Eric & his team are the BEST. 20 years ago while on a historic homes tour in Liberty the owner raved about one company of the 5 who’d inspected the problems in her oddly “ruin-ovated” home, & how it was the only one to figure out how to properly heat & insulate it. She raved about them. When asked who it was she said Kjelshus Energy, whom my GC had already recommended after working with them on many home improvements. All these years they’ve maintained my historic home too, & including improving the efficiency of a unit that was twice too big for the house & correcting flue & carbon monoxide issues. Eric is mechanically gifted & devoted to his craft. He teaches this trade all over the country & his entire team is knowledgeable & reliable. Kjelshus Energy cannot be beat!

He is wonderful and honest. He does what he says he will do. He fixes it right the first time. He fixed it in under an hour. He saved us from spending thousands of dollars because it was leaking into the ceiling.

They were topnotch. The cost was very reasonable. They explained in great detail what he was doing as well as the other services they offered. He went out of his way. I even asked him about an electrical concern and he addressed that even if he wasn't meant for that. He told us that it was a simple little thing and he told us what we could do. It was too cold at that time for him to do anything about it. They seemed to be very good. In fact, I told my husband that I think we found our new furnace people. He was very courteous. He was very thorough in what he was doing. He explained in detail what was going on with the furnace. If I asked him a question about it, he immediately looked and found the answer. He was very good. He shared information about other components of that service and looked a little bit at that. They still only charged us a very fair amount.

Our furnace had gone out March of 2012. I had called a reputable company, see my reviews, they had come out and fixed my furnace only to have it break again 2 weeks later. Well this kept happening over and over. They had me talked into a new furnace. Well they thought I was going with them, I instead bid it out. I got bids from 7 different companies. Well Eric Kjelshus was the last company. In fact, I had already called the company who would be installing the new furnace.
Well JR saved my life, not only was it a easy fix, the part was .80 cents. He charged me labor, but that was it. Fixed my furnace and it is still going. Worked all winter. And I am so thankful I found them. I will never ever ever ever use another company.
Don't think of using another company. These guys are honest and you absolutely can trust them.

Excellent service. They installed our heat pump five years ago, which came with a few years of Spring/Fall check-ups. I recently purchased their Peak Performance maintenance plan to continue the service. The company is pro-active and contacts me early in their scheduling process.
The techs who perform the service--either J.T. or Darrin--are communicative and helpful. This time, Darrin noticed that some wiring outside of the house became exposed to the elements during winter, and he fixed it. He also cleaned out the heat pump and replaced the air filters. He also checked on some additional work I'm thinking about having done and provided a binding estimate on the spot.
Well worth the money.

They were very professional and did a very thorough analysis of our energy needs. They sent us a multipage e-mail analyses that pointed out areas where we could save a lot of money. They originally did the audit back in December 2012 and we told them there wasn't any rush in getting back to us and they got back to us in February. We were in the middle of a family emergency and that took about three months to clear off and I couldn't get back to Eric to let him know what we wanted to do with the audit and they hadn't billed us because they're waiting to see what he wanted to do. Then we told them to go ahead and bill us and then we didn't pay them for another month. There wasn't any actual agreed upon amount at the time when the auditors performed, but Eric led as to believe that it wouldn't be over $400 and we had a bill for $600. So I called Eric up and he was okay with the $400. He also said that if we do business with him, he would knock that $400 off. He's very professional and he has all the necessary degrees and he is registered with the Energy Commission. He's easy to work with and his staff does a good job. He showed us on the audit that we will be able to save somewhere between $2000 to $3000 a year if we follow his guidelines.

I have used Eric Kjelshus's company for several years and they do very professional and personal work. Our furnace limped along for several years (originally installed when the house was built in 1975) and RJ would provide all of the options for me when it broke down. I was able to choose what I could afford at the time and know that it would work fine. Last year they replaced the furnace and I added an electronic air cleaner and a humidifier. Their work was done well and thoughtfully. Very professional.
This year, I purchased the maintenance plan for air cleaner, humidifier, furnace and air conditioner for $200 per year. It also provides discounts on repairs and materials.
This current visit was a maintenance call for the air conditioner and it turned out to have a very loose connection going into the house. He replaced the connection box that day and finished the rest of the maintenance. Cost of the fix was $160.

Overall okay. My impression of this company is that the auditor is over extended, by not keeping to timelines that are promised, not being thorough in reports and follow up. So far I have felt that I have not gotten my monies worth of service. Expertise and knowledge is there, but reliable is spottie.

