Silver Maple Farm

Wonderful experience. Happy dog going in. Happy clean dog coming out. Smelled good and soft to touch. Love the family-type atmosphere and long-term employees.

I have a good feeling about them.

We have used them four or five times. It was a little pricey. We boarded two dogs and had them both groomed over a weekend. The cost may have been like $300. They are trustworthy. They do a good job with our dogs. The workers I came in to contact with were about 3 or 4. They always remember our dogs right away and our dogs names. I can't think of anything they should work on.

I have a husky with an attitude, and they were very good with him. He gets nervous easily, but he came back to me as sassy as ever, but smelling much better.

The dog was adopted in March from a local shelter.  She had been rescued in January from a hoarder and was just getting acclimated to a normal life and loving home so I was especially concerned about boarding her.  I got friends' recommendations for and visited several local facilities to check them personally.  I concluded that Silver Maple was the best choice for my dog because of its history, the relative stability of its staff (Pam, the manager, has been there many years;  someone (the owner, I believe) lives on site; and other staff I spoke with had been there for several years).  I liked the detail provided me on the tour, the questions I was asked about my dog, and the sense I got that she would be well cared for.  She did very well on her "trial" stay and I was pleased with the way the staff interacted with her both when I dropped her off and picked her up, so I scheduled her longer stay feeling confident it would be a good experience.  On both occasions I called to check on her and got detailed reports from Pam or Lauren.  And Pam saw that she didn't eat her dinner one night, she mixed some broth in to entice the dog to eat and that was successful.  I think my dog received appropriate and sufficient attention and I definitely will use Silver Maple again.  I also felt that their fees were very reasonable (an Angie's List coupon helped, but the costs would've been ok anyway).

As a first-time dog owner, I was nervous about leaving my puppy at a kennel, and I interviewed and visited 3-4 facilities, including the facility where my dog trains. Ultimately I picked Silver Maple because of its personnel and the warm feel of the place, as well as the absolute cleanliness of the facilities (not easy in a building of this age - they are the oldest kennel in St. Louis, founded around 1935). In every visit and with every phone call, everyone has been warm, helpful, patient, and accommodating - and excited to welcome my dog. They recommended care based on his size - meaning they were honest about waiting to put him in large group play sessions until he is older and able to "hold his own" - and they kept a very close eye on his behaviors and habits throughout his visit. I called once to check in (they encouraged me to call any time), and they were reassuring as they provided detailed, personal information about his days. I especially appreciated the price break they gave on play times as we got him settled in for this first away-from-home experience.
This kennel feels like more of a home than a kennel, and I really appreciate that. I look forward to a long relationship with Silver Maple Farm.

I used them several times.  They are very good and they took care of my dog however, they are expensive but otherwise I have no complains.

I have used Silver Maple Farm for my dog's care since I moved to the area 7 years ago.  It is like leaving my dog in the care of a trusted friend or family member.  Many of the same employees are still there after 7 years.  They have always offered superior service, and once kindly accommodated my dog at the last minute due to an emergency.   The business is operated with the highest degree of professionalism.  The most recent time that I used them, I was delayed for over 24 hours due to winter weather.  When I arrived to retrieve my dog, I was not charged for the extra day (even though I fully and fairly expected to pay for it).  It should be noted that my dog is a large mixed-breed, and he is rather high maintenance.  The staff handle him graciously and affectionately, and he appears to enjoy his time there (judging that he is always eager and non-hesitant to return).  I also like their grooming services.  My dog is returned clean, shiny, and smelling nice (but not overpowering).  I give Silver Maple Farm my highest recommendation. 

They are a great group of down to earth dog lovers and hard workers.  I love their attitude towards their jobs.  They take responsibility seriously.
My two dogs are pretty big dogs.  They stay in a large compartment witch has a long run attached to it for the dogs to get out at least two hours a day to check out other dogs, while protected inside their own run.
My two get a small amount of playtime in a separate play yard each day.
They are groomed the day we come to pick them up- always look very spiffy!
This place is NOT fancy- we have had our dogs at commercially modern places more than once- yes, I liked the TV in their room and the afternoon ice cream cone- but that was really for me, not them.   I'm happier with Silver Maple Farm for the dogs.

My dogs are always happy to go there. They are very responsible and do a good job. They also handle situations really well and are very honest about them. They are also careful about making sure they get all the dogs immunization records before taking them in. They are inexpensive for the good quality in grooming that they do too.

The dog seems to like it there and I am real picky about the dog and I have never had any problems. The staff seems very caring and well informed and the dog seem to have fun. I have her brushed every day and she gets extra feeding. They charge you for extra stuff and I get her the extra stuff. She has been groomed there, but I have them brush her everyday and I also have them feed her twice a day. When you get things from them you pay extra they can walk them and the can let them have play yard time or whatever, but she doesn't like being around other dog so sometimes they just have walk her. I really really love this service because I trust them with my dog. You can call them anytime and ask about your dog I just wish they were open on Sundays. I would use them again.

