Started off great like so many jobs. Full crew ready to work! We had 2 buildings down to bare wood with all good boards ready to roof. My family did the old roof removal. We pushed the waste into a large trailer owned by Koppitz construction. The owner and his workers would move it around the buildings for us to drop down into. When it was full they would dump it and return the next day with it empty and ready to fill again. The materials arrived that same afternoon and the nail guns were going with all good things going on. Then it started to go down hill by day 2. They showed up real late and less than half a crew, so not much got finished. Day 3 they were even more late and they left early, and the roofing supplier showed up threatening to put a lean on our house because he wrote a bad check on our materials. So we had to pay them directly from our account that same day before work could resume. Minor deal, but if that's all it was then so what. It wasn't. Now the forecast for rain was coming and they wasted 3 dry days with no shows, showing up late, and sometimes just Mr. Koppitz and no helper, so I would help. For free of course!. One of his workers who did not know what he was doing was not installing the flashing correctly so it didn't bother me he wasn't there! I just wanted it done right. He would rip the tin flashing with the nail gun, and also nail it too far in the valley. I noticed this as we were removing the other roofs and pointed it out, but he continued to do it the wrong way. The boss didn't think it was a big deal. Now you guessed it. Water in the house stories. First was my main house with no roof, and torrential down pours for the next 3 days! When it started my wife and I ran to Wal-Mart and purchased 3 large tarps to stop the water flow into the house. They didn't have any, and well they planned to return and finish the job before the rain so..... Now the attitude of Mr. Koppitz when he returned to finish the remaining days was very negative, and it showed in the work. The ridge vent was not properly cut. There was no opening for air flow, and when I pointed it out he ripped off the ridge cover, cut the opening too big, and refastened the damaged ridge vent poorly, and now I hear critters walking around in my attic! The worse part is the major water leak we have every time it rains. He promises to show up and never does. Now he won't answer the phone. I'm afraid the water damage is very sever now as our picture window has blown its seal, and the drywall is cracked and starting to mold. I also didn't mention he borrowed one of my tools and never returned it, drove his trailer into one of my buildings and never fixed it, and left us with a load of roofing waste. Too bad I can only post 4 pics. I would love to show you all 20 of rain coming in, random nails in exposed shingles, lost shingles, poorly fastened ride vent, but I think you get the idea. So now I had to hire an attorney and go after him the nasty way.
