It took a few attempts to get Alan to come check out the job site to give a bid, but once he was there, i was glad I was persistent in calling 3 times to get him to come out.
Alan made me feel comfortable that he knew what he was doing, he checked everything and answered all my questions. I am/was in the middle of rehabbing the gardens around the patios, and needed to stop the work to get the patios lifted. Alan was sympathetic to the fact that I had a crew waiting to finish work until the patios were lifted, and was quick to respond and get his team out quickly to level the patios for us.
The crew that came out was equally as impressive, the two men were polite, courteous and knowledgeable. They explained everything they were about to do, answered my many questions and concerns with a smile? they were very reassuring and I felt confident they would do a great job and they did.
After they finished filling and leveling the patios, they explained what they had done and what would happen with the drying and the patches.. again very knowledgeable.
I had asked them to be careful of a planting area and they were very careful and showed concern for my plants and belongings. After they were done, the clean up was meticulous! I was very impressed!!
I will be hiring them again to level steps in the front of the house.
I was very satisfied with the service and work that A1 provided. Alan was quick to respond to my request for a quote and came out and quoted the job. He listened to my requirements and made several additional points/recommendations to which I agreed. They came out several days later and completed the work to my satisfaction. They did the job quickly and cleaned up the area after they were done. I would use A1's services again and recommend them to anyone who asks.
I cannot comment on pricing as the work was not so costly that I required multiple quotes before making a decision.
Three of the four slabs were sinking. It was a difficult situation because walls were built on top of three of the room's four sides -- so project was risky, and I'm convinced less experienced company would increase the risk of structural damage. A-1 went through approximately 1.5 truckloads of material yet couldn't get the edges to level as much as expected. While this was a disappointment, I don't fault A-1. It was simply a tricky project. The contractor offered a $700 discount off the bill, which I took.
I believe they did all they could under the circumstances, and I am pleased with the work they did and the final bill we negotiated. I would definitely recommend A-1 to my neighbors.
If any of what the company responded were true, that would be a sufficient explanation. However, none of the conversations documented below actually took place.
"We were contracted to lift the front porch slab. Our Operations manager who completed the work alerted the homeowner that the slab had come up to a level that he thought was as far as he should push it. There was still a minor gap in the post from the overhang on one end of the porch. The issue was relayed to the homeowner explaining that he felt it was as far as it would safely lift. After hearing his thoughts, the homeowner then requested that he try and lift it further to close the last little gap. This is when the slab cracked in the center. This crack did not undermine the porch structure or stability and can be caulked and sealed similar to any normal crack in concrete slabs. Unfortunately, when lifting and adjusting concrete slabs there is always some inherent risk. While cracks are very rare, they do happen and this fact is documented on all of our literature as well as our bid sheets. I have reached out to the homeowner numerous times and have not heard back. I am always happy to discuss resolutions that are amicable for both parties."
I would recommend them again.