We are always uneasy about boarding our dogs: they crave human interaction and attention. Silver Maple Farm did a superb job in keeping our boys happy. We were on an extended holiday and worried about leaving the dogs for so long, the longest time we had ever boarded them. We need not have worried, Silver Maple staff is terrific.

We had previously boarded our dogs at a competitor's kennel and, when we collected our dogs, we learned that one of our dogs had shimmied under a dog bed, which was only a few inches off the floor, and spent hours under there. This is not how this dog ever behaves- he is a happy, loving dog, who craves attention from humans. Both dogs seemed unhappy and clinging when we first got home.

Our dogs have always had a very different time at Silver Maple. The staff is wonderful. You can walk back and see where your dog(s) will be staying. It's clear the staff truly loves their boarders, and our dogs clearly love them!

Perhaps the most important and salient thing to add here is that, the day before we boarded the dogs, our older dog threw his back out. We took him to the vet straight away and received medication. Our trip was a "once in a lifetime" holiday we could not change. We explained the situation to the staff, gave her the number of our veterinarian and gave her the dog's medication. We were still anxious about leaving him in that condition. Silver Maple came through ! We spoke to them over the next few days, from Barcelona, Spain and they reassured us about our dog's condition, which was fine after those few days. Then we could relax and enjoy the balance of our travels. They were very considerate and always gave us many details about now the boys were faring.

Silver Maple Farm is a professional, efficient and, most important, a loving place to board your pets. Their grooming is terrific also, and is competitively priced. We would recommend this kennel without any hesitation. Our boys always come home healthy and happy!

I'm not sure if we would use them again. The facility wasn't as nice as we were hoping and the price was a little higher than we were hoping. We used them for boarding and also for grooming.

This is the second time we've boarded our dog at Silver Maple Farms.  Both times, our dog has come up clean and happy.  The employees are professional and responsive.  We will continue using them.

This was my third experience with Silver Maple.  I have always found them courteous and helpful.  This time the experience was uneventful.  The staff seemed to care very much about dogs and in particular my dogs. They were kept together in one ample kennel with fresh bedding which they provided.  In the past they have shown concern about my dogs eating habits and condition.
I found them more attentive and caring then at least three of their competitors.

We did considerable shopping around, including looking at kennels and boarders that had doggy day care. Because he had recent knee surgery, our dog wasn't able to run or jump and had to be walked on a leash. He also hasn't done well in a doggy day care environment and we didn't want to board him in a place that put the dogs in crates or that didn't have 1-on-1 care available. We asked our vet for a couple of recommendations and Silver Maple Farms was the place he said he boarded his own personal dogs. We visited the kennel and got a very thorough tour. The owner was also more than willing to work with us to find the best accommodations for our dog based on his needs.
We really liked the fact that our dog would get a larger space (he's over 70#) and would get three walks a day. We paid for an extra 10 minutes of play time for an additional walk since he couldn't run and jump yet following his surgery but needed some extra exercise to keep off the boredom. After the five days, the staff stated that with the 3 walks he was having trouble making it through another walk, so the staff spent some 1-on-1 time giving him extra attention in his kennel. We liked the fact that we were not just allowed but were also encouraged to bring his personal bedding, toys, and food. If we need to board him in the future, we like the fact that he would have an enclosed run to himself where he could see and interact with other dogs without being in the same enclosure - he does well with other dogs separated by a fence but not together. We will absolutely bring him back if we need to board him again.

I have two little jack russells and I used to take them there years ago, then I started having family members watch them. As they got older, though, I started to get concerned and I wanted them in an indoor room. I have two elderly dogs and one is almost blind. They treat them like they are their babies instead of mine. They carried them up and down the stairs. One has bad skin allergies and the lady who runs the place took him to the vet and gave him an oatmeal bath. They then brought him back and put him in an indoor room. They are great. The place is an older place but the people and the surroundings are wonderful. Top notch in professionalism. They are reasonable in their prices. I will be using them again in September.

They are excellent.

The people are always nice. They greet him by name. They offer all kinds of extra services. If you want to have play time you can pay and get extra play time. We like him to get fed twice a day and they're willing to do that. They're really nice. He's always happy when he goes there. We go back all the time. They also have grooming services. Another nice thing is that when we board him we can get him groomed at the same time.

My dog has stayed in the luxury villas at Silver Maple Farms twice now.  She gets walked 3 times per day and you can pay a little extra for playtime.  I pay for her to have a bath before I pick her up.  She comes home looking better than she did when I dropped her off and she seems to like it there.  They tell me how well she ate and rave about how wonderful she is.  I have to admit I wonder if they tell everyone their dog is amazing but I really appreciate the attention they pay to my dog's well being.  I've used other kennels, cheaper kennels, and was very disappointed in the care they took of my dog.  I have nothing but good things to say about Silver Maple Farms.  Yes, it's more expensive than some kennels but you truly get what you pay for. 

You can drop in anytime they're open and they'll gladly give you a tour.  I did that before I left my dog in their care and was very impressed with how clean it was and with the attention to details during your dog's stay.
