The floors have been remarkably renewd from their yellowed varnished color to a lovely finish that we absolutely love. We would highly recommend them to anyone needing their floors redone.
Staff had the patience to try various combinations of stain to accommodate our requests for color comparison (somewhat tedious and repetitive) and the floors turned out beautifully. One inlaid and 1 side vent did not perfectly fit - but when called, staff came back in timely fashion to make the minor adjustments required, and everything looks great.
The dust control from the initial sanding was very good, but I ended up with fine dust everywhere from buffing out the finish before application of the final coat. I guess that is something you have to deal with when doing construction.
They finished a day earlier than originally planed. I was happy about that, but they did not tell me, or my wife (who was home at the time), so we kept wondering why they did not show up on the last day, until we called.
The floor vent covers they provided were finished very well, and match the floor, but did not fit until I cut the underside down to fit in the vent holes in the floor.
Once the work was reportedly done, and I inspected it, I found many areas of dust and grit embedded throughout various and many areas of each room, particularly around the corners. I had hardwood floors in my old home and knew that this was not the case in my prior experience with wood refinishing and new wood finishing. The project manager inspected, and agreed it was not satisfactory and apologized, and advised they would resend and redo. When it was "done" again, I inspected and found some improvement, but still many areas of grit and small debris embedded into the finish. I again called the project manager to inspect, and again he agreed it was not satisfactory and speculated that there was something .wrong with his worker's equipment. They redid it, and again it was better, but at that point the finish in 2 of the rooms was dulled due to their efforts to remove the problem areas, and there were still problem areas of grit.. At this point, both of us were frustrated and the relationship deteriorated. I did not expect perfection but at the price i was paying I did expect a decent and smooth finish and based on my past experience with wood floors, knew that what I had was not up to par. The project manager at one point said he didn't understand why they were having these problems because they had just done a very expensive project in Johnson County KS with a black floor finish and it was perfect "and like glass". My only reply was that I didn't understand it either if that was the case, they were obviously doing something different on my floor. I finally just gave up because it was obvious that the floor was not going to ever be completely right and I settled for just "acceptable." because I had to prepare to move in and have furniture delivered and I couldn't wait for them to do it better. The workers did a good job coming up with a color for the floors, but they at first were not going to replace the quarter round or trim. That had never been explained to me and I was in a time crunch at that point because of the continued efforts to get a smooth finish, so the manager finally agreed to replace it, using the old trim they'd taken up, but they weren't happy about it. The finish in the dining room is duller than the rest of the rooms because it had the most problems in terms of grit,
If I had it do do over, I would NOT use this company. I paid a lot of money to hire a company I'd researched and thought would be top notch, but I got a barely-acceptable result
"Unfortunately their are existing characteristics in a wood floor that can not be completely removed. We tried on 2 occasions and could not make the home owner satisfied. These characteristics were only viewable in certain standing points and very slight. The floor quality exceeds the standards set by the National Wood Flooring Association guide lines."
Overall, these are picky points, but when spending this much, I expect a lot. Still, I would definitely use them again.
"I WAS CONTACTED BY THE OWNER ABOUT THE HAND PRINT AND STAIN AT BOTTOM OF THE CABINETS BEFORE JOB WAS COMPLETED. WE REMOVED WITH THINNER THE PROBLEM AREAS TO CUSTOMER SATISFACTION, SO SHE STATED. AS FOR THE TRASH, WE LEFT 2 BAGS OF SAWDUST AT THE END OF THE DRIVEWAY FOR TRASH PICK-UP WHICH IS COMMON PRACTICE FOR HARDWOOD FLOORING CONTRACTORS. AS FOR THE HAIR IN THE FINISH, THE OWNER HAD SEVERAL IN HOUSE PETS THAT SHED AS MOST ANIMALS DO, THEIR WAS A CONSTANT FLOW OF ANIMAL HAIR IN THE AIR DURING OUR SANDING AND FINISHING PROCESS. THE FLOORS WERE NOT ONLY VACUUMED TWICE ON EACH PHASE OF COATING, BUT WERE TACKED CLOTHED AS WELL. WE DID OUR ABSOLUTE BEST TO ELIMINATE THE ANIMAL HAIR BUT COULD NOT PREVENT IT ALL AS IT WAS IN THE DUCT WORK BEING BLOWN OUT. IN RESPONSE TO PAYING TO MUCH FOR YOUR SERVICES, I WOULD ONLY HOPE AS AN ACTING CONTRACTOR/OVER SIGHT PERSON YOU WOULD KNOW THAT YOU PAID ONLY WHOLESALE FOR THE WORK THAT WAS DONE. YOU ALSO HAD AND DID TAKE AN ENTIRE 30 DAYS TO PAY FOR YOUR WORK. IF YOU WERE NOT HAPPY WITH SOMETHING, I BELIEVE THAT A PHONE CALL WOULD HAVE RESOLVED ALMOST ANYTHING AS YOU HAVE STATED THAT MY COMPANY IS ONE THAT "CARES ABOUT ITS CUSTOMERS". I WOULD HAVE RATHER TALKED WITH YOU ON THE TELEPHONE OR IN PERSON."
