I hired Kenny's tile to furnish and install my 5and quot; Hickory plank hardwood floors. Jake Sullivan was my salesman. I was kind of leery of him from the beginning but I had a referral from a friend that spoke highly of him. When the floors were installed they looked great. The guys were very professional and clean. They came back and did the first coat of stain and finish and there were some areas of concern and I brought those to Jakes attention. When they did the final coat there were some of those areas that were missed along with a lot of dirt in the final coat. I met with Jesse and he agreed that the floor needed some attention. The crew came back out and did some touch ups on the floor although there were still some areas that were missed. During this period of time my island sink had leaked and raised the floor in a small area. Jesse came back out and looked at the water damaged area and also the other spots. He suggested that I wait until the floor has had enough time to dry out and then he will have the crew come back out and repair the water damage area for an additional $200.00 and fix the areas that were still missed the first couple times. Last week Jesse along with his crew came out and focused on the areas of concern. When his crew left they had put blue tape on the floor boxing off the planks that they had worked on and advised not to walk on for 12 hours. So my family left the house for 15 hours. When I came back home to inspect the areas that had the blue tape around them. One area in particular, stripper or something has been spilled on a knot in the floor and the knot has raised up and whale tailed, the area in front of the sink where they had put the clear coat has thick jagged lines that is very noticeable, they filled several knot holes around the floor and did not put a clear finish on them once they filled them so there are several noticeable dull spots. My husband contacted Jesse and told him about the issues and asked if he could send out the owner or supervisor to look at the problem areas and Jesse said that he would set up a meeting for Wed. Feb 5th at 6:00 pm at my home. Last night when Jesse and Jake Sullivan showed up at my house, we politely invited them inside and both of my kids were running around playing. My husband started showing Jake and Jesse the areas of concern and explained that he was not trying to knit pick the floors and Jake interrupted him and raised his voice and said, and quot;Well you kinda are!and quot; my husband said, and quot;no there are just some areas that have some issuesand quot; Jake then said, and quot;Well, you get what you pay for and you still owe $3,000.00.and quot; David said, and quot;your right I do, but I'm not going to pay for something that is not finishedand quot; Jake then raised his voice and started slamming his hand on the counter top and pointing in my husbands face and said, and quot; I will have my guys here in the morning to fix this d*** floor and you WILL have a check sitting right here (slamming his hand on the counter top) for $3000.00!!!) My husband said, and quot; You need to leave my houseand quot;, Jake continues to walk around and starts ripping up the blue tape off of the floors and continues to raise his voice saying, and quot; YOU ARE GOING TO PAY ME!and quot; (this is all in front of my kids! both of my kids start crying) my husband said and quot; you are not going to talk to me this way in my house you need to leaveand quot; Jake continues to raise his voice then gets in my husband's face and I jumped in between the two of them and continued to tell Jake to leave. As I attempted to guide him toward the front door, Jake continued to raise his voice and my husband said, and quot;if you don't leave I'm calling the copsand quot; Jake said and quot; go ahead and call the cops.and quot; I am standing in front of Jake at the front door between him and my husband, while my husband is calling the cops, Jake says and quot;I never wanted to do this job! I never wanted to do this job! I did this for a friend!and quot; Jake then slammed open the front door nearly smacking Jesse in the face with the door and storms out throwing the blue tape in the yard. I said thank you to Jesse and he said, and quot;thank you, sorry about thatand quot; then he walks out. As Jake gets into his truck he yells, and quot; I should have slipped and fell and broke my leg so I could have sued you!and quot; he then peels out in my FRONT yard and then stops halfway down my driveway and waits.... he finally pulls off. Then 10 min later he comes back and stops at my mailbox and drives off. I did file a report with the Jackson County Sheriff. (During this entire visit Jesse said nothing)
This behavior is completely unacceptable and very unprofessional! I can not believe that he would represent Kenny's Tile in this fashion or cause such a scene in my home in front of my young children!!! We requested management to come and this is what we got! ( a night full of headache and my children saying, and quot;mommy he is a bad guy, don't let that bad guy back in mommyand quot;)
I really hope this is NOT the way you would like your salesman representing your company.
#1. When they put the floor down in all three bathrooms they didn't clean up the mortar around the floor flange for my toilets. I asked Mark Pershau to have them clean that out but they never did. I had to take a Dremel and grind out all of the extra mortar that was underneath the floor flange so I could get the toilet bolts under the flange for installation.*The bit that I had to go buy was about $12 and it lasted for all three toilet flanges that I had to cleanup.
