First, let me get to the packing services provided for me. They showed up soon after I was told they would, and I got an immediate negative response. They said they were quoted for about 30 boxes, and with all this stuff, they would need 130 boxes. They were also slightly irritated with my estimate claiming "they should send us out here instead of a guy who doesn't know anything". Things were very poorly labeled. Upon unpacking I found a box in my garage labeled "misc" only to find my entire closet of shoes, and only shoes in it. Another box, labeled "tea sets" upon being opened was full of mason jars individually packed, even though they were already in their respective boxes. I would have found that as trying to keep things in tact from breakage, except it looked like they gave up wrapping each jar individual because there was a full box, in its original box (just as the other 3 boxes of jars had been). All in all, they used 45 boxes, not 130. There were several items they flat out refused to pack, and told me I would have to put it in my car. Some of them I understood; paint, flammables, etc. But I could not understand why they'd not pack my computer. They seemed put out when I told them to bubble wrap my tv (after refusing to pack it) and put it in a frame box. When they were done, they left a lot of trash for me to clean up. I picked up empty tape rolls, extra paper, and they even left unused boxes which would have been billed to me. I sent the unused boxes with the moving crew so that I would not be billed.
The moving crew, when they did show up, seemed quite efficient at their job by starting on the garage since it was packed and ready. However my husband was not impressed with how rough they handled his fishing poles, so he asked to take them with him instead. After about 2 hours, they took a break for lunch. I am sure there is a labor law stating to only work so many hours, but they had JUST gotten there and I was in a major time crunch due to their delays. By 8pm (much later than when my keys were due) they had finally finished. We closed on the new house the following day, and on July 31, they showed up at 9am to unload. Most everything going into our new house was going either to the garage or the basement. Because of that, I had the upstairs carpets cleaned at the same time. If they did walk on the carpet, they were asked to wear booties. Only one crew member did, but then continued to walk on the dirty concrete as well, so I am not sure what good that did. They wheeled out our stainless steel stove, for us to find they had put a major dent in the top of it somehow. We pointed it out right away, and they noted it. Another issue, one of my closet doors in the basement was knocked off its slider and they could not get it put back on, because they dented up the rail. Upon more looking around, our smoker's leg was bent and the smoke stack smashed. We did a final check off, to make sure all the items made it, and lo and behold there were two things that did not. A set of very expensive flood lights didn't make it on the truck and a camcorder tripod. (Later on, I found out that the lights were left in the driveway, and then as you would suspect, taken since the old house was now vacant) During the move-in, a man came out to let me know they were checking in, had heard about our stove and would take care of the claim. The crew left trash for me to clean up, some things I found a month later (booties that one of the members wore). My husband came home from work early to keep an eye on them as he felt they were quite unprofessional.
I received a call from the move coordinator, checking with me the following day and promising to send me a survey and claim form to be filled out. By August 13, I had waited long enough and sent an email to the coordinator. I waited another 3 days, and called instead. She claimed she never got my email but sent the claim form out that day. I filled out the claim form and returned it. Two months after my move, and I haven't heard a single thing from anyone there after August 16 when the form was sent out. I was told an adjuster would be out immediately back on July 31. I still haven't gotten word back. I don't know if I just have crappy luck, or this was a fluke couple of days, or if this company is really that unreliable. Since I am not moving again anytime soon, I cannot give them another chance to see if it was in fact a fluke. All I can go by is my one time experience and the events that happened to me, and that was not so awesome. I wish I could give a nicer review.
"Fry-Wagner's records do not show our St. Louis branch completed any move for a customer by the name of [member name removed], and we have not serviced a move this year (or in years prior) - at this specific address listed. We respectfully request this rating and associated comments be removed from our online Angie's List records."
The only glitch was that a specialized team was to dismantle and then put together the sleep number bed. They were to come on the 13th (per what I was told) but did not come until the 14th. They sent three men from Indianapolis (75 miles) to take the bed apart, which was WAY more than needed. No one showed up to put the bed back together (which was really more likely to need a specialized team). They were an independent contractor, and Joanie (are contact person at Fry-Wagner) expressed concern and said she would look into it.
I had never used a moving company before and was a bit overwhelmed by the speed with which the packing and, then, the unloading went. I was a bit overwhelmed. A few things which should have been left got packed - but I was not disappointed about the speed, just unprepared.
