My house is 92 years old. My family has owned it for the last 80 years. Needless to say, there have been many changes in the old girl. It still had wood floors in the 50’s through 70’s as I was growing up here, and they were perfect. Sometime in the mid-70’s, carpet was installed, and dogs had messes, and kids had messes, and there were renters who just didn’t care. When I finally planned on installing laminate flooring, they pulled up the carpet and the floors were atrocious. There was a huge bare patch right in the middle of the living room, right down to splinters. And so many other stains, bare spots, and broken boards. The laminate installer said the floor could not be saved, as did another contractor. They both told me ripping up the hardwood and replacing, or carpeting again were my only solutions. I was heartbroken. I was so over vacuuming! Then a friend convinced me that if I found the right company, there was hope. So I called SVB Wood Floorings after just googling it. Their office staff was so helpful and caring right off the bat. They scheduled an appointment right away, instead of 4 to 6 weeks out. When Tim showed up at my house, I expected a head shake and a gasp, but he didn’t flinch. That’s good, I thought. Yeah, they could bring it back, they had seen much worse. That made me so happy! The estimate eventually came out to $200 LESS than the laminate flooring! Oh, heck yeah! So I started the process. And the kind office staff worked with this old lady to make it happen. Hannah and Christina were so wonderful to work with! They scheduled me right away, and were not annoyed with my questions. The crew showed up a day early, which is so much better than a day late! The men were super sweet, and smart, and I listened to them tell tales of other jobs they had been on, and felt really confident that I had chosen well. The floors were completed on time, well done, and beautiful. There was not a grain of sawdust in my house. I was amazed at the outcome. This company is absolutely the best, and I would (and have) recommended them. You will NOT be disappointed.

Excellent. SVB took care of everything. All the employees that came to the house were courteous and on time for each of the three work sessions. Very comfortable having them in the home. The floor looks great.

This company went above and beyond trying to make me happy. We had our hardwood floors stripped and re-surfaced in July 2014. After about 9 months of ware on this floor it continued to get worse. They contacted me, sent out a team from their company to take a look. They agreed to re-do the top coat. After that I still was not happy as I had chose the wrong shean. They were more than willing to come back out and re-do it again in a semi gloss.

Amazing!!! Can't say enough about these guys. Estimate was competitive, service faster than any other, quality of the work was great! They worked with me on scheduling and price since we had insurance settlement from Stanley steemer after they ruined them (another story) project done in 3 days. Always called ahead and we usually early! At my house at 7:30am and right to work! Awesome! My floors look amazing! Better than they ever have. It's been a hard couple months fighting SS while looking at my damaged floors. They got it done quickly and with expert care! Also NO DUST!!!! My home was cleaner after they left! I can't say enough. I will definitely use you again. I know this finish will last a long time so it won't be anytime soon! ;) THANK YOU!!!!

preperation was as promised...dust free.
employee's were professional and curtious.
BUT the product used to finish our flloors is NOT very durable.
We had our floors for 10  years and the product on it prior to this was at least more durable
than the product used by this company.

I thought the workers were all very good. The follow-up was not very good. The floors turned out really nice. The workers were wonderful. I had a little complaint and the follow-up person never came back but all the workers were really good and I wasn't going to go with them because I thought they were too expensive and he adjusted his price, which I thought was really good.

They did a pretty good job. Were a few things such as some stain on wall and trim not the best. Overall was satisfied. Don't think anyone else would notice.

The process went very smoothly and the end result was fantastic. The very professional crews came when they said they would and got done when they said they would. The whole floor looks great! I could not be happier with the quality of the job SVB did. And, their "dustless" system was just that -- I did not even have to dust when they were done because there was practically no dust.

Overall: John did a great job of explaining what to expect, his workers were on time, they did exactly what they came to accomplish, and cleaned up at the end of each day.
The installation of a section of new flooring patch in the middle of the floor where the former kitchen sink plumbing was, and two areas next to walls were completed to perfection.
Crisis Management Part I: We discovered a leaking ice maker water line under the fridge just when they were scheduled to come strip and refinish the floors. The crew jumped right onto the repairs and checked to make sure the floor was fully dry before proceeding. We wanted the sanding and stain done before Thanksgiving weekend and they came through!
The sanding process was as dustless as anyone could possibly expect. They did an outstanding job of keeping it to a minimum which made it very very easy live with. The equipment they use really does a nice job of pulling the dust outside and into their truck. For some context, I know that I created more dust in the house when I did a little drywall sanding even though I used a shop vac to contain it as best as I could. I believe that their process creates less or about the same amount of dust as it would to remove and replace with new hardwood simply because tearing out the old stuff would create dust as well. By them having their industrial vacume located OUTSIDE, the dust is managed as best as possible. But don't expect it to be 100% "dust free".
Stain: Their crew really took their time to put a number of different custom mix colors on the floor while we asked them to tint it lighter and darker to coordinate with our new cabinets. We really appreciated their ability to work with us to get just the right color. As you should expect, the stain was quite smelly so we sent the kids to grandpa's for the night and left windows open for 24 hours to air out. You should plan for that when doing a refinish. The water based poly did not smell nearly as bad. We were able to carefully walk (with bare feet or socks) 2-3 hours after the stain, and after the poly coats were applied.
Crisis Management Part II: My child spilled milk and discolored a large newly stained area over the weekend before they were able to get the poly sealer down on it. The crew that came to put the polyurathane down on Monday morning did a great job of matching and blending the custom colored stain in the area. They were then able to go ahead and put down the first 2 coats of poly that day as planned without delaying the job. What a relief!!!!
Flexibility: Since this is a remodel job we were at the mercy of the other contractors (electrical, plumbing, cabinets, etc) to schedule the flooring work after the cabinets, plumbing and electrical were roughed-in. John was fantastic at adjusting SVB's crew schedules to get the job done. Since there was still work to be done with a couple of cabinets and backsplash tile following the first 2 coats of poly, SVB was fine with waiting for all of the other work to be done before returning at a later date to do the final protective coat. This flexibility really helps to make sure the final product is as good as it can be.

