Life Storage

I paid over $100 monthly for a climate controlled unit for over a decade while I was out of the US. During this time, the company was bought and sold several times and my goods were transfered to a different facility, located in a huge warehouse in which any climate control seemed to be minimal. In February, 2017, I received a notice that I had to remove all my possessions by 31 March. This was a huge inconvenience (not just to me, but to many people who had to come from distant parts of the U.S.) The task required an expensive, week-long trip to St. Louis. The facility is minimally staffed; the phone is frequently unanswered and the office is shut while the staff is working in distant parts of the storage area. Further complicating acess, the office closes for lunch, which meant I had to schedule my work around the staff's schedule. In addition, the facility provides no facilities for recycling and discourages use of their dumpster. At the end of my stay, I discovered that a very good quality room-sized carpet had been eaten from the interior by mice--and the dessicated remains of the animals were still there. The carpet is a total loss. I contacted Life Storage immediately to report the damage. It took more than a week for Mike, a supervisor, to get back to me. His response was that I had not paid extra for insurance and there was nothing he could do. He didn't even have the decency to apologize that the company's anti-pest measures were ineffective and inadequate. Let the customer beware!
