were no surprises in the final price from the bid price. There were additional charges, but those were expected, such as plywood replacing. They were forthcoming about these and where unexpected expenses exceeded the contract they did the right thing and did not charge me for those.
The crew worked diligently and took extreme care in getting the job done right. What was to take 2 days took almost 4. They did not rush or sacrifice quality. The crew all knew what they werre doing and the crew chief, Jamie, had a plan that they executed with great competence.
I could not have asked for a better experience. I highly recommend them.
"We do understand this customer had issues with her job. However, when those issues came to our attention, we did everything in our power to solve them. We had upper management go out to her home and address her concerns. From there, we fixed everything she voiced problems about and even gave her a substantial discount on her job to apologize for her issues with ONEWAY. When we were finished with the customer's job and had fixed all problems associated with it, we met with her again and she was completely satisfied not only with the work, but with the discounts she received. Furthermore, she signed a release stating that she was happy with the work ONEWAY completed and that there was nothing further regarding this job that needed to be done. This review came as a surprise since she was so happy in the end. We are aware there were issues that arose regarding her siding. However, it was very difficult to find matching siding and was not an easy process. We did everything possible to make this customer satisfied, which she was in the end."
them and was very satisfied. The project manager was very nice and professional. My insurance company agreed to the roof replacement but only wanted to do partial siding replacement because the hale damage was only on the back and side of my house.
I had steel siding which could not be matched and agreed to go with vinyl siding in order to get my choice of color and style. The project manager went to bat for me to get the best grade of siding which had to be special ordered since it isn't normally stocked.
They replaced my shutters and put on new light fixtures I had purchased.
The purpose of the lower rating in punctuality was that the start date was a day later than promised.
I had told them, before anyone comes over, that I have two pit bulls & that I didn't want anyone there without me being there & that they should call me before anyone comes over. One of them is trained specifically for protection & attack if necessary so it this was very important instruction to follow. I come home to find a bunch of material stacked on my roof. I didn't receive a call for this delivery - They said they'd used a ladder from the alley to reach the roof.
They said they'd start Friday morning that they'd call before they showed up. Come Friday, no one showed up or called. I finally got a hold of someone after two or three calls & they said they couldn't find my address! Someone found me to drop off the materials! I feel like they blew me off for another job. They said they'd make it Monday instead. They showed up Saturday - unannounced, no call, no nothing! If the dogs had been home & anyone had been in the backyard they would've been attacked by the dogs protecting my home. They also set off my alarm. I got a call from the alarm company saying that the sensor had been set off in the garage. My wife turned off the alarm.
They made a huge mess. I'd purchased tarps to make sure that their mess wouldn't cover my garage & yard - my car, tools, workbench, shelves. All inside my garage was a mess because they didn't let me know they were coming - grit, dirt, & roofing material in the garage & lite debris in the yard! I have no idea how they got so much junk in the garage. It took me 2 days of thorough cleaning & I'm still finding grit & dirt from their work in my garage. They set the alarm off a second time as well. The alarm was set off when they broke a basement window by dropping a tool.
Dropping a tool is understandable, but that was the least of the problems. They didn't do what they said they'd do. I feel they lied to me & didn't follow through on anything they said they would. They never really told me what they'd be charging me. While I was trying to work things out with my insurance company over the awning portion of the bill, they just started working on the roof. I got a bunch of subcontractors who didn't speak English that left junk everywhere. The biggest mess was inside - I ended up having to pay hundreds of dollars for clean-up in the garage.
The next Saturday people showed up during a barbecue, completely unannounced, saying they were supposed to be there to help with clean up. I told them to leave because I had no idea who they were & again they didn't bother to let me know they were coming - It was a miracle the dogs were in the house.
Most people give actual bids - They didn't. Most people call if they can't find the property - They didn't. I felt I was lied to numerous times. They didn't follow my instructions which were there for their actual safety. They offered me $50 off the deductible for my trouble. I said that I should be compensated for all of the extra money for clean up as well as all the trouble. They told me they don't work for the customer, they work for Jesus Christ. They started talking about religion & asked if I could simply forgive them. I told him religion had nothing to do with it! I can not believe this situation. I knew I wouldn't get that $50 check if I put in this review so I waited until I got it before contacting Angie's List. Avoid at all costs.
"We understand that the member is upset with the work we performed at his home recently. However, we have tried multiple times to rectify any wrongdoing the member feels we put him through. We would like to address his concerns in the following response. We were initially contacted by the member to give an estimate for a garage roof and patio cover. When we showed up on his property to perform an inspection, he informed us that he had an open insurance claim for metal awnings and asked if we would perform that work as well. We were then contracted by the member with a signed agreement to do all work on his home in accordance with his insurance scope of loss. Any funds used to pay for work would come directly from that settlement. We spent time negotiating a good price for him and even upgraded his roof vents at no additional charge. I informed the member that the production of his job would not begin for about two weeks. He was fine with this and he was informed by the supplier prior to delivery that his materials would be delivered. From the start of our work for the member, there was never any mention of his dogs. This review is the first we have heard of his concern regarding his pets. The work on his home was to begin on Friday. The crew lost direction on the way to his home and did not make it in time to begin the work. Therefore, the member was notified and the crew began work the next day, Saturday. We apologized for the inconvenience and there seemed to be no issue at this point. They completed the job in a few hours and no barbecue was taking place at the residence. We do understand that the member's garage got hit with some debris. The member called us irate about the dirty garage. So, we immediately apologized and sent a crew out to clean any mess that was left behind. However, the member refused to let them in to clean and asked that they leave. He then called our office again and complained about the mess even though we had tried to rectify the situation. Furthermore, the window that was broken by a falling tool was taken care of immediately at no cost to the member. I called the member after I heard he had not allowed the crew to clean up and offered a $50 settlement to help him with any cleaning fees he may incur. He accepted and said everything was fine. However, not soon after I spoke with him, the member called our office and spoke to our Business Manager and demanded $300 or he would complain to the BBB and Angie's List. We felt he was trying to take advantage of our good nature and simply extort us for more money. We did not give in to his threats and sent him the $50 check that we first agreed upon with him. Overall, we tried everything we could to make the member satisfied with our services. After handling his complaints multiple times, it became evident that he was out for money and not customer satisfaction. We made every effort to ensure his happiness with our work and realized in the end that he was after a financial settlement rather than accepting our numerous offers to complete the job to his full satisfaction. We do apologize that we did not remain on a good basis with the member as we do our other thousands of customers. Our A+ BBB rating and other wonderful Angie's list reviews speak to our strong customer service and workmanship. However, we do not believe in paying someone money when they threaten us in such a manner. It becomes a slippery slope and we wish to remain an honest, consumer-driven business rather than one that bribes its customers for good online ratings. We did ask the member for forgiveness and to let us rectify the situation, but never used our faith as an excuse for his satisfaction. We work for the consumer and their well-being at all times while keeping our Christianity in the forefront of our business practices. We wish the member the best with his future endeavors and hope to remain on civil terms with him in the future."
The crew supervisor touched base with us frequently, and made sure to get our approval for any changes. We always felt that we knew what was being done, and what was next in the plan.
The quality of the work was outstanding. The materials were just as described, and the craftsmanship was excellent.
I highly recommend this contracting firm.