#2. When the floor layer tiled the master bathroom he had taken out the ring I had put up for access to the shower valve. The ring came with the new shower valve to give you a distance to tile up too. He had removed the ring and tiled past it, leaving me only enough space to be able to screw the faceplate on to the valve. If I have to do any work on the valve I will have to cut out the tile to make enough access. *note - after talking to an ex-floor layer of Kenny's he said that it is standard procedure to remove the guide and just tile to where the screws are for the valves.
#3. When they finished up on the 6th day they had missed a section of the wainscot in the master bathroom between the door and the shower. I was able to call Mark and have him send someone out to finish the job but he wasn't able to schedule anyone that week. He wasn't able to schedule anyone for a couple of weeks. When he originally scheduled them there was an issue and no one showed up. The next day that we scheduled he sent out a floor helper who could only grout so we had to reschedule for another day. On 11/20/13 the original floor layer was able to come out and finish the work. He put the tile up and also grouted on the same day so he wouldn't have to come back and everything would be finished. *Note - They had it in the bid to seal the marble on the floor and the wainscot but it was never done.
The biggest issue that I had with them had to do with their billing practices and department. I originally paid a little over $1800 to them before they began work. Half up front half at completion, which I thought was reasonable. I received the final bill before they finished the job so I waited to pay it until it was done. While I waited I did notice that there was some discrepancies on the bill. When I looked at it broke down the job and than had a final total. They than subtracted the first payment I made from the final total. When I took a closer look the math didn't add up correctly. They had a final total of 2907.50 - 1834.25 = 1834.25. The actual amount if you subtract it correctly should have been $1073.25 I thought this was off so I called to speak to the billing department and they gave me the name of Nicole Fitzimins and her voicemail. I called three times leaving messages each time with my name, address and phone number for Nicole Fitzimins. I never once heard back from her. When they finally finished the bathroom on 11/20/13 I drove over to Kenny's tile where I personally walked in and tried to talk to Nicole. She was not available so I left the payment of $1073.25 and the original bill with Patty at the front desk. With the payment I had question marks and notes of her math being wrong, along with that, I put the adjusted math on the note line of the check so she would see it.
On January 2nd, 2014 I received another bill from Kenny's tile saying that I owed them a little over seven hundred dollars. I reached out to Nicole Fitzimins twice, both times leaving my information and asking her to please call me back. Finally I reached out to Mark Perschau who said he would look into it. After a couple of calls over a weeks time I found out that Nicole had made a mistake and didn't charge me for everything and they had caught it at the end of year closing. Mark said he would reach out to his owners since I didn't feel like I should have to pay full price for their mistakes. When he came back he said that they would not reduce the price and that I had to pay in full. On January 9th I cut them a check to be paid in full.
The quality of work done by Kenny’s was excellent. We are very pleased with the work. There was only one cost over run but Kenny’s tile ate that as they stuck to their original bid. The only issue we had was schedule delays. The start of the project was delayed 2 weeks due to non-coordination. Then there was a 2 day delay due to the need of rework as the builder left out the bench and cubby. But that was also done at Kenny’s expense. So, from our perspective, the only thing we lost was time.
I would defiantly use Kenny’s again for future projects as they stand behind their bids and do quality work.
The template, layout, removal and install appointments were all on time, professional, informative and friendly. The quality of the materials and workmanship is excellent. The project was 3 1/2 days, exactly as Mark had explained to us, and he walked us through each step. There were no surprise costs, or extra days for construction.
We would definitely use Kenny's again and would recommend them to others.
The work was performed as promised in a three day time frame. We supplied the materials for the job. The crew did an excellent job of cleaning up after each day of work. The workmanship was excellent and the finished job still looks great after over 6 months of use.
Several months after the job was complete a small gap showed up next to the shower inclosure in one of the bathrooms. It probably was the result of our very dry weather but the gap was filled with grout at no charge.
I would not hesitate to have Kenny's Tile install tile in the future.
The only problem was with the plumbing. Kenny's subcontracted the plumbing part of this job. The plumber showed up when he was supposed to and did the work. A few days later we noticed that everything below the sink was wet. I called the plumber directly (that is what he requested should I have any issues) and told him of the problem. Two days later he came out to fix the leak, which happened to be on the drain. He checked his work and left. A couple of hours later, the area below the sink was wet again. I called the plumber the next day(Thursday) and left several messages. No response. I tried several more times and he finally texted me, about lunch time, and indicated that he was in class and would get back wiht me soon. Thursday evening comes and goes no call. Friday I decided that if I hadn't heard from him by lunch that I would make other arrangements. He didn't call, so I hired another plumber because I didn't want the problem all weekend, it had already been a week and a half since the original install. Late Friday afternoon after the other plumber had fixed the problem, the subcontract plumber called. I didn't answer his call. I called Kenny's to complain. They listened and offered to call the plumber and get him out, but I explained that I had already handled it. Kenny's seems to be a good company as everything they did directly went well, but I don't think much of their subcontractor!