The price did not include painting and replacing the quarter round on my base boards. I preferred to do that myself so my cost was $400+ less than it would have been. It did include replacing three decayed boards at my back door and you cannot tell at all since the original floor and the new boards were both sanded down to "new wood" at the time of refinish. I'm somewhat particular and do a lot of my own handy man projects myself but floors I leave up to professionals that can get it done efficiently. I was very pleased with the results. I actually went to a neighbors house SVB had just done before I made the decision to go with them. They were priced right compared to other bids. The "dustless" system is far more dust free than traditional floor sanding/refinishing systems still in use by most. SVB just hooks up a giant vacuum in the driveway to all of their sanders and it removed 95% of the dust. I did drape off my newly painted kitchen cabinets, living and dining areas with .31 mil plastic just in case (comes in a roll at the big box stores). I'm glad I did as it did keep that 5% off of the other surfaces. They will do that for you if you request it. They don't were masks when sanding so that said something about the minimal dust. I would recommend SVB to family and friends. However, your milage may vary.

They were prompt and informative. They always answer the phone. They did a really nice job on the floors. They are trustworthy. I feel the price was very reasonable. There weren't any problems at all. I believe it was a 4-day process and every afternoon, the owner would call and setup for the next day. Any questions I had, they either immediately answer or immediately gets back to me. I even left the guys in the house which I typically don't do.

They were excellent all the way through. It was a fairly good size job, because we added wood to rooms that had carpet and then we refinished the whole first floor. It was very expensive. They made sure that the end result would not look like a redo or a remodel. It was dustless for the most part. Which is unheard of for finishing wood floors. They were just top notch. The people that stained it did a great job. It looks real good.

It was a disaster! They must have sent a different team to my house than they send to others that have such great reviews! The owner is a great salesman and he inspired trust in me. I did not feel it was necessary to stay home and watch their every move, but I should have. I came home to find I could not stay there overnight due to the smell. When I inspected the floors I found that stain had been allowed to puddle around the edges of the floor and also in other random areas of the floor. You know those lines you get when you mop a tile floor with dirty water? there were lines of stain like that. Also, bristles from a brush or applicator were embedded in the finish. I called "John" and told him about the problems. I did not hear back from him. I called again and he said the owner had gone out and didn't see a problem!! I was flabbergasted. Also, when they applied the stain, they did not remove the shoe around the baseboards -- the shoe and baseboards were off white -- so they were stained. When I asked them about this they said they never remove the shoe. They eventually fixed the problems with the puddles of stain and bristles in the finish. They also replaced all the ruined trim -- but it was not a very professional job. I still see where there is too much stain against the edge of my floors. And finally, one hall area ended up with multitudes of tiny bubbles on the surface. To "fix" this, they just kept applying more polyurethane, which did not work. I have never had such a bad experience with a company. The owner never bothered to call me and when John told me that the owner didn't see a problem, I had a feeling I was in some kind of alternate universe! Seriously, it was that bad.

Owner tried to tell Angie's list that they never did work for me. However, I have the receipt for the outrageous amount of money they charged me to do such a terrible job.

All appointments were kept and on time (3 partial days total from start to finish of project). Overall I would say that I am satisfied with the work performed and the professionalism of the crews. I did have two areas that I thought could have been better and both involved the sanding process. They use two sanders, an upright walk behind unit and a smaller hand held for tight areas. When using the smaller hand held sanding unit there were a couple of areas where the sanding is not a consistant depth and while looking at the floor from certain angles you can see a few low spots or dips. These are primarily around cabinets and small areas where the large sander will not fit. Sunlight hits a couple of these areas and makes them noticeable if looking closely. While using the large walk behind sander the operater came into contact with the base or kick plate of my dishwasher and left sanding marks on it. The base plate had to have some sanding done to it and repainted. Svb provided the appliance paint and did deduct a small amount for my trouble. I performed the repair work myself only because the plate needed sanding and refinishing which took a small amount of time.Besides those two problems the project went well and looks very good. Also as a note, the vacuum system used while sanding picks up most of the dust but not all of it. If you can hang plastic or sheets between adjoining living areas you will save yourself some cleanup.I would recommend SVB Wood Flooring as the overall appearance is good and the charge was well below two other bids I received from local companies.

They were excellent. I had my kitchen and hearth room floors refinished, and I had them come back a year ago and put in a hardwood floor in my dining room. This summer, they put in a hardwood floor in my 12 by 20 family room. It wasn't pre-finished; it was installed unfinished and then it was sanded, stained and finished. The carpets were removed, and they also put in a new shoe around the edge of the room. They did what they said they were going to do. They actually gave me the pricing for the family room last summer; it went up a little bit this year, but it wasn't too far up, and I think that was because I am a repeat customer. I have a gas fireplace, and when they put the floor in, they took out the little silver knob that is in the floor that I put the key down in to turn on the gas fireplace; I waited because the floor was wet and so forth. When I went to put the key in, the fireplace wall kept it from going in, so they came back out the next day after I called them, and they fixed it and solved the problem. They were very responsive. I would rate them highly.
