CARIBBEAN DESIGN REMODELING

Overall, if Larry had not hired Window World to do most of my windows, I believe I would have an even bigger issue.  He makes promises that he doesn't keep and he will never work on my house again.

BACKGROUND:  I hired A Caribbean Design of Hallsville, MO after a storm damaged my home in April 2011.  A neighbor had recently hired this company for major repairs and brought the owner over to meet me.  I checked him out with the BBB and found him to be unaccredited.  They had no active complaints though.  I requested a bid to repair my house because the owner agreed to work with my insurance company.  This was the biggest mistake I ever made.  ROOF:  I found it funny that A Carbbean Design showed up to start work at 10:30am on a 100+ degree day and then complained that it was hot. The roof was installed slowly.  At first I thought the roof looked good.  Upon closer inspection though, they hadn't sealed properly around the vents, some shingles were cracked, the drip edges looked wavy and the tar paper wasn't neatly trimmed.  I told them to fix these items.  They fixed everything but the sealant, stating it was done correctly.SIDING:  A Caribbean Design first hung vinyl siding using 1-1/2" nails that were too short to secure it to the walls. I woke up one morning to see an entire wall of siding blowing in the breeze. I was furious at this and forced a complete re-do.  The next issue was that every single utility box was hung crooked. They also scratched my one week old air conditioner and broke off a valve cap in the process and never fixed it like they were told. I found out after they left that some siding higher up was held in place by big-headed roofing nails hammered straight through the siding. They left dents in some pieces of siding. Other pieces didn't overlap properly.SOFFITS:  They then attempted to replace my soffits, but they turned out more wavy and wrinkled than when they arrived.  THE OWNER IN GENERAL:  Larry, the owner, did not supervise his employees, and only came around when I owed him money. I fired A Caribbean Design due to incompetency before the work was finished.  After receiving the final bill, I noticed that the owner tried to charge for jobs not performed and material he didn't use.  I called him out on it and he didn't know what to say.  He just took the bill back and placed it in his pocket.  I then told him what I was going to pay.  Not once did he apologize for anything that wasn't done correctly.THE WARRANTY:  Their workmanship came with a one year warranty, so when siding on a different wall began falling off during this period, I requested repairs via a letter sent by certified mail.  They received it, but there was complete silence.  The BBB then sent him two letters in an attempt to mediate the dispute.  He has ignored both of them.  Next stop:  St. Louis County Civil Court.  So glad I married a lawyer!  SUMMARY:  A Caribbean Design is a company unaccredited by the Better Business Bureau and run by a storm chaser.  They offer a tail-light warranty and nothing else.
