We called the owner and left a message to review the issue and talk through the problem, but he was unavailable to speak with us and we left a message, however, he never returned our phone call.
We grade them D on price because we received no value for the $500 we paid this company.
We grade them F on quality because their diagnosis and repair were poor and completely inaccurate.
We grade them F on responsiveness because the owner failed to return our phone call and they did not appear at the time promised, and did not call in advance of coming to install the control panel. For the same reasons we grade them D on punctuality.
We grade them F on professionalism because they were completely inaccurate in their diagnosis and the owner's failure to return our phone call is a genuine indicator of a lack of professionalism.
Took my money and did nothing.

While the repairman and the repair itself was great, the cost was steep. Of the $272 price tag, $212 of that was labor. I didn't want to make a mistake with a gas appliance, and the work done was excellent, it's still very expensive. (The cost of a comparable, new cooktop would have been over $1500 (without installation), so I bit the bullet.
I then called Appliance Solutions, the other company in St. Louis authorized by Sub-Zero to do warranty work, to get a second opinion. Their technician spent considerably more time inspecting the refrigerator than the man from St. Louis Appliance Repair, and after an hour he said that the evaporators and compressors were fine. He said that the problem was with a different component of the unit and that fixing it would be a one-man, 90-minute job (not a two-man, 5-hour job). What really amazed me, though, was that he confirmed that the Sub-Zero warranty covers parts for 12 years, but he said that it also covers parts AND LABOR for the first five years! In other words, the entire repair, including parts and labor, would be covered under warranty! In fact, even the diagnostic visit that day was covered by the warranty -- I would not have to pay a thing. I told him to order the necessary part, which he returned to install two weeks later, and now my refrigerator works perfectly.
St. Louis Appliance Repair Group COMPLETELY misdiagnosed the problem with my refrigerator, and not by a small amount. They wanted to charge me $1700 for a completely unnecessary repair -- after which I still would have been left with a broken refrigerator. But what I find completely unacceptable is that a company authorized by Sub-Zero to perform repairs does not even understand how the Sub-Zero warranty works! Even if they had correctly diagnosed the problem with my unit, there should have been no charge to me (including the diagnostic visit) because the unit was still under a parts and labor warranty, being less than five years old.
After my refrigerator was fixed by Appliance Solutions, I called St. Louis Appliance Repair Group and asked to speak with a manager about getting a refund for the diagnostic fee that should not have been charged to me, and the woman who answered the phone asked me to tell her my story. I did, and also told her that the Sub-Zero website has a clear description of its warranty, including the fact that units less than five years old were covered for parts AND LABOR, and she told me that I was wrong and that I must have looked at the wrong web site. (Right... Sub-Zero probably has many different official web sites.) So I called Sub-Zero directly, and they confirmed for me that the unit was covered for parts AND LABOR for the first five years, and that St. Louis Appliance Repair should NOT have charged me, even for the diagnostics visit. She said she would call St. Louis Appliance Repair to clarify to them how the Sub-Zero warranty works. I called St. Louis Appliance Repair back to inform them of this, and this time the woman I spoke with was very snippy and demanded to know the name of the Sub-Zero representative with whom I spoke (like I would have made it up!). I told her I wanted a manager to call me back, and I am still waiting to hear from one.
In summary, not only did St. Louis Appliance Repair Group try to charge me $1700 for a repair that should have been covered by a parts and labor warranty, they were going to charge me that amount to fix the WRONG THING! And they improperly charged me a $90 diagnostics fee that ALSO should have been covered by warranty. The office staff was argumentative and would not believe me when I told them that the Sub-Zero warranty covered parts and labor for five years.
Update 6/25/12: I received a refund check for the diagnostics fee I was charged.