I called Kenny's and received a call almost immediately from the hardwoods installer. He came out to my house and did some measurements. I told him about the vinyl - pulled up the carpet and told him where I thought the dimensions were. This was the only reason we were sanding and restaining as we needed all the floor to look the same. The rest of the flooring was perfect underneath. I knew the complete history of this house as my grandfather built it. In addition, no one had lived there but my grandparents, later on my uncle and now myself. He sent me an estimate that was reasonable - I signed and returned.
A few days later I realized the hallway had been widened and there was no hardwoods in an area in the hallway. So more flooring needed to be threaded here and they came out to take a closer look. He gave me pricing and I approved. The job was scheduled for the following Monday.
He called me Friday and said they wouldn't be out on Monday, but they would be out first thing Tuesday. I told him we boarded our dogs and it was costing us $40 a day - and essentially he cost us $80, by not starting until Tuesday. On my lunch break I went
home and no one was there. I called and they said they would be out between 2:00 and 4:00. I swung by after work and there was one guy threading the carpet in the hallway. I let him know there was a whole area in the livingroom that needed flooring as well. Kenny's called me and said that wasn't in the estimate. He told me that when an unseen issue arose, they would stop the job and wait for approval to move forward. I argued that this was not and quot;unseenand quot; - I clearly showed this to him. He told me he assumed there were hardwoods until the vinyl. I told him that was not an assumption that was made by me. I expected that he would be the professional and looked at that closer any one of the two times he had come out to take a closer look at the floors. This was annoying, but I just wanted the work done - this oversight added an additional $1100 onto the project, not to mention and additional 2 days. There is no reason why he couldn't have included this in the original estimate. Anyway, the work had started happened quickly at that point. It wasted time -
Anyway, we were able to walk on the floors without shoes on Sunday. It wasn't until Wednesday that anyone was out to do the finishing. All the doors were still off and some of the carpet that was left in the closets needed transition strips and the quarter-round in my daughter's room still needed to be put back on. The phone was answered every time I called, but I was annoyed that I had to call - no one was reaching out to me. Not to mention, the transition strips. There was transition strips that needed to be put down to bridge the new floors with the tile in both the bathroom and the entry way. I was irritated that this wasn't looked at more closely and they didn't offer any kind of solution for it. It looked awful - the installer's attitude seemed to be that if it wasn't on the estimate, then they weren't responsible for it. That was REALLY annoying.
I do feel that many of these issues could have been resolved prior to them ever starting the job. These are supposed to be professionals and should see past the job itself. This is called taking care of the customer. Anything outside of the hardwoods, was just not their problem. I didn't need them to solve for it, just acknowledge it with a and quot;Hey, if we do this, you are going to need someone to come in and install a transition strip - I am sorry we just don't do work like thisand quot;....
So, I won't complain about the pricing or the actual work. I am very pleased with my floors and all things considered, this was done very quickly. However, their finishing work is not timely or the best. I hired contractors to do the transition strips. I probably won't use them for hardwood installation, but will use them for tile at a later date.
prioritized/scheduled for both budgeting and allowing personal distance between disruptive projects. Mark was the most professional and knowledgeable of contractors from whom we requested bids. Although we did not use Kenny's for our family room hardwood floor due to a lower bid from a realtor-recommended specialist who only does hardwood floors, we did hire Kenny's to install new tile floors in our master bath suite. The installation was done courteously and professionally. The installers were efficient, professional and courteous. Mark was detailed and diligent in assuring our complete satisfaction. When he came out for inspection, our only criticism was that there still seemed to be a few spots of residue. We did not consider it a big deal and were perfectly willing to clean it ourselves. He insisted that the job was not finished as it should have been and the installer came out shortly thereafter to go over the floor in its entirety. It was spotless before he left. We were very pleased with the results and plan to hire Kenny's to install new tile floors and new countertops in a guest bath and children's Hollywood bath within the next four months.
"This work was performed in the year 2011. The original stair case that was there had issues so we had too keep working on it till we got it right. Not every job is going to go smooth but at the end we made it right and completed the job. Kenny's does over 5,000 jobs a year and has a good reputation because we take care of our customers and have the full package."
"What a great client the member was! Thank you so much for your business; it was a pleasure working with you!!"
