My experience has been the same has it has been for the last five or six years. I am very satisfied with them. I am going to use them again. They would be here probably about April or May to get the air conditioner ready to go. I pay $175 for the fall and spring. It is a combination service. What they do is very good.

I have always felt that the costs were reasonable. Whenever they give me estimates, they are comparable. I feel comfortable with their pricing. I trust them. The technician is very friendly, nice, knowledgeable, and professional. He explains everything along the way.

Once it was determined that I needed a new furnace, Shelby came out to my historic home twice just to plan how to best maximize my air flow. 
We walked through the house together and he explained my options to increase heat on my first floor ? where we rarely spent time in winter months because it was so cold. 
As we talked, I could see Shelby was getting more & more excited about planning a solid fix for my unique situation and 100-year old, 3-story home.  
He noticed some extra improvements to the vent work in the basement that could be easily re-worked as part of the job.
We decided to add two additional heat registers in my living room. 
Shelby explained that he would do the job however I wanted it done and how much each improvement we
considered would cost. 
All the while he gave me his professional insights. 
He let me take the time to research historic register covers to match the craftsman style of my home. 
He explained that if I scheduled the work during his slow time, he would give me a good discount. 
However,
he did not pressure me at all. 
I decided to go with A-1 because of Shelby?s obvious passion for doing a quality job, his clear communication, creativity, and his belief in the brand of furnace he would install.
The night he and his co-worker finished up the 2-day replacement job, I was actually able to sit in my living room and read a
book! 
It was 18 degrees outside. 
I feel as though I got the first floor of my house back!
His thorough planning and detailed explanations carried through to the quality of his work and attention to detail throughout the
entire process. 
They are master ?sheet metal shapers?- if that is such a thing. 
They cleaned everything up and hauled away the old furnace and all other trash.
The final price was exactly on estimate. 
They explained what kind and when I should replace the filter and how I should open/close the vents to direct the air flow in different seasons.
I will definitely have Shelby back every Spring and Autumn to be sure the heating & cooling of my home is optimized now that I have a top-quality heating system installed. 
Thanks to Shelby, the value of my historic home and the comfort of living in it have been improved. 
I trust A-1 to maintain it.
 
 

Shelby came on time, was  very professional and very customer-service oriented.  I had taken the doors off of the furnace and because I did, he was unable to read the codes.  He found several minor issues to be addressed in the future and gave me quotes for the costs.  He ran system checks - flamesensor, pressure switch, inspected inside of furnace, cleared flue, checked thermostat, restarted the furnace 3 times, while explaining what he was doing, why, and what he found.  Afterwards, the furnace is producing heat.  He was finished within an hour or maybe a little more. 

Our furnace stopped working in the middle of the night. Waking up to a very cold house, I searched through the listings on Angie's List and chose A-1 because of their reviews. I called them at 7 am and left a message. My call was returned before 7:30 and they were at my house by 8:00. Simply amazing!

Shelby was on time, did a d*** fine job ! very happy with his service.

Shelby was not the first repairman I called, but he will be the last. Had a miserable day and night with the A/C not working.  First thing in the morning started calling around to see if I could get someone out to look at it.  Everyone was too busy even for an evening look.  When I called Shelby and explained the situation to him he said he would find away to get to me that day, just be a little patient.  Next he told me to immediately turn off my A/C incase it had frozen up at all, there should hopefully be no ice build up left.  He arrived a few hours later and was able to tell me exactly what had happened.  He went ahead and did maintenance work while he was here, advised me that I would probably need to replace my fan sooner than later, gave me a fair quote and zero pressure to replace it now.  Both are still running great. Shelby offers a maintenance plan for Hvac units and I quickly signed up. Now the only maintenance I have to remember is changing the filter each month.  Thank you Shelby for being able to get here that day and for putting up with and answering all my questions.

Shelby arrived with the equipment we needed replaced and started right in to work. Unfortunately the coil housing was higher than he was led to believe and so it didn't fit right off. He offered to search for another one on somebody's shelf but we had already spent the hottest week of the year so far without any A/C and weren't keen on adding additional days to the task.



Shelby then called in another worker whose ductwork skills are excellent and before long the adjustments were made and it looked like it had all belonged together from the beginning.



Because the inside coil didn't slip into the old unit's place, the original time estimate had to be adjusted but it was all done, tested, and working before 5 p.m.



