Only rating 1 because it doesn't go lower. Had a new unit installed end of Sept 24. First time power goes out on 11/5, no electricity. When tri state sells you a product, they pitch their amazing customer service with all these guarnatees of knowing when your unit is out before you know and having someone there within 24 hours etc. Well, the first call we make we are told it will be the end of Nov to get someone out to look at it. 3 weeks. Nobody shows up. Then we get a call that says "your appointment on Dec 12 has been canceled and the earliest we can get to you is Jan 16th. This is 2.5 months wait to get service to fix a nearly $20k unit, that is upcharged because of the excellent service. You can't get anyone to answer your call. you wait on hold for 20 minutes, then have to leave a voicemail in which you will not get called back. Based on my experience, find someone else and pay less. Even if the service is bad, which it can't be worse than this, you save money! @kohler

Plumber came to my house to assess work required and products that I needed to purchase in advance. Kelly Spradley returned twice to complete the job. He was excellent, and I have every intention of requesting him for future plumbing renovations that we have already discussed

I had a very simple gas hot water heater replacement project. I sent Tri-State 2 pictures of my existing water heater and piping. My water heater sits out in the open and these two pictures showed all the details required. They gave me a bid and assured me there would be no extras. After waiting a week the technician showed up told me it would be an extra $60 for a new shut off valve. I had a shut off valve, it was working correctly, it's location was correct and was clearly shown on the pictures that I sent Tri-State. Tech would not install the heater unless I agreed to the extra $60 charge and I couldn't wait another week for a different contractor. Very disappointed with the business ethics of this firm and would recommend you not use them.

Technician removed my brass water softener head and replaced it with a new composite unit. We have had a Rainsoft water softener since about 1973. We always enjoyed zero soft water. With the new head, Rainsoft considers soft water to be anything between 0-3 grains hardness. Technician called home office to verify. Our water tested out to be about 2 grains hard. If you are use to zero soft water, 2 is too high. Ended up, after several service calls from RainSoft, we purchasing a new system from one of their competitors, and once again, are enjoying zero water hardness.

I am so happy I went with this company. The wiring to my old hot water heater needed replaced in order for my new hot water heater to function properly. They explained everything to me and I was able to have an electrician update wiring. Tri State returned quickly and completed the job. I felt like the work was done as if it was in his own home. Everyone I dealt with was very professional and prompt. I will use them again!

Just fine. This installation was through Home Depot where we bought the Rheem water heater.

This was a sales pitch, but that was not what I was expecting AT ALL. I was contacted by the company and asked if I wanted to have my water tested, so that is what I thought I was having done.  I became slightly suspicious when the day before the "test," a representative from the company called and said my husband needed to be present during the demonstration.  Demonstration?  What demonstration?
Well, it was a demonstration.  Over three hours (YES -- if only I had billed for those hours, I'm sure it could have gone more quickly!) of my Saturday time was completely wasted.
The water-softening system (they don't call it a water softener, but that's basically what it is) probably is very good, but while I was considering doing my research and maybe even purchasing the system (even though they tricked me), I lost ALL interest when I learned I had to make the decision THAT DAY to get the special pricing and the "free" annual supply of laundry soap.  When the pressure is that high, there probably is something wrong.
The sales representative (they call themselves something else, like water treatment engineers or some silliness) was quite well-trained and very personable.  Good enough that I considered looking into the system further until she started with that "you must buy today" part of the pitch.  At that point, I knew none of it was sincere.  Just a good old-fashioned bait and switch.

They called to schedule something immediately saying we could get a $30 Home Depot card instead of a $20 one (we have not received the email yet with the gift card).  We were told it would be 30-45 minutes.  It was over 2 1/2 hours, which meant our 11 month old was up late, we weren't getting dinner and the entire evening was shot.  The sales pitch part lasted over an hour with them trying to justify the cost of the unit by indicating how much money we would save on soaps, detergents etc.  They also wanted to give us a free 6 year supply of soaps so we had to spend time looking at those scents and smelling them before it became clear that we didn't get that offer if we didn't sign that evening.
I will say when we said that we had to think about things she was not high pressure sales.  However, $5,000+ for a home system is incredibly high and given reviews I have read on line there are random other costs that can crop up as well.
Overall, a waste of our weekend and we are looking for a different solution.

A nice woman showed up at the appointed time the day after a heavy snow. We were surprised at her dedication until we realized that the purpose was a sales pitch for a very expensive product. She was very good at describing the advertised advantages of her product.

Apparently they only work through Home depot for water heater installations.  From the phone calls before hand to make sure I understood what would be done, at what cost, explaining the process and details, and advising me of possible variations ahead of time, to the tremendous efficiency and professionalism of the young man that installed the water heater, it was amazing.  When a small glitch developed a few days later with my humidifier, they immediately sent someone out to check on it, to determine if it was from the installation and disturbance to the water line to the humidifier.  They determined that it was, and fixed the problem immediately, and at no extra charge.  They immediately followed through with arranging to have the city inspection performed to get the city ok that it was installed properly.   Quick, efficient and professional.

We really like it. They did a really nice job. We kind of feel like the price were a little high. We kind of went a cut under the whole package that was offered to us. We didn’t accept that. It was pretty pricy for what we got. If we are in a position to have to do this again, we might look at another product because of the pricing.

I had a Rainsoft water softener for a few years and it hasn't been used for the last couple of years so I wanted to get a tune-up and get it working again. I called Tri-State and the guy on the phone assured me that it would be no big deal to get it running again. When the tech came out it was a different story. After taking it apart, it needed so many parts that it would be almost as much as buying a new one. (HUNDREDS AND HUNDREDS of dollars)!!! I said I had a lifetime warranty, but they told me that the parts that were bad were NOT covered by the warranty....how convenient! The lady I talked to on the phone was very rude and demeaning when I challenged her about the "lifetime warranty". Well, I told them that I didn't want to fix it or buy a new one. So, they had the audacity to send me a bill for a "service call". I challenged them on this, but they insisted I must pay for a service call. I reluctantly sent the payment today.
I purchased a inexpensive Whirlpool water softener from Lowes back in February and am VERY HAPPY!!!! It uses so much less salt and the water feels incredible!!
So, in conclusion, save yourself a bundle of money by NOT purchasing a Rainsoft water softener, and if you have an older one that has problems, DO NOT let them "get it working"...you will be sorry.
