Westco Security & Technology Systems, Inc, was founded in 1983 by Robert Farb. Based in Chesterfield, Missouri, Westco initially began as a one-man operation and since then has grown to over 4,000 customers in the Metro St. Louis area as well as Lake of the Ozarks & Columbia Missouri. Westco Security & Technology Systems serves both the commercial and residential markets to provide custom designed and professionally installed systems to any client, large or small. Westco uses only UL approved equipment in our security division and only the top names in integration, home audio, system integration equipment and media / theater systems. Quality is in everything we do. From the best equipment to the most highly trained staff, Westco can assure you that we install it right the first time. In order to keep up with the changing face of technology and maintain the highest standards in the industry, Westco is an active member in the Better Business Bureau (BBB), Certified Builders’ Guild (CBG), Electronic Security Association (ESA), the St. Louis Alarm Association as well as the Missouri Alarm Association, and CEDIA. Our St. Louis based 24/7 alarm monitoring center is recognized as a Five Star Diamond facility by the Central Station Association. The professionals at our central station are trained under the guidelines of Underwriter’s Laboratory. We are listed by Underwriters Lab (UL) for Burglary, Fire and UUFX monitoring. This insures the most secure automated monitoring available in our market today. We offer both wired and wireless monitoring solutions for your home or business. Our Central Station is one of the few local area companies to meet such stringent requirements and be awarded these designations. "Equipment failures such as yours are the reason we put an emphasis on testing the systems monthly, so much so that it is on every invoice we send out. Your safety and the safety of all our customers is extremely important to us. We need both the end user and our monitoring center to provide the proper level of protection. Because your system is over 25 years old, we must rely on you in helping stay on top of your system functioning properly by testing on a regular basis. I understand your frustration with the telephone dialing change, however, if you would have tested your system weekly as the manual states or even monthly as we have recommended, you would have found that the system was not functioning properly well before the time you had called us. Your keypad also alerts you to any technical issues your system is encountering. It is important to be aware of the codes displayed and act on them. We are unable to monitor diagnostics of the older systems in the field as they do not have the technology the newer systems have to provide us diagnostic data upon a trouble and or failure. While we cannot get parts to support your system any longer, we continue to provide service when called. We do the same for all our customers. We offer service plans that provide testing of your system on a periodic basis and based on the plan selected will send a technician out as well. We no longer use phone lines for new alarm system installations, all systems are digitally monitored via the cellular data network and / or the internet. As technology evolves, updating equipment becomes required more often than not. Our monitoring center is ready to accept any signal it receives from your security panel on a 24 hour / 7 day per week basis. Alarm monitoring fees cover this on-call reactive service. When a legitimate signal is received from your security panel, our central station will take the appropriate action."

The cost seemed awfully high.
"Thanks for your feedback! Unfortunately, in rare instances the equipment we receive from the manufacture is defective out of the box and needs to be replaced. This was one of those circumstances. I hope you understand and we appreciate your business!"
The technician was very apologetic and told us he expected his company would repair the drywall. However, when we contacted his boss to get a repair scheduled, we were told that the contract says that they may "need to cut holes in the drywall" - so they will not be repairing this accidental hole in our bathroom.
While the wiring work itself was OK - we are left with a hole in our bathroom - partially filled with silicone - that we will need to foot the bill to repair ourselves.
In my opinion - there is a vast difference between an intentional/necessary hole in drywall and an on-the-job mistake that accidentally damages the personal property of a customer. Companies should stand behind both their work and their mistakes - but this company did not.
"While we are sorry this incident happened, we state in all our proposals that any drywall repair, if required, is the homeowners responsibility. We also make it clear when we are bidding the job with the homeowners, that holes can result while installing the required device. We do not hide the fact that working in existing structures, there is an unknown element we need to work with. It is impossible for us to know what is behind the drywall and hitting a nail in this case, was beyond anyones control. We are one of the few custom installation companies that will attempt this type of work and not just run wire on the outside of the house into the room requested. We take pride in our work and hire the most qualified installation staff in our market. I certainly hope that this homeowner can understand our companies position and reevaluate recommending us to others."
