Their service was good. They were very friendly.

It is important to support local independent music shops, and I can't say enough good things about School Music. 
I found them at their old location by word of mouth when my son was learning French Horn in middle school; thus we rented a French Horn from them for two years.  I found their rates reasonable, and service to be quite attentive as they cleaned and fixed the inevitable stuck valves and assorted (gulp) dents.  Renting school instruments seems to be their "bread and butter".
Upon School Music's recommendation, I also bought my favorite guitar so far, a little Hofner Bass, like the one Paul McCartney used when he was young.  People told me not to buy it, but I did anyway, and love it, and now musicians ask me about it all the time.  I don't think you can get the Hofners anymore, of good quality, as the company is having some issues with production.
Support your local independent music stores, or else I fear our collective cultural American heritage will consist of standing in the same long line at big box stores, waiting to transact with people who know nothing about music, selling us cheap instruments, cheaply made.
