My yard had a distinct drop off, instead of discussing that he would build up a part of the ground to the height of the patio he was going to pour. He built it up, poured the concrete leaving a three foot drop with a minor amount of dirt pitching down I discussed with him as the work was progressing that I did not understand how the front of the concrete was going to make it down to the ground which would be approximately 2.5 feet, he assured me that he would face the front.
When the concrete was all poured I was very pleased, it was very pretty. At that point I continued to believe the drop was going to be continued to be worked on. I asked Justin how he was going to fix the drop that had dirt and gravel and he said that was it. I was dumbfounded. The concrete came out to where it was planned with a drop to "ground level" with the built up dirt falling off the side. I asked his opinion and he said just to sod it. The drop was so steep and so far there would be no way to keep side from falling down, nor would it take root to the gravel that was in the dirt.
When the form was poured off at the end, the extra cement was not taken off and left behind were large chunks of concrete that we had no idea how to remove or cover I had also hired him to put in a 12 x 8 x3 foot retaining wall. This was clearly drawn in a circle. The end result was a half "eye" shape. There was no drainage behind it. It was put completely against the dirt that he had dug out. The bricks were spaced with peices of rock and gravel to try and level each row. The wall was built directly under the downspout. He was supposed to return the next day to place a pipe on the downspout and came back with the pipe, but asked if he could do it the next Tuesday. He never returned. The wall collapsed three days later with the rain.
He did no clean up, leaving large chunks of concrete, and wood in the yard. When he poured the concrete he ran the remainders into the hole that I had dug for a pond leaving three inches of concrete in the bottom.
I tried to contact him by phone, email and text.
I made a grave mistake on my part. I paid cash and told me he could bring me the reciept when he returned that Tuesday. He of course did not return. I left one final message asking for a $500 refund along with a receipt so I could rebuild the wall myself and a copy of the receipt. I received neither.
My mistake. I had a very good reference from his pastor.
The cracks now after a few months you can fit your finger in most all of them. The concrete job looks like it was done 5 -7 years ago.
I called him and asked if he could come by to see how we can repair some of the problems I was already seeing. He said on the phone he was out of town and would come by to take a look as soon as he got back to Kansas City. I never heard from him again. I called multiple times and he would not call me back. I spoke with a couple other concrete companies and they said the job was so badly done that it would need to be completely replaced. I spent $10,700.00 - this was a huge hit. I was forced to take him to small claims court, which he has never shown up for his hearings.
If you could see the photos I've documented over the last few months you would be astonished at the quality of this job.
DO NOT USE THIS CONCRETE COMPANY - I'M OUT OVER 10K, BUT YOU HAVE A CHOICE.