WE HIRED FRY-WAGNER UNITED VAN LINES TO MOVE OUR PERSONAL PROPERTY FROM OUR MISSOURI HOME TO OUR NEW MEXICO HOME. THEY MANAGED TO DAMAGE & LOSE NEARLY EVERYTHING WE OWN AND DAMAGED BOTH PROPERTIES AT THE MISSOURI HOME & NEW MEXICO HOME. THE EMPLOYEES OF THIS COMPANY TOOK OUR SIGNED PAPERWORK,ALTERED OUR SIGNED DOCUMENTS, LIED ABOUT STEALING THE PAPERWORK & THEN MAILED ME COPIES OF MY PAPERWORK 6 WEEKS LATER AFTER COMMITTING FRAUD AND ALTERING THE DOCUMENTS. THEY LIED ABOUT DAMAGING OUR HOMES. THE EMPLOYEES STOLE OUR PROPERTY & THEN INTENTIONALLY FAILED TO PROPERLY RECORD OUR PROPERTY ON THE INVENTORY PAPERWORK ACCURATELY. ON THE MOVING DAY THE EMPLOYEES CALLED THEIR SUPERVISOR TO REPORT THEY DID NOT HAVE ENOUGH FURNITURE BLANKETS AND HAD A TRUCK THAT WAS TOO SMALL TO FIT ALL OF OUR PROPERTY. THEY SUPERVISOR TOLD THEM & THEN ADVISED ME THAT THEY WOULD JUST HAVE TO MAKE IT WORK WITH THE SMALLER TRUCK. THEY SHOVED EVERYTHING WE OWNED INTO A TRUCK THAT WAS TOO SMALL WHICH CAUSED A LOT OF THE DAMAGE.THE CLAIMS REPRESENTATIVE IS TREATING OUR CLAIM LIKE SOME SORT OF AUCTION OR FLEA MARKET. THEY DID NOT DO THE JOB WE HIRED THEM TO DO. IT HAS BEEN NEARLY 2 YEARS & WE ARE NOW HAVING TO HIRE AN ATTORNEY AND WILL PROBABLY HAVE TO FILE SUIT FOR PROPER REIMBURSEMENT. THEY ARE DENYING PAYING FOR OUR DAMAGES & LOSS WHICH IS BASED ON THE MISTAKES OF THE EMPLOYEES OF FRY WAGNER/UNITED VAN LINES. I WAITED TO SUBMIT THIS REVIEW OF UNITED VAN LINES/FRY WAGNER BECAUSE I WAS HOPING THEY WOULD PROVIDE A BETTER LEVEL OF CUSTOMER SERVICE WITH THE CLAIMS PROCESS THAN THEY DID WITH OUR MOVE. TO DATE THEY HAVE NOT SETTLED OUR CLAIM OR MADE ANY ATTEMPT TO OFFER US A FAIR SETTLEMENT.
DO NOT USE UNITED VAN LINES FRY WAGNER MOVING AND STORAGE IF YOU VALUE YOUR PROPERTY!!!!!
"This is a completely false and slanderous review of Fry-Wagner's performance on this move. This customer moved with Fry-Wagner in June 2010 with a total move cost of $5,447.06. At no time during the relocation did Fry-Wagner receive any notification from this customer that there was theft. She had mentioned a lost notebook, and it was searched for upon delivery by our Driver and crew but could not be found. Had an allegation of theft been raised during the move, Fry-Wagner and United Van Lines would have immediately requested her to contact the police. Given these allegations are now being raised nearly 2 years later, it is very difficult to validate. A claim form was mailed to the customer the day the property damage was reported (June 23, 2010). Fry-Wagner paid $225 for property repairs within days of the damage report. Eight months later (March 29, 2011) the customer submitted a claim for transit damage in the amount of $39,503. Due to this large dollar amount, United Van Lines requires their Home Office Claims Department process the claim, and therefore immediately removed Fry-Wagner from this process. From March 29, 2011 until June 4, 2011 the customer would not allow an Inspector in her home to view the items that were allegedly damaged (she cancelled 3 appointments). United Van Lines offered a proposed settlement on June 23, 2011 to the customer, and requested proof of value on several items. However, several weeks went by and this individual could not provide any type of proof of value (receipts, proof of purchase) to validate several of the large claimed $ amounts. On September 1, 2011, United Van Lines, despite this critical missing information and lack of response by this customer, sent a final proposed claim settlement letter of $19,670.50 with a signed Release of Claim document. No response was received from the customer until February 2012. At that time, this customer filed a rebuttal of select claimed items, at which time United Van Lines adjusted the claim amount to $21,722.50. On March 6, 2012, United Van Lines received a notice from her attorney demanding $67,288.51. As a result, United Van Lines secured their own Legal representation and will be working through their Attorney from this point forward. Fry-Wagner demands this review be removed from our record for many of these baseless allegations as well as the fact that the settlement process - the crux of this individual's anger and frustration, rests with United Van Lines - not Fry-Wagner Moving & Storage."

"We have just recently been made aware of your posting on Angie's List and would like to take this opportunity to address your comments. The carrier (United Van Lines) handled your claim for loss/damage and our records indicate that you received a check for $647 sent to you via US Mail on October 1, 2010. This check represented the reimbursement for items that were not repairable that you list in your report. In addition, the carrier sent you a second check for $750 for the delay in delivery of your items - this check was sent on November 1, 2010, also via US Mail. We truly regret that your move did not go as smoothly as what you were promised. At Fry-Wagner, we pride ourselves in our service quality and providing a seamless transition for our customers – the last thing we want to do is make your relocation more stressful. If you have any outstanding issues you would like to address with me directly, please contact me at 314.291.4100 extension 353. Sue Pyles, Director of Service Quality"