It was clear all day that Shelby is concerned about the total job: making sure the copper tubing was attached to the side of the house to minimize damage if bumped, making 90-degree curves rather than a swooshing down the easiest path, discussing "20-year-decisions" with me several times before proceeding, and then making sure I understood what was going to happen, what was happening, and what is going to happen.



He wisely offered some maintenance services but first pointed out they were not needed immediately--but that he would be happy to provide when needed.

They were professional.

When Shelby arrived, he assessed our AC/Heating unit in our attic.  He noticed that the wiring was wrong, causing a possible fire hazard,  and that it needed new parts.  Instead of ordering new parts, he provided an alternative to fix the system, along with fixing the incorrect wiring from the prior installer of the unit.  The unit was less than a year old, and I was pleased that he was able to fix the unit without any inconvenience to me or my family.  He was very professional and even took his shoes off when he came into the house.

Shelby is great at giving the best information regarding his field.  Shelby did a good job last summer regarding diagnosing the need for a humidifier, and he was right on, as with this drought, we needed one. His company's regular maintenance over the last year appears to have gone well.  He informed me of the poor quality furnace I had bought from someone else, and of how I could at least make it last longer.  He found how there was too much freon injected into my air conditioner.  Installation of the humidifier appears to be very good, although we just had the product put in.  Shelby was very accessible and patient to my many questions re: the best brand and model of humidifier and other services to fit our needs.

After years of trying to keep our 30+ year old furnace working, the blower and humidifier finally kicked the bucket and it was time to upgrade.  Shelby came out, reviewed what we had and discussed in detail all of our options so we could decide what was best for us.  Everything from replacing parts and doing service to keep the old unit operational, to the benefits and drawbacks of the different high efficiency units that we could install instead.  We chose to go with a new high efficiency unit and set up the schedule for the install with Shelby on the spot.  He arranged everything, including the cutting of the holes through the cinder block walls of our basement for the intake and exhaust of the new unit.
On the day of the install Shelby was at our house promptly first thing in the morning and got right to work removing the old unit and getting the new unit installed.  He hauled away all the old equipment, worked quickly and professionally and left my basement cleaner than it was when he started.  Matching up the ducting in this old house to the new unit was a challenge, but no problem for Shelby's skills with sheet metal.  He made sure everything was clean and neat as if he was installing it in his own home.
Once the install was complete Shelby walked us through the operation of the new unit and left us with detailed maintenance instructions for keeping the unit operating smoothly for years to come.  It was a great learning experience for us, and we could not be happier with our new unit.  We have even received multiple follow up calls throughout the year from Shelby making sure that we were happy with the work and the unit, and making sure everything was working properly.
Very professional work from a very personable individual.  We have recommended him to all friends, family and neighbors for all of their HVAC needs, and have continued to use him for annual maintenance.

I was very plesed with the service I recieved from A-1 Heating and cooling.  The serviceman arrived exactly on time and explained every step of the process in a friendly and professional manner.  The price of the service very reasonable. I would not hesitate to recommend them to friends and family and I will use them again from any heating cooling problem I might have.

They are very upfront and honest. They did a fantastic job.

Early Saturday morning, I found the furnace had failed to come on.  I called A-1 Heating & Cooling on Monday morning.  They said they could come out by noon.  The technician was on time, had the needed part in stock and installed it as needed.  Both the dispatcher and the technician were courteous and professional.  The technician was very helpful in answering questions and offering advise.  I am completely satisfied.

My hot water heater died on a Saturday.  Shelby came out and took a look and told me it needed to be replaced.  He quoted me a price for 40 and 50 gallon.  I tried to get another company to give me a "2nd opinion", but I didn't have a service contract with them so they were not available.  So instead of trying to get someone to come out - I just called for prices to replace and install with a comparable model.  I reviewed the model A-1used and it had excellent ratings (A.O.Smith).  Nothing fancy, not energy star rated, but I checked all those as well and there was no cost savings.  They came out as scheduled, very professional as always.  Impeccable service!!  I know I can count on them.

Great! We had about 5 companies come out in one day to quote furnace and a/c pricing. We chose Shelby b/c he was the owner/installer, a local company, he was priced competitively, and he could book us within 2 days (important when it was so cold!). Easy installation, very clean workspace. It has been 1 year since the installation and we have had no problems with our furnace and the a/c was amazing this past summer.
