I had him install a stairway railing, that he made about a foot shorter than I requested (approximately 15%) on each segment (it is a two-segment stairway). I specifically walked out and showed him where I wanted the starting and ending point, but he ended it a full riser lower than requested.
I had him install an ice maker line for my refrigerator, but I still don't have ice. In fairness to him, it is possible that it is the refrigerator and not the line he installed, as the fridge came with the house and I'm not sure what is the problem.
Based on the work he performed, I was expecting a bill of around $1200, plus parts of maybe $200. My total was $1900, with no breakdown of how he calculated the costs.
"Dear Member In response to your review I am sorry that you were dissatisfied with your project. In 14 years you are the second displeased person out of thousands of jobs. I would like to be able to satisfy you but some people are just happy being unhappy, and if the quality of work was so bad why would you call my employees and try to hire them behind my back? I will be glad to fix or change any of my work to your liking but my company will not be employed by you again. As for the bill I consider $1900 a bargain with the amount of work that was performed, I would love to see another reliable company do it for less. Just to put it into perspective here is a list of some of the work. 1- remove and eliminate electrical circuit from pool area. 2- fix short in electrical circuit in wood stove area. 3- Remove bathtub and shower surround, re-route plumbing, install new shower stall, sliding doors, faucets, drains, replace sheetrock, etc. 4- move laundry room from basement to second story of house, including hot and cold water and electric. 5- cut to fit and install 2 pairs of bi-fold doors. 6- install 2 new shelving units above washer and dryer. 7- purchase and install new icemaker line and saddle valve. 8- patch and repair approximately 15-20 holes in wall from electrical boxes, cable boxes, seams, etc. 9- install and stain 2 pieces hand rail. 10- move water line so dishwasher would fit and install new dishwasher. 11- rewire and move electrical and install over the range microwave. 12- install ceiling fan in office. 13- install 2 new medicine cabinets, move mirrors from one bath to another and new light in lower bath. 14- assemble and install towel pantry in bathroom. 15- assemble and install new toilet. 16- install one new sink and 3 new faucets, pop-up assemblies, and supply lines. 17- install new shower faucet in lower bath. 18- install solar security lights. 19- assemble bedroom furniture. 20- remove clog and repair drain lines to furnace. Not only was this work performed plus a lot more, it was all on last minute notice and had to be done at night away from our families because we were not hired until after the painters and tile layers had already started. Also included in the $1900 was all the sheet rock, tape, mud, corners, shower drain, ice maker line kit, glue, cleaner, shut off valve, misc. electrical, caulking, plumbers putty, teflon tape, and most all of the plumbing and fittings for showers, drain lines and moving the laundry room. The shower neck did leak, because the rubber was cracked. The top edge of the shower was not caulked because the painter was painting as I was finishing and you cannot paint wet silicone. The stair rails were installed to the last stud for 16 inches and the rails would have looked awkward another 32 inches long. I did cut into the cabinet and offered to fix it, and was told by the customer that it was not necessary because that was where cookbooks were going. I apologize for that. I wish you the best of luck with the rest of your remodel. Thank You, Jody Bunch Rocking Chair Construction"
Jody is a very busy local contractor. He found time to meet with us to determine the parameters and budget for the job. We agreed on a day to start the work. He and his helper arrived on time ready to begin work. He took the time to insure that I understood and was in full agreement with his methods.
Work progressed throught the day with only a short break for lunch on site.
All work was completed on time and on budget.
Rocking Chair Construction is a recommended General Contractor on Angie's List, with good reason. Good work, completed on time and on budget is hard to find today. His estimate was very reasonable, several hundred dollars lower than the next best bid. He met that estimate and did excellant work.
I recommend him for any that want good work at a reasonable cost.
