"The scheduling complexities of our production office is very hard to explain as we are constantly battling several elements on a daily basis. It is unfortunate that we were not able to tell you enough time ahead, and we apologize for that. The crew chief had a situation that he could not walk away from so they were unable to start on Friday. We did get right back to it the very next day but again was unable to give more than just a day's notice. The fine detail work is something Pyramid ensures happens on every job so we did not want to rush and try and fit the job into one day and the crew did go back out Sunday morning to finish the work. Communication is always something that can be improved upon and setting expectations on the front of the conversation would really help. Pyramid is thankful for all the business we receive and will continue to strive to be better in every aspect of the business. As we work through the busy times we appreciate any and all patience that our customers give us when handling their home."
"Pyramid Roofing was contracted for a home improvement project by the customer to re-roof, gutters, and power wash and stain deck. Upon completion of the work, customer contacted the office that we had cracked a piece of siding on the front (south) side and the left (west) side of the house. Pyramid Roofing had temporary repairs done with generic siding to eliminate the risk of leakage behind the siding. Once we were able to match siding to like siding and color Pyramid Roofing went back to move and fix siding. Pyramid took a piece from the West side of house and moved towards the front of the house to have an exact match. From there we used the new piece and moved to the very back corner of the house as the first piece of siding on the wall. Upon completion of the work we asked the home owner to come outside and inspect and gave approval as the work was satisfactory. Upon further review Pyramid Roofing has time and date stamped pictures documenting that the days we left for work there was no damage to the siding on the left or (west side of the house) and then the next day less than 12 hours later there was damage. The front of the house where the damage piece of siding was there is no gutter runs and our ladders would not have been there. Once we invoiced the job, at this time the home owner had called into the company asking for a reduction on his bill because the siding did not match and has lowered the value of his home and he could not afford to keep it and had to sell it. Our price that we charged was the same price as the insurance money paid out and for anyone who knows, when you are doing insurance work, the insurance company sets the pricing, not the contractor. So we were not the highest bid, we just simply honored whatever the insurance agreed to pay out on the job. The job was given to us through a program called Innovation, and even they were trying to assist in closing this job out. We offered $250 for the inconvenience of the damage we allegedly caused, and the home owner said this was not enough. Then the home owner complained through insurance and the Innovation program and asked for use to pay out $2,300 and next it went to $3,600 and now once the formal complaints have been submitted he is now asking for $8,600 to resolve the complaint. Clearly a motive driven by trying to save money that his insurance has already paid him and he has not paid anything to Pyramid. Innovation has stated this is un-realistic to try and solve so they closed it out for us. We have done more than our part to resolve an issue that we may or not have caused. We put the same color siding that was originally used unfortunately it is older and not as clean and vibrant as the new piece. We even tried to offer to clean the siding close to it to see if we can bring it back to life a little and a better match. Pyramid Roofing has done more than its part to resolve but the home owner is unrealistic in how much he is requesting us to pay to resolve. The pictures that you are seeing by the customer is work prior to the completion of the repair. Attempting to show us no doing what we needed to do."
"Thanks for the great rating!"
"While we appreciated the opportunity to re-roof [Member Name Removed]'s home, there were significant rafter framing issues that were out of our control. We re-roofed a section of [Member Name Removed]'s roof (for free) after allowing her to chose a carpenter / framer (of her choice) to fix the structural issues with rafters. Pyramid stood behind the roofing work and communicated with her about her options and saw the project to it's completion."
"Thanks for the great grade!"
"I'm really sorry about you're experience. We have no record of a complaint ever being made while we were putting the roof on in October of 2011 or since. I have also never heard of Guerrero Roofing. Please feel free to call me to discuss further. Ray L'Etoile General Manager 816-966-1101"
We saw the project manager the first day when he dropped off his card, but did not see him again over the 4 days that it took to
complete. It would have been nice to have someone check with us each day to make sure things were going well, as we did have some questions and concerns. I did call him once to ask about the handling of ventilation over a section of our house that has a vaulted ceiling, and he said he would check on it the next time he was "out there", but we did not see or hear from him. The roof was completed on a Friday, and on the next Monday a crew showed up to install the soffit vents. They quickly found out that they had only brought the 6? x 12? soffit vents, which were too large for our soffits. They came back the next day, and installed 20 of the smaller soffit vents. We asked the crew about it, telling them that other companies had indicated that we need more than 20 of the smaller vents. The crew asked how many vents we wanted. We told them that we just want what is needed for the size of our roof. A quick search on the GAF website shows that there is a formula to calculate the necessary square foot of vent space for a given amount of attic space. But, we assumed a reputable roofing company that has been in business 20 years would not need us to tell them how many vents we need to properly vent our roof and meet the shingle manufacturer warranty specifications. They proceeded to add 10 more vents, to match the number that other companies had given in their quotes. When a rep came to inspect the job, we asked him if they take the temperature in the attic to make sure that the ventilation is performing properly. He responded that their responsibility is only to cut the vents, not to make sure that they are working. We then asked him if proper ventilation is necessary to meet the shingle manufacturer's warranty, and he said that it is not (which is contrary to our subsequent findings). This came as a surprise, as we expected that having a reputable company put in new decking, shingles, and vents would come with the peace-of-mind that our new roof would qualify for the GAF warranty.
