After getting nine separate bids on the job, Ken provided both the lowest and most comprehensive. The detailing on the job is remarkable with each joint, seam, and union fitting to perfection. Being in the construction business myself, I understand the reluctance to accept a low bid; however the Thebeau Siding and Window Company is a definite exception to that concern. Without reservation I would recommend this company to anyone who is interested in home improvement. Ken Thebeau is a sterling example of professionalism, craftsmanship, and value.
The siding turned out well. A couple of things I would have done differently if they would have asked my opinion first. The house was not level all the way around so they had to adjust the siding and install it slightly off level on one short wall to get it to line up with the adjoining wall. They also installed the first piece of siding on each side of the garage door on a slant because of the asphalt paving that was up against the wall. They said that was the proper way of doing it. To our eye we are used to everything being plum and level. After seeing it a few times it looks okay.
After installing the new replacement door they tried adjusting the slider to get the moving door plum with the frame. This turned out not to be possible because the door was out of plum by three fourths of an inch. The floor of the house had settled down this much over the years. I then told Ken I would not settle for the door to be installed any way except plum and level. The old door leaked and may have been due to the fact that it also had been installed out of level by a previous contractor. Ken began making excuses as to why this couldn't be done saying, and quot;shimming the bottom of the door wouldn't give the frame enough support under foot.and quot; So I suggested making a shim the four feet or so that was necessary going from the required thickness on the low end to nothing on the high end. They came back the next day with the shim. They then removed the door again, installed the shim they had made and reinstalled the door. The whole process took about an hour and made for a quality finished door. After the quality of work I had seen them do in the past I couldn't believe they would even attempt to install a door that much out of level.
In the process of taking the old siding off they broke some of the weeping hole covers on the existing windows. This was pointed out by myself to Ken. He said that replacements might still be available. My son called the supply house and was told they did have some. When the work was done and final check given to Ken he did not have the replacement covers with him. When my son questioned him about them he said to give him about two weeks. We'll see what happens in two weeks.
