Both the install crew and the finish crew seemed always in a hurry. On the last day they left the French doors leading out to the back deck unlocked and ajar. Unfortunately, we were leaving early that morning for the airport. I was able to close the door from the outside, but because the finish was still wet/sticky, I could not lock the door. Our daughter traveled 40 minutes out of her way later that evening after work to lock the door.
I found two brush strands sealed in the finish when we returned home after a 4-day trip. As I stepped onn the transition piece from the living room to the basement stairs I heard a soft crack. Upon inspection I noticed the transition piece extended a full two inches over the first step. The next day I went to a local big box hardware/lumber store and purchased a two-by-two oak board to shape, stain, and install to support the transition piece.
I called Matt to express my concerns, again, about the quality of work and the obvious blemishes in the now finished flooring. I waited two weeks for him to respond hoping he would offer to fix at least some of the major blemishes. We noticed he had cashed our check toward the end of the two week and quot;graceand quot; period. It has now been three weeks and I am writing this review.
Very disappointed in the quality of material used and/or chosen by the install crew. I have to assume they had a selection from which to choose what to lay down. I am very disappointed in the business integrity of Matt not to stand by his workmanship.
In all honesty, I cannot recommend FPF Flooring, LLC. within the Kansas City and surrounding areas.
On the days that the actual work took place, they showed up on time, the owner worked with the crew...nice guy, knowledgeable and been doing this stuff for years. Everything went unbelievably well. Floors are stunningly beautiful.
Also, as a bonus, their price was very reasonable.....one of the cheaper bids that i received ( i got 5 bids). Usually the least expensive bid (or one of the cheaper bids) doesn't normally translate into the best job.......but this was the exception to the rule. We are going to do one more room in a few months and these are the folks we will use. If you are in the greater Kansas City area..........you can't beat these folks. Some of the other bids i received were astronomically high...and frankly i was a bid worried about the owners. Having done some research, the flooring business has it's share of less than ethical people.
One last thing.....most of the wood guys wanted at least half the money up front, then the remainder after installation (but before floors had been sanded and finished).......in other words, they wanted all of the money before job was done. These guys didn't ask for any money up front, but rather, half after installation and the other half when the job was completely finished. I don't know if this is their regular policy or if they just do it for people that they are confident won't stiff them.......but for whatever reason it gave me a much greater confidence level that they knew what they were doing.
By the way.........I had never met Matt prior to this experience........so he is not a friend of a friend, or family member.......nothing like that. This job was the first time i had ever met the guy.....and he and his crew did a heck of a job.