When the roof was complete, there was one section of gutter that was very banged up, and was not even entirely secured to the fascia. Pyramid said that they would replace the damaged area free of charge, but said that it is a 4? gutter, which are no longer available. Since the new would be a 5? gutter, they would need to replace the entire gutter that is connected to the damaged section, which included a long section that wrapped around the garage. They asked if we would be willing to pay $300 to ?split the difference? of the labor with them. We agreed, as it seemed like a fair compromise. The gutters were replaced and painted in a timely manner.
When we met to write them a check for the job, we were surprised to see that they had added $450 over the bid/contract price for the additional 10 soffit vents. We had no idea that we were going to be charged extra for those. If we had known beforehand that it was going to be $45 per soffit vent, we would likely have installed them ourselves, as most of that is labor cost. The rep did agree to split the difference on the $450. Still, paying more than the agreed upon price to get adequate ventilation for our new roof was an unpleasant surprise. It makes us second-guess our decision to go with Pyramid.
The workmanship is fine, but we think they could improve their communication and customer service.
This replacement was a major investment, and we believe that there are other companies (with a more pristine Angie's List rating) that are more consistent about making sure the customer is informed and comfortable every step along the way.
"I appreciate you bringing this matter up. Not something that generally happens and it will be addressed"
"Was there any specific reason why we didn't rate an "A"? Feel free to call me or email Ray L'Etoile 816-966-1101, [email protected]"
"Thanks for the excellent score!"
We asked Pyramid to look at our roof a couple of years ago. Ray Lindner came out, inspected the roof and told us we didn't need a new roof at that time. I was impressed! We would have replaced the roof if someone less honest had told us it was bad. So, we called Ray when our roof started leaking around the skylight in the kitchen. Ray came out on 6-24. It was actually the skylight that was leaking and would need to be replaced. However, since the roof and skylight were 25 years old, we decided to go with a new roof, skylight and have a sun tunnel installed at the same time. They scheduled us for 7-6-2015 but I requested a delay until 7-13 because the skylight we ordered from a home improvement store wouldn't be in until 7-10. Not a problem.
The workers showed up at 7:00 AM on 7-13 and began tearing off. Shortly afterward, the haul away trailer was delivered. The materials had yet to arrive but that was beyond Pyramid's control. A supervisor called to see where the materials were. The job inspector, Chad, came and talked to us about the sun tunnel which, after he examined it, wasn't going to work. When I checked the paperwork on that, it appears the one we received was not the one we had ordered. it was too big and had the wrong flange for the roof. I was highly disappointed because it would take two weeks to get the right one. Chad told me not to stress about it because he would come out and personally set the roof portion. In the end, he found the right one from one of their suppliers and actually saved us some money on the deal. Over and above the call of duty, if you ask me.
The crew worked steadily in 95 degree heat. They took about 2 hours off for lunch and a rest but I was glad they did because it was so hot that day. I noticed that some workers did things like the flashing around the fireplace and skylights. They were very precise in fitting everything. They worked together as a team with almost no breaks and very little unnecessary chitchat. Late in the afternoon, a pop-up thunderstorm moved in. They kept working but there was some lightening in the distance so they got off the roof. I was glad because I didn't want someone getting hit by lightening. Instead of sitting around, they started cleaning up outside until the rain passed on. They finished our roof around 7:30 PM - just one day (it's not a huge house) and it looks great!!! No mess in the yard, didn't damage any of our flowers or shrubs. They even covered our deck and driveway with tarps.
Throughout the job, Chad, Ray Lindner and another supervisor stopped by to make sure everything was going well and answer any questions we might have. I can't say enough good things about the way this job went.
"Thank you for such a positive review!"
