SMELLY DOG

I have been using this groomer for a while. They are always quick and friendly. I like that the dogs are NOT caged unless necessary. One of my dogs needs to be sometimes, he is happier that way. 
I had a special case because my Maltese was injured (ruptured ACL) but needed grooming. I explained the injury and the groomer thought she could handle it.  My dog came out great and had no problems. I will definitely use them again.

They did a great job. My older, larger, long-haired dog had a lot of mats and need some serious grooming. I called on a Friday, got a Saturday appt, and they did a fabulous job. He looks and smells great, and they called me part way through to give an update and ask a question. Very pleased and will go back.

It's been a number of years since I was at Smelly Dog--I just put in January 2007 because I can't remember the exact date--and obviously things can change. I can only tell you my experience.
My mom dropped off my English Cocker Spaniel for grooming. When she went to pick him up and drove home, she realized that he STUNK. Apparently, while waiting to be picked up, he'd and quot;absorbedand quot; some sort of smell from the surrounding ungroomed animals, is the best we can figure. Or maybe the holding area was soiled. Not really sure.
My mom had to actually re-bathe the dog at home, and then she called me to explain what had happened.I called Smelly Dog and asked to speak to someone about the situation.I was told someone would call back, but no one ever called. Between the poor grooming experience and the lack of follow-up from this store, what more is there to say?
I promised myself that if I ever had the opportunity to post about my experience, I would. And since I joined Angie's List and saw these nice reviews, I felt I needed to provide a different point of view based on my experience.
If you choose to go to this store, I hope your experience is better than mine.

I really like that they let the dogs roam around. My dogs always look great and they do exactly what I ask.

It went great. When I dropped off my dog, I was greeted by a large boxer standing with his paws behind the counter. The groomers allow the dogs to walk around together behine and enclosed counter area rather than putting them in cages. The dogs all seem to get along nicely. They also let the dogs outside frequently throughout the day. When I picked up my dog, she was beautifully groomed, nice and short, just as I requested.

They do a really nice job at this place. It is VERY clean and does not smell. You get the feeling that they really like what they are doing and they love the dogs they care for. They do not hold them in cages if you ask them not to and they take the dogs out for walks to get a break once they have been cut. My dog absolutely hates to be groomed so I always feel bad about it but these folks are as nice as it gets and they really respect my pet. I tell them not to do things that hurt her - like trying to remove knots in her coat with a comb instead of cutting them out - and I know my dog is getting the best job of grooming I can get for her. They cut her coat just as I ask and they are very professional and pleasant.

They are wonderful, caring people. They are very good to the dogs. The dogs are not caged.

I can usually get an appointment within a few days of my call. I drop my dog off in the morning, and pick her up after getting a call a few hours later saying that she is done. The employees are friendly with people and really seem to love dogs. Most of the dogs are kept together in a large group, which works well if your dog gets along well with others. My dog always comes home smelling wonderful and looking gorgeous. Lately she has been a bit hesitant to go in with the other dogs, perhaps because she is 11 years old and a little less tolerant, so I may look into a groomer who works from home and wouldn't have so many other dogs at the same time. Other than that issue, Smelly Dog has been great!