It is always wonderful to work with Eric. I have a ground floor heat pump system and ground floor heat pumps are kind of odd ducks in the heating and cooling business so everybody cannot understand it and work on it. He is one of the better people in the town that does. It was tough that it took three days. His office is in Elk Grove. I called him the day that my furnace went out and he sent somebody over the next day to troubleshoot it. We thought that it was one thing but it ended up being some other thing which was pretty drastic. He was back the next day with two other people. When he figured out what it was and that it was going to be very involved he threw the people he needed to throw at it to get it done and it was not all his work that was holding it up. Since it was a ground floor heat pump some of the work needed to be done outside the house in digging up the ground loop. So, I had to get a backhoe operator out here and dig up some stuff before he could fix it. His guy came out and troubleshot it and figured out the problem. I called the company that ruptured the ground source heat pump loop. They sent the backhoe out to dig it up and expose it. He came out the next day to repair it. It was not that he was working too slowly but it was the type of repair that was not something where you could have all the parts on your truck. It was a tough job. I have used him for ten years and will continue to use him.

The work was completed in timely manner with little evidence of the work after it was completed. The site was cleaned and left the way the crew found it. The crew was pleasant and professional.

The bidding and scheduling process went off without a hitch. Eric is very knowledgeable and active in the local installers continuing-education classes from what I could gather from the web. The estimate was given after a home energy audit, and Eric did a good job of explaining the sizing of the a/c based on living area square footage and the age of the ducts (about 45 years old). And, the estimate came in at $1,200 less than the closest competitor; there were four bids in all.
On installation day, Eric and his crew came out on time and proceeded to remove the old a/c and furnace; the crew was respectful and diligent, answering any questions or addressing any concerns I had. The installation took longer than expected--the installers had to come back for a half-day of work the next day--and, luckily, it was cool for August. It turns out that a recall was issued by the manufacturer of the heat pump (Ruud), and Eric performed that maintenance excellently. The heat pump and back-up furnace have been stellar, the new system has been trouble-free for two years, and Eric more

He was very good and we never had any trouble with him. He showed up when he said he would even if it is a bad weather or whatever, he would show up whenever we had a problem. We have got a new air conditioner from another company and are under warranty with them so we are not using his services as of now. We used to pay him 135 dollars a year and that covered two visits. I think his prices were good.

My central air had not cooled well for a year or two. Kjelshus was the sticker on the unit, so I figured might as well call them. The tech came out and took some readings. Basically told me the system was working as designed. In my humble opinion, working as designed means the system can cool the house when it is 85 degrees out. Apparently not. The tech must have called back to home base 4 or 5 times during the visit...maybe legit but gave me the impression he didn't really know what he was doing. I got a bill for nearly $100, and no improvement in the system or advice on where to go from there. They never followed up, etc. Very, very mediocre service at best. I've since had the unit serviced by other organizations who seemed much more efficient to me.

I happened to catch the owner, Eric Kjelshus, on the phone at 4:59 PM as he was doing a training with his team. I explained I had no heat and he told me he would come by after work as soon as he could. He stopped by on his way home, diagnosed my problem, and fixed the issue. He was kind, professional, and extremely knowledgeable. He explained the problem as well as answered any questions I had in an understandable way. I trust Eric and will use his company for heating or cooling for as long as I am in the Kansas City area. Excellent service!

Unit and zoning never worked as promised it would. Kjelshus admitted the unit was too small for our house and this was the first house his zoning didn't work in. He had manufacturing company factory personnel in to look at it & they concluded the unit was switching to the low side to protect itself because the high side couldn't keep up. The zoning required a few holes to be made in the finished ceiling to be no more than 5-6" sq. What we got was 12 (14x14x24") holes. Many that have nothing going to them as their tech missed the ductwork. In 6/07,7/07,8/07 unit could not cool house. We were informed that the unit will shut itself off if it runs too long. The man didn't live up to his promise of correcting our cooling problem. He replaced our old ac with a very expensive system that is 1/2 of what is needed. I would not recommend this company or the manufacturing company and to date I still have an ac that doesn't cool my home.(9/28/07)

Started with a missed appointment. I had to leave work early, losing pay to meet them at my house. They didn't show. An hour later, I called and they told me they would call back with a reason no one showed up. Another hour passes and they call back saying that one of their techs called in sick. Understandable, happens to every company. The following day, they are late, but actually show up. He does an estimate and comes back with a $1,200 price tag for repairs. Told him we'd have to sit on this before moving forward. He gave me the bill for the estimate and left. My wife later called them and asked why they missed the first appointment, to which they responded, "sometime our computers just delete names." Interesting. Honesty isn't obviously their game. She then told them she was canceling the check. We later had another co. come out and did not charge for an estimate. They gave us a $500 estimate. Quite a difference. Needless to say we went to them. I could go on, more to the story...

"We are a bit confused by this review, because we were called out to service their air conditioner. However, while we were there we gave a bid for a new unit. In addition, the following year after the first air conditioner service appointment, we were called back to their residence on March 10, 2008 to diagnosis another problem with their air conditioner, and they paid another $89 diagnostic service charge."
