Chesterfield Lawns & Landscapes

We have been trying for several years to eliminate weeds in our lawn. I gave three other lawn services three years (each company) to fix our lawn. None of them were successful. Chesterfield Lawns and Landscaping got rid of our weeds within a year!!! We are so happy with our lawn and with their customer service.

In today’s world it’s hard to find companies that you can trust. I despise the anxiety that inevitably comes with needing to contract work out. First do they answer their phone, will they call you back if you left a message. Then, were they knowledgeable, receptive and patience as you talk about the work you need done, did they take their time and ask the right questions to make certain that they understand the job and you understood how they would perform the work. One other thing, the follow-up was great, if I had a question they would get back to me in a timely fashion. Well I’m happy to report that they “check” all the boxes. I was most impressed with Dusten, extremely experienced and knowledgeable who came out to estimate the job. You knew immediately, he was the real deal and had your best interest at heart. He offered ideas and options and extra touches to be included that were above and beyond what you typically would get. The crew delivered what was promised in a timely manner and I couldn’t be happier with my decision to us this company. As someone who had a business, I appreciate knowing there are companies still around like Chesterfield Lawns & Landscapes.

Excellent work. They solved the problem using several methods around the yard. Grading, drains, berm and swell. It all works as designed! Also use for lawn treatments.

This company is professional and responsive. Most importantly, the answer the phone and send people out to quote your services during a time when I can't even get return phone calls from other providers. They are not the cheapest or the most expensive, but they are certainly the most professional and reliable. Weeds? Gone. Nut grass? Gone. Leaves? Gone. Moles? Gone. Also, they use electronic contracts and invoicing and take online payments.

We have used this company for the last few years.  Unfortunately, we believe the service and responsiveness of the company has gotten progressively worse over time. Even though we have told them repeatedly not to cut our grass when it is wet, they will show up when it is raining or immediately after a rain.  Trimming is hit and miss.  Billing issues are another problem and were the last straw. Earlier this summer I had to call because we were charged for a week in which service wasn't provided because of the weather.  I recently received another invoice with a mistake.  The company missed our regular date for service even though the weather was perfect.  We thought maybe they had stopped for the season.  I then received our invoice and it had a charge for a cutting that week, but on an irregular service date (Sunday - our day is Friday).  I sent the company an email with the correction and they responded that they had made a mistake - instead they cut the grass on Saturday!  I again responded that they in fact had never cut the grass - I should know!  Then the owner called me at work and told me they made another mistake - they had really cut the grass on Monday and I probably hadn't noticed because of the leaves on my yard. Really? This is my first review on Angie's List but felt users should know about our experience.

They are on time and professional. I have found them to be very accommodating when a problem with my yard arises.

I am pleased with the service.  I got a bid from them because one of my neighbors was using them and I saw the sign.  They were prompt about providing the service so I went with them.

We have become satisfied with the weekly mowing services. We now have the same crew that comes each week and they know what were are looking for and do a great job.

The fertilizer treatments were never done and after two months we cancelled the treatments.

We scheduled a time for a crew to come out and trim the tree and were very disappointed. They selectively pruned limbs from a 3 trees, but did not "raise the canopy" as John had described in his quote. I called back several times and finally caught the owner in the office and expressed my dissatisfaction. He said that he would come back out and personally take care of it. Three weeks later, he did come to the house with another crew, but again what he was recommending to do changed and so did the price. 

We also had his company aerate, seed and fertilize the lawn. While they did perform this service, they left the dirt plugs all over the lawn, sidewalk and driveway. The fertilizer had to be done separately (because it is performed by a seperate crew) and do date (3 days later) I still don't know when/if that will happen.

My frustration with Chesterfield Lawn is really more around poor communication. No one is able to schedule or tell me anything that is going on. They all refer me to John. I have left multiple messages and never received a return phone call from him. I have figured out that if I can catch him in the office before 8 am he will usually answer the phone. I read this concern in another Angie's list comment and underestimated how important it is to get a hold of the owner and deal directly with him. I do not recommend this provider.

I spent $650 for the job. It could have been cheaper. The retaining wall was very nicely done; it was great. I like their promptness. The owner is very cordial and easy to talk to. He is very good about taking care of any problems or anything going wrong. He does a great job. He is very professional. He comes out and talks with me personally if there is a problem that he needs to solve. He is very available and very good about returning my calls. I will use his services again in the future.

They have mowed my lawn once a week all summer. They are reliable and do an excellent job including trimming the grass along the walkway. They even go above and beyond and trim back my ivy along the walkway. Their price is very fair (I only have a front lawn).

Overall they have done fair. I have had to write them a letter asking that they pick up sticks in the lawn instead of moving them around and leaving them. Also, I asked them to not use their 'weed-eater' to trim the grass around our wooden swing set because they were cutting into the wood. I asked them to use hand clippers or if they couldn't do that, to leave it and I'd do it. I was not called after sending my letter and the guys did the same exact thing as before. They weed whacked my swing set and my wife had to go out and tell them to just not cut around the swing set at all. I will probably not use them next year.

Great. We wanted to go with a new lawn service since the one we had cut the grass too short and did not respond to calls about this problem. When Chesterfield gave us the estimate he told me that they cut the grass no shorter than 3". What a difference-our lawn in beautiful and not all torn up like it was last year. Edging and cleanup are excellent too.

They complete my services on a weekly basis. This is my second season with them. They arrive on a set day every week as weather permits. They send out the same crew every time. Other services offered are tree trimming, tending to flower beds and landscape design and plantings. The cost is based on a weekly charge.

While they have only been working on our lawn for a short period, they have been very easy to work with and the work product is great. Price is also very reasonable. Highly recommended.

John was very quick to return calls, prepared estimates in short order, and completed work when he said he would. Very pleased with these initial steps.

John responded quickly to my request for a quote. He answered all my questions well. He scheduled the work to fit my concerns and time table. The results were well within expectations.

DENINGER IS VERY PUNCTUAL AND PROVIDE PROMPT SERVICE. THE CREWS ARE VERY COURTEOUS. THEY DO A FABULOUS JOB AND CLEAN UP VERY NICELY. THEY USE GOOD EQUIPMENT AND QUICKLY ADDRESS ANY PROBLEMS.

Family owned business, very reliable, great service, and overall nice job. They have taken care of our lawn for several years until our son was old enough to start mowing.
