The Strand Salon & Spa

I've been going to Shannon at the Strand for highlights/lowlights and hair cuts since I moved to Columbia in April 2014. I really just lucked into finding a great stylist on my first try by reading online reviews! I have hair past my shoulders. Shannon does a great job with my color and cuts, but recently I decided I wanted something slightly different, and she was happy to make an adjustment to my high- and lowlights. I have been so pleased with the results. 
It is necessary to make appointments for Shannon several weeks in advance, which is typical for stylists that are good at what they do. One time when I was unable to make my scheduled appointment, however, she was very accommodating, staying later than usual one evening to work me in. Everyone I come into contact with in the salon, from the receptionist on up, is professional. The salon's recent remodel includes a huge new lobby/waiting area with lots of tempting retail offerings. I am always offered something to drink when I arrive. The salon is clean, modern and well decorated. I am satisfied with the cost of services. The salon offers numerous additional services, including manicure/pedicures, lashes, etc. I'm so happy I found the Strand when I moved to Columbia, and Shannon is wonderful.

Keeley is clearly the Strand's go-to stylist for DevaCuts, and rightly so, because her head of beautiful curls makes me envious. Keeley is very nice and friendly as well as professional, and I have been pleased with every haircut I've received from her since my sister recommended her a few years ago. The price is comparable to other salons in the area, at least for the wash, cut, and style. I think my favorite part of the DevaCut is that they do not try to blow out my hair and style it up in some ridiculous fashion before I leave, and the products they use do not make me smell like chemicals for the rest of the day. My hair still looks marvelous when I leave, of course, and way better than I would do at home. But I have often felt that I couldn't tell whether I'd had a good or bad cut until I'd gone home, washed my hair, and styled it myself. Because the cut and products and styling are so natural to my hair, it's immediately obvious that it's a good cut, and it looks like my hair, just better.I like the Strand in general, though it is not in a very convenient location for me. It's also a salon that works hard to peddle that specific kind of refined glamour that salons like to have, which makes me feel like a total dork when I step in the door and as if I should be escorted off the premises. But I've been to other salons that had a pretty snooty attitude in addition to the ambiance, and I find the people at the Strand to be pretty friendly overall. So it's a good experience overall.

I like the way that they do to my hair, and sometimes they do services for free.
